I switched to Windows 11 and I'm fine with it. You can use the same debloat scripts (like winutil) that you could on Windows 10 to make it behave properly. In the end of the day it's just another Windows version. Trash for sure, but it works.

It's really hard to disable updates because checkmark on system options do nothing. Disabling via registy can work but once a while it stealth update either way.

I have been using Linux Mint for a few years and I have had very few hardware compatibility issues. The only one I can think of was an 8bitdo controller which didn't work out of the box but it was an easy fix. Another 8bitdo controller worked fine with no issues.

Finally switched this year after standard Windows bullshit with corrupting my bootloader, crashing graphics drivers, etc., and I'm honestly shocked how good Proton and Wine work nowadays. Hell, with KDE, HDR support is a thing, and PCVR relied on SteamVR anyway so not much difference there.

Given that you are on Win7 I'm not sure if you play modern games, but titles like Elden Ring and MHWilds do use e-cores to prevent small stuttering on Win11, I have personally tested this.

One thing I will say though is that on Win11 (haven't tested on Win7) you must disable core parking entirely, if you go to Resource Monitor and go to the CPU tab and scroll down the list, it shouldn't say (Parked) anywhere, this will cause slowdowns, maybe that also happens in Win7 and it's the reason you have to use process lasso? Disabling Core parking is permanent, or until you manually adjust it again with the tool, i have gone from 23H2 to 24H2 and my changes weren't changed back.

You also need to completely disable Virtualization-Based Security. You can check its status by running msinfo32 and scrolling to the bottom. Even if defender is disabled, VBS is part of it and will still actively scan every process on the system. You must turn this off as well. The downside of leaving it enabled is that games with anti-cheat and anti-tamper protections. especially those that already stutter due to poor coding, will experience additional slowdowns from the extra scanning.

Once you fix these two issues you should see much better performance on Win11 compared to previous versions, especially if you're using more modern hardware.

I use process lasso as some games do indeed have microstuttering. I put all my background programs onto the eCores, including OBS.
I haven't used W10 or W11 in over a year but I have a script to remove defender entirely.

I just fresh installed 10 LTSC IOT on my PC last night and it was insanely easy, entire process only took about 2 hours and I'm a complete retard with computers. Just unplug the hard drive/SSD that has your porn and vidya so nothing gets wiped, and make sure you keep your realtek drivers on a seperate USB stick or SD card so you'll be able to connect to the internet. Like, you'd have to be stupid not to use LTSC, my computer runs butter smooth without the bloatware shit, and that's even without me doing a custom install.

Unless you have some super niche hardware and software, Linux already has drivers and shit for ALL the stuff you could possibly need. And looking up any extra firmware stuff is just as easy as running the "system update + system upgrade" command via console OR visual app.

I recently replaced the battery to sell this as I'm considering the m4 max. It plays all the games I care about. If I want more, I just play on my switch. My laptop is a work machine. I sometimes watch shows in bed with it. Going from Windows 7 to Mac at first kind of sucked. I still miss Windows 7 to this day. I tried 8 10 and 11.
