Monday night combat also died. Personally I think its annoying to move the dota format into the third person shooter because its frustrating switching between last hitting mobs and shooting enemies during laning phase. Also a bunch of matches the other team snowballs and we get dumpstered. The effect of bunkering near your tower and rax to gain an advantage or stealthily ganking as 5 to secure 1 or 2 kills when you are down bad and allow a comeback I didnt see much of. Id just rather play dota than play this, or play an entire other genre of shooter if I wanted to shoot.

People are still mad at Valve for what they did to the artifact fanbase.

I'm sorry but they're really not. If people even know what happened they mostly understand that nobody was playing it and you don't throw good money after bad.

my discovery queues through the latter half of the 10s were nothing but online games that died in less than 4 months, and i got tired of it and sought out other games to play instead.

A full release with progression, skins, pretty graphics and alternate gamemodes will bring the game back, but that won't be for a while. The public is largely unaware of it, and the people who tried it and forgot are used to the characters being textureless blobs.
