I'll be honest I barely felt anything for Sophie. I think they would have done better if they started the game with the parents going on the expedition. Maelle has to let go of Gustave who's death is sudden, but as an expeditioner it's atleast expected. Lune built her entire fucking existence over avenging her parents and making them proud, so she would be the most affected by Sirene's ghost visions. In reality, them being paired with their respective Axons was supposed to be the conclusion to their arcs, where they overcome their most unhealthy fixations. The real problem with the writing is that they don't actually show them working through their trauma, they just have abrupt eureka moments out of nowhere.

I think we're all underestimating Clea's involvement in the events of the game. She says she "won't get involved" and she's only "helping" a bit, but I genuinely think she actually guided the events like a military mastermind. All the while making sure it's a clockwork machine that works itself with minimal personal involvement on her part because she's too busy to spend all these years in a single canvas.

Everything to expedite the process of getting both parents out of the canvas, unknowing to Renoir who's content with just waiting it out until the end, which Clea has NO patience for.

They don't actually deal with that at all, though. The final act is entirely about the Dessendres and everyone else is just chopped liver.

Good there was a damage cap before Act 2, so we could properly see what the bosses did. Even without Maelle, I had to go out of my way not to melt the life bars on Act 3.

the problem we have right now is that there is minimal connection to the outside world, maximum connection to the "fake" world but there is no choice to save the fake world and its fake people

this is actually becoming a huge problem in my playthrough lol. after around level 30, almost every battle, even bosses, is over in one round. not getting to see enough of their movesets or hear their unique tracks.

Sure it might be after he got the shit beaten out of him, but it's made clear that he knew she was lying to him about coming back. It is morally dubious how Maelle basically recreates a 2.0 version of Gustave, Sophie, and all the others but there's still Lune, Sciel, Monoco, Esquie, and all the gestrals/grandis in the world who were still their original selves with all their memories before the paintress was killed. I think it's acceptable in the end since Maelle only brought back people who died unfairly and had their futures stolen, the only really bad thing she did was keep Verso alive.
