Actual longtime RE fan here.
A significant portion of the RE fanbase is biological femoids. It's the only fanbase where I've consistently encountered people in the community that I thought of as men, and then one day they post shit like "Steve Burnside cosplay" and my eyes are opened (because for a few minutes I think that person is severely underage).
This is just because RE attracts a genuine fujo fanbase though. Its male characters are designed with female appeal in mind primarily which causes this to happen.
I wouldn't say "50%" of the RE fanbase is women though. It's significantly higher than most other games, but not really half.

Silent Hill though? Sausage party. Most female fans get scared off by the severe autism factor SH attracts and generally it doesn't have a lot of appeal as a franchise beyond database aspects, and database fans are typically male.
