Even if some cards from this set turn out to be good enough to be powerhouses in MTG formats, they won't be in FF decks, they'll be in decks with a mix of a bunch of cards from all of MTG.

If you just want to play MTG: FF, then draft and sealed are your choices. Or alternatively you go the Memeander route, though even then you'll probably have to add some non-FF cards.

The Beta Box has been out for a while now. It's pretty solid and I've had a few fun games with it, though it only has 3 of the 4 colors at the moment so there's probably a decent amount of other things to learn that could improve or worsen the game.

The way packs work in MTG are a mess nowadays, But on average, when you open a MTG pack, you're gonna get 9 commons, 3 uncommons and 1 rare card. In theory, you could get something silly like only 6 commons, 3 uncommons, a rare and then 3 mythic rares.

So even if there's more unique uncommon cards around, you're still gonna see a shitload more of the commons in the packs.

They were so close to making this good, but fumbled right at the end.

Putting aside the issue of vulnerability issue, AV's whole thing is that he has all the jobs. He should interact with all of the "Job Select" artifact mechanics by absorbing all of the ones you control or in your graveyard. The wording would have be a little weird, because they tied these mechanics solely to Artifacts, but ideally you would just grab the Type and the benefit (Dragoon's flying while it's your turn), without gaining +x/x or having to equip it. Just have one or two jobs/job select artifacts with very good protection and AV becomes as hard to take down as he should be. Is there a Rune Knight with Hexproof? Probably not.

You could have had Kain's Jump be something like "Job Mastery - Dragoon", with it being a pseudo-keyword which only real purpose is to have consistency across (some of) the other Dragoons and being unique from other jobs. Then Absolute Virtue (or FFXI Maat or FFV Bartz or FFIII Onion Knight, etc) can reference the total number of unique "Jobs" in play or easily just take the unique effect (Jump = flying on your turn, etc). So you would have the generic Job characters (Job select artifacts/tokens), iconic Job characters (Kain, Cecil, Vivi, etc), and then you would have Freelancers who could either switch more easily between jobs or combine jobs or unlock unique effects by collecting enough of them. The FFIII/FFV/FFXI deck themes would be based around that compared to counters/equipment/etc.

What you don't see anymore is general flavor not tied to whatever story is going on. That's what was great about Dominaria is that you could pretty much have any kind of card with any individual flavor and just say it's from there at some point in its history and even when there was a story it was much more interesting as just regular people going on adventures and stuff without all the dumb planeswalker drama shit.

There's a simple answer to that. Collector's boosters are a scam, foil a shit. Figure out specifically which collector version arts you really can't live without and just buy those individually. If those cards happen to be the power cards that end up being worth more than the box, well, sucks to be you, but odds are what you wanted will be relatively cheap.

NTA, but to anybody not familiar with MTG foils, the shit will curl the MOMENT it comes out of a pack, and even if you double-sleeve them, they'll warp because WotC are insanely cheap, and their foiling process has degraded over the years.
Unless you have a (de)humidifier to help keep your storage room climate controlled, there's a very high fucking chance your foils will turn into pringles, and you're going to need to figure out if you need more humidity, or less depending on the direction they curl.

I started with a printed deck, a different friend bought me most of the cards for it since it was like $2 he needed to spend to get free shipping.
After playing that one for about a month I printed a new deck and played it recently for the first time. The cost of the deck is probably around $200 in cards if you were buying good conditioned.
I won with it, and he instantly said that wasn't going to work.
Also said if I paid for all of the cards he would be perfectly fine with me playing the deck, but then would invest and buy shit to counter the deck.

So basically a pay to win arms race buying garbage from trannies of the coast.

I suggested I print cards that were below a certain price threshold like a whole deck under $100, but he wouldn't go with that either.

Basically anything I print capable of winning he doesn't want to play against, he wants to go against the $2 deck.
