What was your reaction when you found out back in 2005/2006 that Nintendo wouldn't be releasing an actual next-gen console, but would be releasing an underpowered shitbox child's toy with forced waggle gimmicks instead?
For those who were there at the time
I was alive when the Wii was released, and I remember the Wii was pretty hype actually and everybody I knew wanted one, and it was trying to be like a "healthy" console where you get to get exercise and play sports and move in real life while playing games, that's what they were going for and that's why Wii Fit is a thing too lol.
and it was trying to be like a "healthy" console where you get to get exercise and play sports and move in real life while playing games
So not an actual game console. It was more like an Apple product. Gay lifestyle tech for normoids.
It was hype and lived up to it. Still the best party and couch coop console ever, at a time when the others were totally dropping this ball and going online multiplayer. Lots of great first parties and hidden gems like Red Steel 2 in a pile of shovelware.'
Wii sports was the game that made it a success, and Nintendo was just barely able to be convinced to bundle it with consoles in the US. In an alternate universe where they weren't convinced and were as jewy as they're being with Switch 2, I doubt the Wii would have exploded nearly as much as it did.
They're shooting themselves in the foot by not making a new multiplayer game to bundle with each system.
Wii U should have been bundled with Nintendoland (excellent game).
Switch 1 should have been bundled with 12 Switch (even though it's a shit game, it would have at least introduced the console gimmicks).
If I was John Nintendo, I'd make a free bundled multiplayer game that shows off the mouse mode and other shit of the Switch 2. Makes players happy and introduces them to gimmicks so you can sell them games expanding on them.
I was hyped and I played some great games.
I kinda wish the pointer control scheme stuck around I played alot of The Conduit and Goldeneye Remake online just because it was fun to aim and shoot.
I remember going to a party in high school and the only group of niggers invited ended up stealing the hosts newly bought Wii.
Every kid wanted one and they were sold out at stores.
Twilight Princess looked fucking awesome and it was awesome. I never beat ocarina of time because I used to shit my pants at redead screams. Playing with the Wii mote I swung and chopped those mother fuckers up while my heart felt like it was gonna bounce off my chest.
Only dropped the Wii because I felt like I was missing out on voice chat online games so I got an Xbox.
Before Nintendo announced the Revolution, I was honestly going to just quit video games since the PS3 and 360 didn't appeal to me despite the incredible graphics jump in both. If Nintendo just made Gamecube 2 I would have stopped playing games a long time ago (or would have just moved to PC much earlier than I did). The Wii was the console that kept me into console gaming and looking forward to what the industry would do moving forward. Wii U I was disappointed by mainly because of all of the wasted potential it had for new gameplay experiences and potential new genres of games (but that's more on the fault of the developers and the fact Nintendo didn't market it well). I got the Switch even though I wished they brought back asynchronous gameplay, but the idea of a "hybrid" console was a cool idea, so I bought into it. Now I'm in the same boat I was in back then and I've already made up my mind that I'm not getting a new console, so I'll be focusing on just PC for the forseeable future unless someone here REALLY wants a Switch 2 as a gift.
All that to say, I was excited that something interesting was coming out. I'd been playing games since the NES and reached the point where I was getting both bored and worried since "next gen" looked like great graphics, but still playing games the same way we always had been for the most part (outside of the online which was terrible on Wii...friend codes were terrible). Wii was the opposite in that it didn't have great graphics by comparison, but it offered a new, unique way to play and experience video games and ran with it as its identity. Didn't work all of the time obviously, but I still loved it.
A "new, unique way to play" doesn't mean anything if the "new way" is just garbage.
Standing in your living room waggling a plastic dildo around like a retard is NOT playing video games.
It was a next gen console. You retards just fell for the gimmick that next gen = more power. Next gen means new generation and the Wii destroyed the competition without AAA third party shovelware.
I'm sorry for your pain.
It was a next gen console. You retards just fell for the gimmick that next gen = more power.
Literally never before (or since) was it accepted that a next-gen console would be so underpowered.
Imagine if Nintendo in 1996 decided to release a console with identical specs to the SNES, except with motion controls, and marketed it as a "new console". Everybody would've laughed them out of the room.
the only time i was upset was when they fucking gave us that shitty excuse of a port called Sonic Unleashed
I didn't really care. Playing Xbox/GameCube/PS2 all I could think was graphics had peaked, and I didn't give a shit if games looked any better than they already did. I still feel that way honestly, but I can appreciate muh grafixxx at least. Vidya back then looked realer than real, though, when you were living in that console gen.
Ultimately I didn't care much for the Wii, though. Used it mostly to play GameCube and Wii Sports back in the day with a few exceptions like No More Heroes and Elebits. I find it the hardest of the post-NES console gens to go back to just because the wiimote is fucking annoying.
You sir should get hired by Nintendo. Your ideas are not completely stupid and make sense.
And that is why Nintendo constantly dropped the ball for the cube and Wii U. Wii had a gimmick that at least got you interested in how well it worked but the other consoles had more features that made them worth buying. If it weren't for Nintendo having profitable and well known franchises like Mario and Zelda they could have gone bankrupt.
The wii still has a bunch of exclusives that never went anywhere else to this day. Red steel, boomblox, dead space extraction are just some of the games i remember off the top of my head. If the switch 2's motion controls are just as good as the wii motion plus then nintendo should get to start funding revivals of those games and more. They got the money from switch sales so they need to fucking use it.
"Thank you for making the console cheap! $250!! DANG!"
"Thank you for giving me a new controller! I bet this will do some cool gimmick stuff!"
"Thank you for giving me inherent Internet online access...FOR FREE!"
"Thank you for giving me an HD cable port to connect to my NEW HD television!"
"Thank you for letting it play my Gamecube discs!"
"Thank you for giving me access to NES, SNES, N64, Gameboy, Gameboy COLOR... ALL KINDS of Nintendo games, all on a single console! It gives me the chance to purchase some titles I missed!
"THANK YOU! This console is FANTASTIC!!!!!"
Was my reaction.
I was 19 in 2006.
Twilight Princess looked fucking awesome and it was awesome.
It was literally a GameCube game, dude.
Like yeah it was an amazing game but it should've just been a 2005 GameCube release like it was originally intended.
Imagine how immense a true next-gen, HD, proper Zelda game would've hit if it released in 2007 or 2008. That would've been a Breath of the Wild tier phenomenon if they got it right. But instead Nintendo decided to take a decade-long detour into waggleslop.
Wii didn't have GB/GBC virtual console games
It was hype at announcement. In practice I didn't like waggles and nothing released on it particularly appealed to me, so it mostly got used for GameCube+VC to save me the trouble of hooking up older consoles.
You may be right; it was 20 years ago, so my memory might be flawed about its specs.
But, I also modded it.
Which DID allow it. So, that was nice.
It was a bit of a disappointment because microsoft and sony were both sexing up their consoles with the sleek spider-man font PS3 and the Xbox 360 degrees. Original screens I saw of it had it with a black finish and it was called the "Nintendo Revolution". I thought calling it the "Wii" must have been kind of a joke because that's englsh slang for penis in my country. are you going to go play with your wee in your bedroom lol
It was a smart decision in the long run to go after the casual audience but as a hardcore I felt Nintendo had finally fully alienated me and they weren't going to be making anything mature in the vein of twilight princess or metroid prime ever again.
PSX was weak as fuck compared to N64.
PS2 was weak as fuck compared to GameCube and Xbox.
Also the Wii could do better graphics and processing that the GC. But again, you retards didn't play any games. There's no way the GC could pull off something like Mario Galaxy.
It was hype at announcement.
I don't really understand how it could be hyped.
Weren't people disappointed that Nintendo were just trying to re-sell them GameCube hardware repackaged as a "new console"?
PSX was weak as fuck compared to N64.
PS2 was weak as fuck compared to GameCube and Xbox.
That's not even on the same scale.
PSX had certain advantages over N64 (eg. way larger disc space), and could easily run ports of N64 games if devs put effort into them.
PS2 ran 6th gen multiplats just with worse graphics than Xbox/GCN.
Wii literally could not run 7th gen games unless devs put in huge effort to remake it as a 6th gen tier game (like the CoD ports or Sonic Unleashed).
The main disappointment was no HD output. HD was a tangible, desirable feature at the time and that feeling of missed opportunity never went away even while having fun with it. But overall it was very positive sentiment. The motion controls were fun, it was INSANELY social, and there was a fantastic variety of games. Wii Sports is the best selling game of all time for a reason.
Personally, I was unimpressed and hated the Wii (same with the Switch). But tendies were already a thing back then, so there was still plenty of general hype about what NIntendo might do with motion controls.
What was your reaction when you found out back in 2005/2006 that Nintendo wouldn't be releasing an actual next-gen console, but would be releasing an underpowered shitbox child's toy with forced waggle gimmicks instead?
"Meh, I don't care about it then".
Funny enough I was betting all onto PS3, due PS2's momentum, and... all of that went away the moment I tried Wii shortly after release seeing 20 people playing Wario ware with just one (UNO) Wii mote and how well it worked. Also, excite truck.
In the end I only got a 360 and a Wii, and love them.
I was hyped but didn't give a fuck because I was getting TP on gamecube
didn't even enter my mind
already
You phrase it like like it was a more recent group, for the time. Not "tendies already existed" or "tendies had long grown in number" or "tendies had already been happy with their console purchases for more than 20+ years," you worded it like "tendies just became a thing in 2006, lol!"
Fucking Hell. The whole "console war" isn't some "new" thing for you kiddos. It was a thing even what arcades were PISSED it took games to people's homes.
I'm 40, it's literally what made me switch from a lifetime of nintendo to sony. After growing up on NES, SNES, N64 and gameboy, I haven't touched a nintendo game or console in 20 years because of that thing.
got my pc and consoles died anyways. In hinsight pretty smart nintendo move after the gamecube fail
I think this was one of the cope from people dissing the Wii because it wasn't about traditional controls and a little movement exposed them as fat people that can only move their thumbs at best
A "new, unique way to play" doesn't mean anything if the "new way" is just garbage.
Good thing the good games used them properly and shovelware alpha stood in the trash were they belong
Basado and enlightenedpilled
I like mario kart and I like swinging my wiimote sword in zelda and wii sports resort :)
the Wii because it wasn't about traditional controls and a little movement exposed them as fat people that can only move their thumbs at best
Why is that an insult?
Video games ARE about moving your thumbs. You sit comfortably with a controller and move and press your thumbs/fingers to execute commands. That is how things have literally always been. Even Nintendo accepts this now.
I should not have to jump and dance around in my living room to play a video game. I am here to play games, not partake in an aerobics class.
I don't really understand how it could be hyped.
See this system? It next gen
Why? Because this system is taking up a huge step forward in how you can interact with a videogame! You're going beyond simple buttons now
It was hype as fuck going from futuristic attempts that failed due tech limitations to having something that finally was making it a reality and worked
Playing Wii Sports together with my family was fun.
But all that excitement was dampened due to the fact that all the games shown off had Dreamcast-tier graphics.
Some people like light gun games, DDR, and motion controls. Punching with your arms is more interesting than pressing X. Buttons work for many types of games, but you completely miss out if that’s all you have. It’s like saying “well fuck StarCraft because moving my wrist is too much work, I’m here to push buttons”
But tendies were already a thing back then
Insane the levels of cope snoys have in this day and age. Wii was the inception for the creation of your tendie memes, it was literally a full blown "revival" of Nintendo to the masses
Why is that an insult?
No idea; there's nothing wrong with control schemes that introduce new ways. But hey, gen 7 with Wii triggered a lot of casuals that called themselves "gamers" back then
I was a kid at the time so I thought the motion control thing was pretty cool. I enjoyed it for what it was. Looking back on it, it was just a silly gimmick, but I had fun with it and made good memories.
the specs are low compared to sony and ms, its not the same class of product. but the controls really do work, i played resident evil 4 on it and the wiimote aiming is superb.
it was literally a full blown "revival" of Nintendo to the masses
It was more like Nintendo abandoning their core fans to pander to the "modern audience" instead.
The Wii was a giant middle-finger to everybody who was loyal to Nintendo during the 64 and GameCube days.
Video games ARE about moving your thumbs. You sit comfortably with a controller and move and press your thumbs/fingers to execute commands
Arcades and handhelds, retard. You're advocating for sedentarism
he think a little waggle constitutes as "excersice"
lol lmao
Not at all; graphics don't make a game. You don't play graphics, you play games. And Wii had a solid lineup at release
Some people like light gun games, DDR, and motion controls. Punching with your arms is more interesting than pressing X
Hence why Punch out Wii was 10/10. Debatably the best game of the whole 7th generation.
Practically the 1st thing I think of when asked my opinion on something Wii-related, is,
I friggin' LOVE its music on its menus and its Wii Shop Channel
youtube.com
The Wii was a terrific system and it had access to a helluva lot. Including the Internet. Which was brilliant, at the time.
Sorry dude breath of the wild sucks. Hitting enemies swords breaking constantly is not Zelda.
The switch 2 Zelda re release is going to have navigation since the world is empty and pointless
It was more like Nintendo abandoning their core fans to pander to the "modern audience" instead.
There was never such thing; that was people with their own deluded expectations not being indulged. Videogames are for Everyone and Nintendo with Wii comitted with it 200%, and that wasn't strange since they always were around the E rating.
The Wii was a giant middle-finger to everybody who was loyal to Nintendo during the 64 and GameCube days.
I see no difference in the type of games tbqh. The middle finger was to the graphics race.
Not at all; graphics don't make a game. You don't play graphics, you play games. And Wii had a solid lineup at release
No matter how much you try to justify it, it was utterly pathetic for Nintendo to release a console with 2000-tier specs in 2006. And with no HD output either.
There is literally zero excuse for it other than penny-pinching bullshit. Even if they were 100% commited to the waggle bullshit, why couldn't they at least give it 360-tier specs to make it a worthwhile product?
Everyone was pissed and everyone thought it would flop. It wasn't until E3 2006 when everyone did a 180 and loved it. E3 2006 turned Wii from a laughing stop, to becoming one of the most hyped console launches of all time.
PSX and PS2 could only run those games with compromise so they're good
Wii could only run those games with compromise so they're le bad
Heck u
I was cautiously pessimistic. I expected problems with precision which happened, and other weird problems with the controler which didn't happen.
I hope everyone at that party and all the friends learned a very important lesson. If not, they deserve their future.
I was alive when the wii was released
a-anon... a-are you a g-g-g-g-g-g-ghost???????
Not true everyone made fun of it at first. Some of you were clearly kids at the time of the Wii.
Man.
Even with just 40 posts, more than half the people cite their 2006 opinion of the Wii as "bullshit."
The Internet REALLY IS just a junkyard for angry children, now. People won't even enter websites, to forums, to threads and talk about things they like anymore.
No wonder suicide rates are so high, these days.
I see no difference in the type of games tbqh.
GameCube games were made for actual gamers above the age of 16. Yes even Mario, look at Sunshine which was the hardest 3D Mario game ever. Plus games aimed at the 18+ audience like Metroid Prime and Eternal Darkness.
Wii games were dumbed down and made into babyshit so 5 year olds and grandmas could understand them.
Everyone and their mother thought it was cool, Wii Sports was a great demo
No matter how much you try to justify it, it was utterly pathetic for Nintendo to release a console with 2000-tier specs in 2006. And with no HD output either.
That's you coping. A (You) problem settled decades ago with them winning and putting the competition to shame
why couldn't they at least give it 360-tier specs to make it a worthwhile product?
Cost development and potential incompatibility translating fairly unknown tech advancement into hardware leading to design failure (something that happened to 360)
Everyone saying it was hyped from day 1
It's clear most of this thread was underaged at the time because it was heavily criticized until they knocked it out the park at E3 2006.
Suicide rates are high because of Zionist psyops.
People who dislike the Wii are just genuine retards. They are the "gamer" stereotype that was backed by Doritos and Mountain Dew and parasites like Goef Keighley. Where every E3 from Microsoft and Sony was nothing but pre rendered cinematics or cutscenes. Never any gameplay. Always about how EPIC and NEXT GEN their new shovelware would be.
underpowered shitbox child's toy with forced waggle gimmicks
At the time it was all in the concept. Graphics weren't getting the leaps but seeing Zelda where you swung your sword with Link and light gun arcade games at home was cool.
The negativity was in the year or two post release as the novelty died down and other consoles focusing on visuals or technical flexes they graphics became the big thing.
A (You) problem settled decades ago with them winning and putting the competition to shame
Wii hardware + software sales completely dried up circa 2010-2012.
Nintendo's success with the "blue ocean strategy" was a mirage. It faded away once the casuals, kiddies and grandmas moved onto mobile games in the 2010s.
And the Wii U, which followed the exact same strategy as the Wii (extremely underpowered hardware propped up by gimmicks, and a childish software library) was the greatest failure ever in Nintendo's history.
Nintendo did not recover until the Switch era when they finally started making products that appealed to actual gamers again.
why couldn't they
They could!
They chose not to.
again, WHY!?!?
Because the system cost $249.99.
It was CHEAP. And people LOVE THAT.
It had instant Internet access, too. Cool~
GameCube games were made for actual gamers above the age of 16
Colorful games all around
Catalog dominated by E and T ratings
muh actual gamers
Mario Sunshine was exacty what they'd call childish and eternal darkness sucked like any silicon knights game. GC only lacked some weeb games
This. Everyone hated the name. Everyone hated the controller. Everyone thought it was the end for Nintendo.
And with no HD output either.
It did 480p
That was literally considered high definition at the time where everything was 240p/480i
It's renamed to Enhanced Definition because the massive corporation pushing HD also has a video game console
Said HD consoles wouldn't even fucking do 720p at 60fps
Wii hardware + software sales completely dried up circa 2010-2012.
Completely normal due a console life cycle (between 4-6 years)
And the Wii U, which followed the exact same strategy as the Wii (extremely underpowered hardware propped up by gimmicks, and a childish software library) was the greatest failure ever in Nintendo's history.
Because of poor marketing; it's been years and that was solved
Everyone thought it was the end for Nintendo.
And it nearly was.
If Nintendo continued pursuing the Wii-era strategy, they'd be a 3rd party developer right now.
Iwata nearly killed Nintendo with his retarded fixation on gimmicks and underpowered hardware.
well you have to understand that 2006 was 19 years ago so most of this thread is looking at the Wii era through kid lenses.
That was the way to go.
Microsoft started a chicken race with Sony that ended with both violently crashing because selling consoles at a loss was a turbo jewish move that did not pay off not to mention it standardized paid online.
Meanwhile in the PC landscape; the most popular pc games of today run on 10 year old hardware and those few with super computers have the privilege to run Unreal slop at silky smooth 40fps at 4k on their memewide monitors. Pushing graphics was a retarded thing to do especially because while Crysis was ahead of its time in 2007 but nothing came of it and its sequels decided to prioritize the gameplay instead of trying to push hardware only a few dorks owned at the time.
Marginal upgrades to console hardware also allowed developers to adjust instead of blowing everything on new equipment and hoping for the best and even then it is very well documented how badly Nintendo struggled when they made the move to HD with the Wii U.
If anything I would much rather see gimmicks if it isn't viable to do significant hardware upgrades, something I always wanted was to see GEN VII games with increased draw distance, the Dead Rising Demake came out and it only added more bloat and funny enough, LESS zombies on screen.
Can confirm to some extent... and we were proven wrong, the fucking controller worked great, it had support for regular controllers as well and the name was catchy as hell. With that, yes wii would like to play
I was hyped for the motion controls. Back then people tended to be happy for new things.
By the time the wiiU came out Nintendo barely made good games. So no one was a excited for Nintendo using modern hardware.
We were right because even games like botw and Mario Odyssey were mid and half baked.
I honestly didn’t care because Twilight Princess was coming out anyway. In retrospect, I still don’t care because Twilight Princess lived up to the hype even though the GameCube version was better than the Wii one. Actually I remember that gen more for being hell on PC, since all the PC ports were so trash. At the same time, we had Valve saving the day with L4D and TF2.
They just need to step back with game trailers. They explain so fucking much that you know mechanics and even secrets before the games out. No self discovery.
Damn you can't even falseflag right.
Microsoft started a chicken race with Sony
But Sony started the graphicfaggotry and price raisings with new consoles
it is very well documented how badly Nintendo struggled when they made the move to HD with the Wii U.
Source? They seemed to jump into HD just fine to me; good games and well performing right off the bat
Yep. Everyone and their mom hated changing the name from Revolution to Wii. The amount of jokes people had for this console was huge. But they had amazing marketing in 2006 and it changed the perception.
without AAA third party shovelware
The Wii was full of shovelware
My actual reaction was "holy shit, I get to swing the sword in the new Zelda game". I was in high school, I wasn't nearly as cynical back then.
Kids can't handle "discovery" anymore. They don't have the patience for that. They need to be given FULL exposition about their clickbait, and it better FINISHED in about 15 seconds or I'm pressing SKIP!!
PS3 niggas were mad, like mad as fuck. Not only their console was the last to release, was overpriced, all the trailers were CGI movies instead of real time gameplay but it had no games. Then this happened in 2008 and it killed them.
E3 2006 was probably the best console showcase of all time. It really caught on fire after that.
I was a kid at the time when the Wii came out and loved it. Though, I wish my parents had bought me an XBOX 360 instead.
youtube.com
Did anyone else use the Internet Channel?
Wii fad was short as well. Only lasted about 2 years. 06-08.
PS3 beat Wii to market by a week, but who's counting?
I liked it at first but after a while I was disappointed when I found out most of the games were shovelware or lackluster ports. With that said, its library is decent if count the backwards compatible games
People were THRILLED at the idea that "shooters are going to be FUCKING AWESOME" now.
Forget the NES gun, the Wii was going to play RESIDENT EVIL 4 like I had a REAL GUN IN MY HAND!!
(And RE4 was, indeed, awesome)
So no one was a excited for Nintendo using modern hardware.
This is my biggest gripe with Switch 2. Sure, the price is funny but fuck the people invested with gaming after gen 7's cancer settled in, but I didn't get a Switch so backcompat already is enough for me to jump in the new one but it's really dissapointing seeing Nintendo making a new console under the "graphic/hardware power up" logic that was so harmful to gaming in the big picture and killed xbox and PS in the process.
At least the Mario Kart game looks gold and there's a new Kirby air ride which is nice but dammit I want something new and different and creative in my consoles ffs and Switch 2 isn't very exciting as is.
snake was in brawl
but mgs4 still only came out on ps3 a month later
they didn’t really care.
Switch should not be considered some kind of record success. Remember that you’re not putting its numbers against the WiiU or Wii. You’re putting its numbers against WiiU+3DS (90M), or Wii+DS (255M). Nintendo gave up their handhelds for it.
I thought the Wii was cool for a week and then went back to my PC and 360 and never touched it again
Eh, I'd give it into 2009 with stuff like Motion+ and Wii Sports Resort keeping the ball rolling. The well was absolutely dry by 2011 though. That year had Skyward Sword and uhhhhhhhhhhh maybe some of the Operation Rainfall games?
I remember swinging the sword around in Twilight Princess like I was actually doing something meaningful in the game. The first time I did a finishing blow I kinda did it like Link so every time I did ir after I’d just look autistic because I thought it was working. I figured out it didn’t matter by the time I got that roll attack where you roll behind the enemy.
Anyway, the aiming with the bow and claw shot was still really cool.
Did anyone else use the Internet Channel?
You bet. Gave me the opportunity to sit on my couch and use the Internet.
I had a family PC, sure, but I didn't have a laptop in 2006. Well, not one that could connect to easily to the Internet... let alone my television!
And all I had to do was turn on my Wii and click the Internet Channel! I COULD BROWSE YOUTUBE ON MY COUCH!! HA!!!!!
god, the snake reveal in smash was fucking huge back then. it was wild
Play Zelda like you're using the sword yourself + shield attack via nunchuk
FPS pointing at the screen like using an actual gun
REUmbrella chronicles was so overlook imo. Stellar early years light gun game until S&P2 bringing the real madness
Yeah, RE4 on Wii ruled and it had a bunch of rail shooters beyond that. Wii kinda lived up to that part of its potential.
and it had a bunch of rail shooters beyond that
NOT NEARLY ENOUGH REEEEEEEEEEE
The channels were cool as fuck. I loved Everybody Votes, I had like a 70% accuracy rate when that shit finally sunset.
I can't believe you "gamers" missed out on Dead Rising Chop Till You Drop.
what was your parents reaction back in 2005/2006 when they found out they wouldn't be getting a normal son they could be proud of, but an autistic retard window licking faggot?
I was curious, so I went to a shopping mall to give it a try during an event. I didn't even touch it. I thought it was stupid as soon as I saw it.
I want Wii's blue LED shit back. Aesthetic as fuck.
Weren't people disappointed that >Nintendo were just trying to re-sell them GameCube hardware repackaged as a "new console"?
Just a very loud minority.
Go look at pre-release threads for the Switch, everyone was so sure it was gonna be DOA.
The same thing will happen with the Switch 2.
Switch and Switch 2 are actually worthwhile products unlike the Pii.
Probably something along the lines of "Wow, Twilight Princess looks so cool! I can't believe you actually get to swing Link's sword around with real movements!"
Cope of the century kek
Before it came out, Kimishima once said the Switch had the potential to reach Wii-like sales and everyone laughed at the idea kek.
The game was a movie with playable intermissions, but at least it wasnt mgs acid lmao
alpha generation kids lying about Wii release because they didnt experience it
Fuck you all, I would kill you all in your sleep if I could, I would rape your mom or your pet, whatever hurts you the most
PS3 was a pivot point in the companywars. Keep in mind most people weren't going idiort, and some were trying to figure out what combination to go with, rather than being purist fanboys.
Many of the fanboys had their main, and the wii being cheap and different helped there.
Which original Wii and GameCube games would be ideal for me?
I hate Mario Bros.
I hate The Legend of Zelda
I hate Metroid
I hate Animal Crossing
I hate Kirby
I hate Smash Bros.
I hate Pokemon
Franchises and games that no one associates with Nintendo
Games that look and play like PlayStation and Xbox games
Franchises that are more closely associated with PlayStation and Xbox
Literally nobody thought switch was gonna be a flop. It had all the weight of their console AND handheld business behind it. Despite the rough start 3DS was still a monster and it was promising to be the final step to having actual console games in your pocket. Low estimates were 100M from the outset. We knew 3DS sold 75M.
Back up and list some games you like. Maybe F Zero? Pikmin?
Some people werent' confident it would be technically feasable.
Sorry.
But no, I don't want any Nintendo franchise.
I want to play games that look and play like:
Gran Turismo
Halo (Metroid doesn't count and is out)
Call of Duty (on Wii)
Grand Thet Auto
Gears of Wars
God of War
And if I'm going to have GameCube and original Wii games, I want games that look and play like the more typical Xbox and Playstation games.
I remember my friends in highschool not caring about the hardware being relatively weaker than its competition. Everyone knew it was a lite type of console meant for party games or a console that hosted video games that your whole family could play. Even today, people still remember Wii Sports like Tennis or Bowling- if you played the theme song, people are quick to remember and are so fond of it. Not everyone was an autist freak like you OP and cared about graphics. Personally, I only had one because my then, beautiful fashion model ex-girlfriend was wealthy enough to buy one for both of us- to play Monster Hunter Tri on it with the corresponding Sony-looking controller because Capcom was being a massive faggot back then. I wanted to try other Wii games for the motion controller gimmick- but couldn't pull myself from the banger which was Playstation 3.
Mad World is probably best. Stylish black and white game by Platinum. Ultraviolent hard core shit.
Maybe No More heroes series, but that's kind of japanese.
Red steel is kind of janky.
You're denying any consideration because it's Nintendo when all the games are highly regarded amongst their genres.
You should Al test give F-zero GX a try, it's got none of what you would attribute to most Nintendo games whilst fitting your other criteria.
i got one at launch then sold it after a year and built a pc
You can find the information in some issues of Ask Iwata and interviews with Miyamoto. They stated they did not have the man power initially and severely underestimated the jump to HD games because they had not allocated the necessary resources.
But Sony started the graphicfaggotry
Xbox took it further, they were the ones to sell the Xbox 360 at a loss.
Meanwhile Sony still wanted to make a profit reason the PS3 launched for... $599 USD
youtube.com
Sony could had followed Nintendo and launch a console that was just a marginal update and lost to Microsoft immediately which maybe would had not been so bad, it took literal years for the PS3 to shape up and have games.
Sorry, but F-Zero isn't good enough because it's a Nintendo franchise.
And if I'm going to play on a Nintendo console (or emulator), I want games that look and play just like the most popular PlayStation and Xbox games.
I always get confused. Is Donna the wife, or is Roberta the wife?
Same here. Although my mom got a Wii and I naturally modded it to play ISOs off a hard drive.
Which was brilliant, at the time.
No. It was brilliant when the Dreamcast did it in 1999.
Visiting porn sites with a 56K modem on a 480i TV on your Dreamcast was actually brilliant.
That doesn't make sense. Why would you get a console to play games that are like the ones on other consoles whilst ignoring first party titles?
You're only missing out yourself for reasons you can't justify.
The Wii was the last refuge of the gonzo, experimental AA title.
At the time it was super hyped up and you would always see the demo units in game stores were super popular compared to the 360 and PS3.
Remember, both 360 and PS3's launch windows were pretty lackluster besides the graphical leap. 360 had some good exclusives but PS3's launch was shockingly bad.
By the time those consoles got decent libraries they were also considered very underpowered, it was also the muddy-brown forced coop generation so it's not like those consoles were exactly wowing people.
PC gaming took off in a big way that generation too, just because PC hardware was relatively affordable if you wanted 1080p 60fps which is something neither console was doing.
I think at the time the Wii definitely did have an image of a kids/family console but stuff like Virtual Console, having a lot of Japanese titles as well as a good price point made it really solid for gamers too.
I'm sorry, but I hate all franchises and all first-party games.
I need Gamecube and Wii games that feel, look, and play just like the games and franchises most commonly found on Xbox and Playstation.
People like you now take the success of the Switch for granted but back then you'd be called a madman for even suggesting it could reach 150M units.
So naturally now we're moving the goalpost to "nooo it has to sell 250M to be considered successful".
I'm sorry, but I hate all franchises and all first-party games.
Clearly not of your asking for a list of franchises you want them to be like.
Again you're avoiding playing games for reasons that have nothing to do with games. Childish really.
Sorry.
But I already said it: If I'm going to play Nintendo console games, they have to be games that look, play, and feel like the games you'd see on Playstation and XBOX.
That's f-zero
I don't want to play the damn F-Zero.
I want something that's exactly like Gran Turismo and Forza Motorsports.
well I can't help you. Nintendo doesn't do games where you drive in an oval for 30 laps watching the arrows on the tracks for the perfect line.
They make fun games instead.
Dreamcast being capable of it, in 1999, was nearly irrelevant; people DID NOT USE the Internet in the 90s! I'm happy to hear you're aware the Sega Dreamcast was capable of Internet connection, but please, please, please stop claiming it was commonplace. It was NOT. Not at ALL.
Yes they did! They've been using it since the 70s, you idiot!!
A Sega Dreamcast owner is NOT someone using the Internet in Springfield, IL. As true as the statement is, that "the Internet existed and was used," the idea that the average household in U.S.A. was using the Internet is FALSE. It was a tiny number of people, something like 30%, and the people "using" it were almost entirely COMPANIES or something for WORK.
An average family HOUSEHOLD was genuinely NOT using the Internet!
I'm not being arbitrary or contradictory or just being a troll; I promise you, I know this, this is my experience at a 14-year-old who lived in 1999 during your example of the Sega Dreamcast "using the Internet." My family DID use the (dial-up) Internet on our PC, but it was fucking RARE (my father being a USAF officer who loved this sort of engineering). Our school library had a couple computers attached, but it was mostly meaningless.
You're right the Sega Dreamcast had an modular service port, but the chances of people using it was fractionally tiny, even though rapidly growing.
Which brings back to the 2006 Wii. A console where the Internet was an explosion of cultural delight! We were even getting ethernet! Wi-Fi connections! We could even STREAM things, now! In just a few years, using "The Web" was becoming amazingly popular! And Nintendo's Wii had all that BUILT IN! And it was CHEAP!! At $250, you no longer had to use your home PC; you could browse the web and play games online via your TELEVISION!
I was incredibly excited as most people were, i was also a stupid kid who thought the wiimote would be more than a waggle stick. In hindsight what i expected it to be was what VR ended up being.
people DID NOT USE the Internet in the 90s!
What third world country are you from?
I thought the Wii was amazing because I wasn't a graphicscuck and gaming becoming a family thing was very fun while it lasted. The 360 and PS3 were terrible, it was just generic shooter copy #37.
I was there for ravi drums, he was a professional
Wario ware and wii sports go burrr
Fps on wii was really fucking amazing, feels bad that industry just decided that its shit
Unironically the best way to play RE4.
I didn't have a frame of reference in what was strong despite being in high school, I just bought consoles that had games I wanted to play.
videogames are about moving your thumbs
Thumbsticks are only good for character movement with a camera that doesn't need player input, you need motion controls or at least a mouse if you want to do anything more complicated than that.
Just look at how modern games handle "fast movement", everything is a canned, context sensitive animation because the game can't assume that the player can look at things reliably.
Yea, third person shooters were even better, re 4 played smooth as fuck
They've had the idea for 40 years at least and still aren't taking advantage of it
So retard.
How long are you going to pull this shitck?
I've seen you in every Nintendo thread for a week now bitch mewling that 'le heckin wii is just a gamecuberino! not next gen!!! HELLOOOO???!!!'
Do you think people can't see this? put shit together?
Find a new cope.
And yet gyro is now the defacto way to play shooters on consoles.
Which came from motion consoles.
So suck an egg fatlard.
I never got hung up on visuals, so no upgrade in that regard didn't bother me
That said, I don't care for gimmicky antics, so there were only a few games with little to no motion shenanigans, that I could actually enjoy
monster hunter tri was an abandonment of core gamers?
Excite Truck?
Red Steel 1+2?
Mad World?
De Blob?
Two zelda games?
Smash bros with a strong single player campaign?
Pandora's Tower?
Xenoblade Chronicles?
Mario Strikers Charged?
Never mind all the DS games like
Steel Diver.
TWEWY.
Sonic Rush.
etc.
Anyone saying Nintendo 'abandoned' core gamers is living in a very depressing fantasy world.
Although I don't care for most of those games, I agree
The original switch is when Nintendo began to abandon core gamers
I wanted oblivion with wii controls.. VR came too late for me
My first thought was that thing should make for a rad fucking lightsaber and yet they never made any good games for it involving a lightsaber
Shame. Damn shame.
Skyward sword is much better than BOTW
Metroid Prime was perfection on Wii
but dammit I want something new and different and creative in my consoles ffs
screeches the reard who didn't buy
ARMS
Splatoon
Code Name STEAM
Ever Oasis
Game Builder Garage
HarmoKnight
Tank Troopers
Astral Chain
or any other new Nintendo IP over the last 15 years
I'm beyond fucking sick of this meme.
Nintendo makes the most new IP out of the big three and you niggers ALWAYS find some excuse to deflect off that.
I played OoT. Wind Waker was for kids. Twilight Princess was OoT but EVEN BETTER
I saw Mario Galaxy and thought it looked amazing graphically and so much fun.
Mate.
The ceo of The Pokemon Company thought the Switch would be a failure.
Every 3rd party was banking on it dying.
You are full of shit.
was excited for it
got one
novelty eventually wears off and i'm eternally disappointed that all of nintendo's games now force in some waggling gimmick
Fuck the wii.
Why in the God damned fuck are you feeding this blatant troll anon?
You troglodyte.
ARMS
Astral Chain
Bayo3 + origins
getting skyrim, witcher3, gta collection, doom2016 + eternal, etc
Mario + rabbids
warhammer 40k mechanicus
every xenoblade game
various dragon quests and final fantasies
2 mon hun games
2 splatoons
metroid dread + prime1 hd
etc
this is abandoning core gamers
You deranged faggots are beyond fucking tiresome.
Holy shit. Just accept Nintendo is a good dev/publisher.
If you know, you know.
Perhaps I should've provided context, rush to judgement-kun
The games on switch are fine enough, I'm talking about the system's infrastructure, how it functions, "services", etc
Gonna need to see that quote. You are an actual retard if you believe that. Again, 3DS on its own had 75M. It was impossible for the Switch to not at least match that. Pretending Switch was some kind of comeback story surprise success is some of the most retarded victim mentality/fetishization I’ve ever seen.
post your weight, anon
Change for the sake of change is exactly what killer the Wii U.
Also it's funny to watch people say this when the PS2 and SNES are considered two of the best consoles of all time when they were essentially just hardware upgrades.
Hell, the Switch 2 seems even more innovative with the mouse con stuff.
I refuse to play anything that isnt the most pleb-certified normie boring slop on the planet
just kys
nta, but I think what doomed it was poor brand management, and a shift (for the worse) in what "gaming" is
If you look at Wii, Wii U, and Switch, you can see that the idea of Switch was there, but the tech wasn't, so ultimately I'd say the Wii U's failure was 50/50 internal and external
I'm glad that the Switch ditched the two screen thing that they were trying to do with the Wii U. It worked with the DS because you saw them both at the same time, but it was complete ass switching between the two on Wii U. Fun in theory, a headache in execution.
I was simply excited for a new Zelda that came back to the darker tone instead of the cartoony theme of the last gen.
Did you like it?
Yes
For me it was all I hoped for
What does next gen even mean?
Only dropped the Wii because I felt like I was missing out on voice chat online games
I got a Wii Speak because I thought it would take off and let me chat with lots of people in games. It slipped my mind at the time that Nintendo was gay and made you use friend codes to do anything, so I never got to use it.
It was more like Nintendo abandoning their core fans to pander to the "modern audience" instead.
Snoys are projecting Playstation's fuck ups onto Nintendo again.
