Well there is no alternative, genuinely no other game plays like tf2, or has similar aesthetics and characters. To be honest even tf2 doesn't play like tf2 at this point thanks to the matchmaking, but still. Why should I have to "move on" to a newer game if I'm enjoying the old game still?

That's because people who study and do game design are actually able to identify all the flaws TF2 has and don't want to repeat same mistakes. Only TF2 players seeing TF2 as holy grail of multiplayer fps. There's a reason why new players staying away from it. I tried getting into TF2 during jungle inferno and even back then it was way too much bullshit to deal with. Modern shooters a lot more balanced towards fun despite being competitive. TF2 isn't competitive but its mechanics are so undefined it basically enables highly abusive gameplay which isn't fun for anyone who casually engages with the game.

Rocket jumping is good example of undefined game mechanics since there's no limit of how fast or high you can go. Having players zooming from spawn in 2 seconds after you just killed them isn't particularly well balanced game.
Also credit where it's due, they did a pretty good job not making that guy a "Hero" type character and kept him mostly as a "Class".
