I dunno man, apparently there's an enemy with a shield similar to the Marauder but giant. If you stand at range he spawns an actual invincibility bubble and shoots projectiles until you get close. Then you just parry his stomps while shooting until he dies.

Nudoom is famously bad at showcasing the game because the games have a degree of nuance you can't bring out, either in a video recording or if you lack execution. Doom Eternal when previewed by a journo looks boring, dogshit. When it's played by a sufficiently capable PC FPS player, it looks rad. You can't trust non-gamer footage at all, otherwise you wouldn't have bought Eternal because how badly Hugo played it in the E3 preview.

The monster design in itself is not a problem, unlike pretty much everything else about Doom the Dark Ages.
The 2 previous titles, Doom 2016 (sometimes erroneously called Doom) and Doom Eternal, were only ruined by the glory kill QTEs and visual clutter (glowing enemies/loot pinatas). Doom the Dark Ages doesn't even look like Doom anymore - gameplay-wise (parrying) or visually (since somehow the evolution of the visual clutter forced them to make all the levels washed out).
To compare, Doom 3 didn't look like much Doom, but at least it played and sounded like the maze levels of older Doom games.

Too many players jumped into it on UV or NM expecting to breeze through and got wrecked without learning the game, when learning the game is where the vast majority of difficulty is. My time with it on UV was generally "easier" than my first play through on HMP because of this.

I have mixed feelings on Eternal myself, but I still think the difficulty curve was part of what alienated people.

Every encounter gives you the opportunity to take a breather by running around the arena since no enemies have hitscan attacks. You go fast, but you don't actually have to be fast.

I'm not saying UN is easy, I'm saying the game isn't generally difficult even on NM. Finishing Mario Kart 64 without a single crash is fucking hard. No-hit Dark Souls is fucking hard. Beating Doom Eternal deathless? Yeah, it's pretty fucking hard.
My point is that dying is almost always the result of bad decision making, not reaction time or poor aim. Many encounters in the game become completely trivial once you know when and where enemies spawn. None of the challenge involves actually being fast or accurate.
Once you understand how the game actually works and what you can get away with, you realize how lenient it is towards the player.

This is probably the most offensive part of the game for me. They inject all of this story, but the main mechanism of the gameplay has no in-universe reason for WHY there are green projectiles. The weak points in Eternal make sense. Why would the demons even shoot green projectiles? Or what makes the Doom Slayer see certain projectiles as green? It's way too Arcade-ified, and DOOM has never been about being an Arcade game. It's always been about heavy ambience and heavy immersion.

Glowing power ups were one thing, but unless those green shots are made to be insta-kill or something if you miss the parry...WHHHHHYYYY
