Just got off a long call with a contact of mine and this is probably hitting news websites next week. it would probably be next 48 hours but with all the shit going on with Polygon and Gamespot the journalists are distracted right now.
TL:DR
The reception to the Alpha has been a disaster
On Average 7 out of every 10 people that tried the Alpha dropped it after a single game
Influencers with communication lines to Bungie are all saying the same thing: "Delay it"
With Borderlands 4 and Ark Raiders getting such positive buzz and Marathon being compared to Anthem and Concord its very clear the current product will sink on release and Bungie needs a win.
The game is being pushed back to Summer next year
A PVE mode with bots and story cutscenes are being hurried through, don't expect Halo or Destiny, expect Brink but its all bots
Proximity chat is in, Item values is out
Currently up in the air now if heros will have abilities reworked or have them locked to certain weapon types. By the end of the alpha 90% of players were using void and a shotgun which broke the game entirely.
This was decided in the first 24 hours of the alpha as twitch views and player activity plummeted after people getting minutes of eyes on the unedited gameplay. They are just spitballing how to announce this and save face.
This was originally intended to replace Destiny as their "core pillar" years back when Tarkov got big, a lot more money has gone into Marathon than Destiny over the last 4 years and this cannot afford to fail.
