You can get KF1/2 for cheap, they're a bit different in terms of gameplay, but both are fantastic games in their own ways.

I loved KF1 in my teens, one of the best shooters ever made but everything baout KF2 made me drop it, it was so bad and I gave it a genuine try but it just lost the ball so hard.
So I'm surprised there's even 3 coming out now, Tripwire used to mean something to me damn it. Original Red Orchestra is still fucking amazing and 2 was ..meh, it was alright but still worse than its predecessor.

Also just to add KF1 & 2 have been freebies on multiple occasions, so check your Steam & EPIC accounts, cause you probably already own one of them.

Wave survival. You pick a perk that specializes in different weapons, and kill zeds to earn money to spend between waves and tackle harder specimens with stronger weapons until you reach the boss wave. The enemy health scaling per player makes the team more inclined to specialize.

Despite having a start as a UT2004 mod, it has a little bit more in common with CS like the other anon said, buying armor and guns, of course don't expect a carbon clone but even in KF1 holding a knife out makes you move faster. Iron sights are largely superficial mechanically. KF2 is a bit more 'modern' with sprinting, gun porn, and gorn, but is not as well liked around here, its theming is a lot weaker and less cohesive.

Yeah idk. I actually had a rather positive opinion of the game during the beta. But it still needed a lot of work and I'm not so sure the couple of months extra they've had to polish it is enough. I'll probably buy it on release, the KF games are some of my all time favorites so I'm pretty excited for a new one, but I think there's a high chance it'll still need massive amounts work post launch

Evolution in my opinion on this is that KF1 would look exceptional with modern graphics. The tone and atmosphere of that game was completely lost on the subsequent games and Im now looking for KF4 before KF3 is even out beceause they have not made a sequel, theyve made a different fucking game with all the "evolution" its done, its "evolved" to be a different game."

None of these things are inherently good just because they are new or are in other games. Even a simple sprint function moves farther away from making players stick together because they move slow, KF3 has doubled down on this by adding parkour where you can watch the footage, where a horde of enemies come and instead of getting corners he just vaults up a fucking wall to another floor and the enemies have to go the long way, this is not condusive to team play, people will be running in different directions with this shit like they actually did in the beta. Long gone are the days of holding down a position with someone welding the doors and everyone doing their class role, relying on each class to be doing their role to succeed, replaced by everyone being able to do everything themselves, where the coop is just playing in the same lobby as other players killing enemies, not playing with them as a group to stay alive. Its lost its identity, and I want to go back, not "evolve" forward.

But it's a pretty cool mechanic imo that can be expanded upon and the game should more actively punish straying from the group.

if you played the beta you'd know this isn't the case. you can slide and shit but enemies are just as fast (and FPs/Scrakes are much faster). you can't outrun them any more than you could in the first two games.

the problem is that it's not using all that good tech at all. I can have 150 ragdolls in kf2 all with full dismemberment and persistence. The physx shit is broken these days but that alone is more interesting than anything in KF3.

Yes, everyone runs around like a headless chicken, some enemies are so fast that there is no running from them. One of the bosses was fucking annoying because of this, you were guaranteed to take damage. KF is suppose to be slower, people move together, this is a lot more frantic and fast paced. May be preference but I really didnt like it, again, it reminds of me Darktide but without the Warhammer aesthetic. As a support main, the near uselessness of the support tool is dissapointing, especially since enemies now permanently destroy doors, I ended up not even using the support tool because of this.
