I wanted a cool expedition with a big bitch to beat at the end, not a fancy family therapy session

but there was a cool expedition and a big bitch to beat at the end?

you can't just tack on your retarded family drama shit to a different premise and plot that doesn't support it.
devs wanted to have their cake and eat it too. they ended up ruining the game.

Most people loved the plot. The game is a success, it sold Millions. You're the exception. The devs were right.

I'm glad i got both

most people went and paid to see the Aladdin remake.
People are retarded and have no standards for quality.

most people think cod, gta and fifa are the apex of videogames

doesnt quite hit the same when it turns out that all of that was actually just in some imaginery world thought up by depressed retards, and the ending where you actually want to keep said imaginery world going is clearly flagged as the bad one

And they'd be right

people will come to realize its garbage
it took me a week and I still love the game but the initial idea is much more compelling than the family drama/ fake world shit

Drop the meth pipe, Alicia

play Gears of War

reddit writers don't know how to write anything except muh trauma

Dude, the plot "twist" is put before you from the start, front and center. And "grief after losing your loved one" is the center theme of the game. The game starts with Gustave being made to let go of Sophie, then in escalates with Maelle mourning Gustave, it's only natural it eventually escalates.

The game starts with Gustave being made to let go of Sophie

Executed really badly. he wasn't that upset about it and hadn't even seen her in years.
but you have a point. they already had plenty of avenues to explore grief with the premises existing world and characters.
Making the decision to tack on another unfitting, underdeveloped world and set of characters, that the story could not support, even more fucking retarded and pointless.

tomorrow comes (for the dessendres)

when one falls, we continue (until we are done being plot devices)

Executed so badly people cry at the scene lmao you fucking bots

when one falls (Verso), we continue (the Dessendres)

the expeditions inherently developed a sense of needing to push forward through an endless and hopeless struggle to kick the paintress down

it was Aline literally fighting herself to be able to overcome her inner struggles

Kino

it's FRENCH

fair enough

Kill painters. Behead painters. Roundhouse kick a painter into the concrete. Write a painters name in the death note. Slam dunk a painter baby into the trashcan. Crucify filthy brush users. Defecate in a painterss food. Launch painters into the sun. Stir fry painters in a wok. Toss painters into active volcanoes. Urinate into a painter gas tank. Judo throw painters into a wood chipper. Twist painters heads off. Report painters to the IRS. Karate chop painters in half. Curb stomp pregnant painters. Trap painters in quicksand. Crush painters in the trash compactor. Liquefy painters in a vat of acid. Eat painters. Dissect painters. Exterminate painters in the gas chamber. Stomp painters skulls with steel toed boots. Cremate painters in the oven. Lobotomize painters. Mandatory abortions for painters. Grind painters fetuses in the garbage disposal. Drown painters in fried chicken grease. Vaporize painters with a ray gun. Kick old painters down the stairs. Feed painters to alligators. Slice painterss with a katana. Kill painters with cuts from a thousand pens

It just works, anon.
But you get a literal kaiju fight in the end, so that's fun.

I'll be honest I barely felt anything for Sophie. I think they would have done better if they started the game with the parents going on the expedition. Kinda like how FF15 started with the fight against Ifrit, and you could have basically reused rigs because it makes sense that the kids would have the same abilities as the parents. We will prob get DLC about the previous expeditions which would be kino, some of the expeditions were really out there as far as industriousness goes (ferris wheel flying machine).
I cry when Hiccup made toothless upset in how to train your dragon because the music is sad. I don't really think female streamers crying from a 2hours intro with a character they barely know is really an indicator of quality writing. I legit cared more when that nigga who saved Gustave died.

I didn't. especially after seeing her randomly squatting like a slav during gameplay and the reveal that she wasn't even his wife, she was just an old ex he'd barely spoken to.
That seen had infintley more impact in the reveal trailer and looked better too.

Alan pls, you are just jelaous.

salty fuck.jpg - 1888x1341, 223.68K

how to train your dragon

jesus fucking christ

You are a funny guy. Probably autistic, but funny anyway.

Renoir did nothing wrong
His family is just full of druge addicts

And as we know, what people tell you about addicts is

force the matter, beat them up and screech at them if they don't want your help, YOU need to want them to recover, not them

it took me a week and I still love the game but the initial idea is much more compelling than the family drama/ fake world shit

Agreed 100%

did anybody actually finish it?
i tried, i really, really tried, but every time combat started (which was every 20 seconds) i kept rolling my eyes that i will just 15 minutes pressing F and just turn the game off.

I am the mask island, with the joy mask.
At almost every turn the mask heal the boss by around 8k, and I can't outdamage it, I don't have enough AP. It's been like that since 20 minutes.
I'm already on the brink of dropping the game, but I really need help here, it's fucking annoying.

Clea had to do everything while her family was playing in Narnia

Nobody asked for your opinion, trannymerican

I'm sorry, I wasn't 9 when that movie came out

Executed really badly. he wasn't that upset about it and hadn't even seen her in years.

They live in a world where they have their entire lives to prepare for the final deadline?
It's actually perfectly layered start to end. Gustave has entire life to let go of people with a clear expectation when and how. Maelle has to let go of Gustave who's death is sudden, but as an expeditioner it's atleast expected. Verso's death was sudden and unexpected to all, none of them were ready for it so their grief is just as sudden.

paintress family drama

:(

jenova family drama

:)
I guess it's ok when Japan does it

Yeah, Renoir does make a shit argument for Alicia. His daughter is a PTSD-stricken, crippled mute that literally lost the will to live. And he's doing it about himself. It's nice that he wants her back, but she has nothing to return to. And Renoir just dismisses it with "it'll be fine".

he wasn't that upset about it

The game opens with him making a dark joke about her withering and dying, it's a society where people accept the Gommage as the inevitable doom it is. Next time pay attention, or better yet actually play the game instead of watching YouTube videos about it.

guys this boss keeps healing himself its been 800 minutes

guys im 40 hours into the fight

its ok i almost finished the filler boss fight its only 8 hours

you people dont value your time anymore.
time is precious, dont waste on turn based combat.

7934ghdshk3.jpg - 401x372, 24.01K

it's a society where people accept the Gommage as the inevitable doom it is.

they have ritualized it into quasi-religions, but this doesn't mean that they aren't fighting against it with all their strength retardLORD

Tomorrow comes... but not for us because we have to all die because our demiurges are cunts and that's presented as good and moral and "letting go"

Stinks of huge rewrites

Who is in your party and ehat skills are you using? A decently levelled up Lune or Maelle should wipe this sub-boss in few turns.

It's funny that Verso then does the same thing.
The fact only Clea knows to let bitches be proves again that she is the only rational person in the entire fucking universe. Bar the occasional psychopathic torturing of fake individuals.

Maelle, sciel and verso.
I use the basic skills I guess? berserk slash, fleuret fury, momentum strike

Yeah I know, I wanted to give it a try but maybe it was a mistake

Clea is super based.

annoyed at her parents for being in a useless stalemate

create a murderous new species to kill all inhabitants of the painting that at the same time weakens her bitch mother

paints over her painted version because she didn't like her

also turns her into an automaton to create even more murderous nevrons

tricks Simon into killing an axon for her, also paints over him to make him into a roided up freak

abandons him in the abyss

makes fun of her sister's burn injuries

throws her into the painting

gets annoyed when she's about to get stuck in there for years and will no doubt suffer while there

whatever I'm going out

I haven't looked into this game at all, but can someone confirm to me if this is just babies first jrpg *normal fag edition*

To his credit, at least Verso bothered to give Alicia a proper pep-talk. Sure, it's a cliche, but that's more then Renoir ever did.

I have no idea how anyone can get stuck on that boss. It's impressive

You're still underleveled, your best chance is to use Verso and Maelle and try to break him as much as you can

Pretty sure even Painted Renoir had more of a decent behavior. But Real Renoir had been having a melty over trying to force someone else to do things his way for 67 years so, guess there is that.

but she has nothing to return to.

She's being a retarded 16 year old.
She has a family that loves her (her mom is debatable) and a wonderful gift.
She's just too young and too busy wallowing in self pity to see that and would rather kill herself with her fake brother.
Verso and Renoir were 100% right there

you only see walls!

And these excuses do what? oh nothing.
they do nothing to mitigate the diminished emotional impact.

-she should have just been his wife
-they should have removed all the awkward running around with jank animations talking to NPCs before hand.
-and removed the low budget Bethesda 'standing in place awkwardly mouth flapping' dialogue cut-scenes that seriously diminish the quality of the game and the impact of everything.
-any grief exploration could have been done with gustav or any other existing characters who lost people. they never needed to tack on a reality break.

this doesn't mean that they aren't fighting against it with all their strength

Which is why Gustave joins the Expedition. He knows Sophie's Gommage is up, did you want him to shit piss and cry during the Prologue?

Tomorrow comes

And it does come, in the end

Stinks of huge rewrites

No matter in how many different threads you try to push your headcanon, it won't change the fact the game's entire writing supports the moral tale post-reveal nor can it change the fact Verso existed in the very first version of the game called We Lost pitched back in 2020

the only two characters who genuinely did nothing wrong get the most tragic ends

BRAVO PIERRE

just burn his ass
burning is so good

And it does come, in the end

Not for them faggot, they all died for nothing so their cruel gods wouldn't cry like little bitches.

painted people aren't real because they're created by a higher dimension entity

Does that mean that if God is real (we) aren't? And if he decides to kill us we don't get to complain? Versofags are so fucking retarded.

only Clea knows to let bitches be

She only does so because Alicia and Aline are useless to her fight against the Writers. She gets involved precisely because she needs Renoir for irl affairs. She's just as self-serving, it's just that her method of grieving is getting involved in other things so she doesn't have time to think about Verso.

Are you being willfully retarded? Besides the crippling, the world she is destroying is 1:1 her home as the real one. Same amount of years lived. Arguably, much more accomplished within it and more people she loves and has connections with.
There is no point in oversimplification. The idea she would be abandoning her real family after essentially causing the loss of Verso through her mistakes is already a bad implication. Your post is just retardation.

You are using Dualiso on Verso, right? My go-to tactic is to have Verso print the AP for the rest of the team by spamming Commander or putting Marks on enemy, then have Lune stack as many Burn stacks as she can, so that Maelle can gain her Virtuoso stance and melt everything with Sword Ballet. Then have Lune wipe out what's left with Lightning Dance, that at this point should be buffed with fire stains. Just focus on nuking one enemy at the time.

They are real, but at that point they won't be "them" anymore because it'll be Alicia recreating them.
If you agree that they are human beings, then they shouldn't be ressurrected for Alicia's own amusement.
All Verso did was save his crazy mother and later his stupid sister, no matter the cost.

ontological cuckoldry

Clea wants Alicia to do her own thing and not be shackled by her parents like good big sis

diminished emotional impact.

Sounds like a (You) issue

they should've removed content

And that's why the game has received the acclaim it has and you're sperging out in Anon Babble(nel)

They live on in Alicia's memory. They were never meant to be a thing, Aline violated Verso's Canvas with her bullshit. The painting is doomed regardless, you're just choosing whether to let the 16yo rot inside it or not

Inception

Matrix

SOMA

Star Trek Holodeck

Layers of Fear

gimme more of that shit

here's another one i believe to be true

paints over her sister to get rid of her

no kidding its the only thing that makes sense
Aline is confused as fuck by Maelles existance so it wasn't her
Renoir kind of makes sense but at the same time it doesn't
Clea on the other hand has perfect reason to do that - she has little faith in Alicia helping anyone, but knows she can't stop her from meddling so she outright baits her into going inside the canvas so she can "help"
but she KNOWS Alicia will only fuck things up worse with her "helping", so she makes sure she doesn't by painting Maelle over her

The point is that it doesn't MATTER if they're real you idiot. 99% of them are gone when you make the choice, it's only Lune and Sciel vs Verso being allowed to fucking rest both in painted and sovl form and whether or not Alicia will turn into a methhead like her mom. It sucks, sure, but the painting needs to go

That's not how it's shown to work at all and not how the developers intended for you to take the ending, so I doubt it.

the world she is destroying is 1:1 her home as the real one.

You'd have a point if she even remotely cared about that world.
Just watch the ending cutscenes again, the ONLY thing she cares for in that canvas is that Verso is there. She quite literally doesn't want to lose him again and if the canvas existed without his soul then she'd actually do what her dad said and only visit every now and then instead of using it to cope.

Maelle died at the end of Act 2 btw

They are real, but at that point they won't be "them" anymore because it'll be Alicia recreating them

They debate this in-universe but based on what we saw with Lune and Sciel, their personhood depends on their chroma which is preserved after death if not taken by Nevrons. A painter can modify it, but they don't have to.

the combat is utterly atrocious, very few games ever made waste as much time as this.
the only other game with such time wasting combat was bg3.

pro tip for people who want to try this game out but dont have 9000 hours to waste on turn based combat:
just download Wemod and turn on 1 shot victory.

They "die" but it's temporary, Maelle effectively reincarnates them and their being continues.

Bro go back to FF1, it's the type of simple story you want

That's not how it's shown to work at all

Noco disagrees.

and not how the developers intended for you to take the ending

Aside of Alicia refusing to let verso die and forcing him to play, because that's what she wants to do.
The people in the painting have no free will from that moment on.

There are several cutscenes. Talking to her dad and the camp, she cares about her life and the world ventures she will get into. Talking to Verso, she emotionally assaults him so he will back down from fighting since she also obviously cares about that.
You saying she "ONLY" cares about that is like saying Verso only cares about killing himself because it's what he states during the clash and his losing speech.

The people in the painting have no free will from that moment on.

Lune disagrees.

nooo you can't add profound and deep drama to my bing bing woohoo its ruining it waaahhh

You are the reason inane shit like TLOU or God of Soi are considered masterful writing in vidya.

Painting's doomed anyway, if it's to be destroyed best to go with the clean break over the one that's gonna burn the protagonists' descendants in an in-universe century when Alicia collapses and Renoir throws the canvas into a woodchipper

Not going to indulge you if you only come to argue on bad faith again, schizo. At least get new material.
Have my concession. Bye.

profound and deep drama

That entire family of petty demiurges needs to be holocausted btw.

You saying she "ONLY"

Maybe she should have talked about anything else.
Maybe she shouldn't have admitted she only cared about the canvas because it was verso's.
Meanwhile Verso actually talks about saving her.

Writers did nothing wrong

709536001 (You)

Holy filtered. You a journo?

You are using Dualiso on Verso, right?

No, why should I?
It buff base attacks, and I only use skills

best to go with the clean break over the one that's gonna burn the protagonists' descendants in an in-universe century

better to lose rock than not have one

Did you miss the part where it gives an extra turn on basic attack? Which with bonus AP on basic attack hit and extra hits on basic attacks prints AP?

it's literally free attack to stack debuffs and get full AP, no wonder you're struggling

So you are just willfully ignoring whatever dialogue doesn't support what you want to see, despite being there. Aight.
Bye again.

So who is going to make the Bell Curve meme?

Story bad because dumb plot twist soap opera drama and killed Gustave, simple story to kill the Paintress is better

It is a deep and profound analogy for addiction and grief, you just don't get the masterful writing, VR Sims ChatGPT people lay down the heroin

The Dessendres are irredemable monsters and deserve no catharsis but to suffer in the hell they made.

just download Wemod and turn on 1 shot victory.

does this actually work? can anybody confirm?

never explain how Gustave survived Dark Shore

FUCK YOU YOU FRENCH CUNTS

content

You're walking around talking to NPCs with the laziest most garbage looking dialogue animations ever.
That's not content.

Ah, I get it. Not ADHD enough for you? Not enough backflips and explosions? (You)

This and they never explained why the Axons have a connection with Sciel and Lune
It's like they changed their mind and rewrite act 3

Act1 is standard JRPG shit, kill le ebil Demiurge

Turns out, you were le ebil Demiurge all along!!!!

Masterful and subversive GOTY tier writing right here.

why the Axons have a connection with Sciel and Lune

SORRY ANON THEY DON'T MATTER THEY'RE FAKE WE HAVE TO FOCUS THE WRITING ON THE SAD FRENCHMEN
CHOO CHOO MOVING THROUGH MOTHERFUCKER

facial animations dont exist in 33, they're just opening and closing their mouths like beaches fish

UH UH UH DO YOU HAVE ADHD OR SOMETHING

?

They don't, you idiot. Sciel doesn't wear a mask and is an open book so Visages has no effect on her. Lune doesn't let herself get taken over by emotion and is analytical, so Sirene has no effect on her. It's obvious conclusions the writing arrives at because the characters are strong, and you're throwing a hissyfit over your headcanon like stated with the last line in

The degree to which I've soured on the game in a week going from Act 1 to 3 cannot be measured.

Check mobile "games"

They're glorified gambling

But If my game has female nipples the fucking UN drops on my porch to pacify me. Can the Sun go Red giant yet I don't trust that even death can save me from these fucking animals.

Not enough backflips and explosions

talking to window dressing NPCs is not gameplay at all.

People like you are the reason most games are full of exposition and marvel quips

Don't be meanies.
Wanna snuggle?

_4451183b.jpg - 1920x1080, 403.04K

Don't worry, for zoom zooms like you they made it so you can just sprint to the end of the sequence in 5 minutes! Now go look at the jingling keys.

I didn't play the game

They are not fake tough? What are you talking about?

uuuuuuhhh his arm did it

EVERYTHING MUST BE EXPLAINED!

this is why movies are so garbage nowadays drowning you with boring exposition all the time

It's not a.dream or all in the head, why do people keep saying this. Is it because act 3 opens with real maelle waking up, so people all think that (even though it says 16 years earlier?)

I see so many posts like this it's baffling.

what's this game's story?

it's all in le head xd (completely wrong)

wow I knew it, this game sucks, listen to my rant on this game

There are legitimate things to complain about so stop taking the word of complete strangers as truth just because they're telling you what you want to hear

stop laughing that 33 doesnt have facial animations

you have uh uh the the

you have uh

ADHD

im pretty sure kids with ADHD arent reducing the quality of ingame animations.

they made it so you can just sprint to the end

too late I already saw how bad the animations are and was already convinced to refund and play the rest in steam emu.

You listen to incorrect opinions of illiterate retards and value it over forming your own. It says something about you.

Sciel doesn't wear a mask and is an open book so Visages has no effect on her

If that's the case, why is her revelation "le mask can't hurt me because it IS me!" Hell, why does she have a mask at all?

If anything, the intent was almost certainly the opposite of what you're saying. Sciel is the most cope-ridden character in the game, more suicidal even than Verso, and yet she pretends to be all chill and jaded because she would instantly fall apart otherwise. Lune built her entire fucking existence over avenging her parents and making them proud, so she would be the most affected by Sirene's ghost visions. In reality, them being paired with their respective Axons was supposed to be the conclusion to their arcs, where they overcome their most unhealthy fixations. The real problem with the writing is that they don't actually show them working through their trauma, they just have abrupt eureka moments out of nowhere.

Have you considered not being bad? Fix your fucking picto/lumina/skill loadout, you've probably got all kinds of shit on that you don't need. Add some damage buffs instead of being super safe, this game is broken

bro just 1 shot everything so you never even see what enemies do and may as well not be playing.

How would you continue the original plot?

its literally impossible to be bad at turn based games.
just use a trainer to 1 shot everything and save hours of time.

...why are you so mean to Painted Alicia?
I literally removed some of the more broken pictos from my Mealle, so I can have a fun, friendly mirror duel with her.
And then she kicked my ass.

Anon Babble will never stop amazing me at how some people can see white and then die on the hill arguing that it's black.
Sciel WAS suicidal and now she is over it. She lives her last year before gommage. She has nothing to hide. She lives her life as she wants it. She has fun fighting on gestral arena. She has fun banging Verso. She only changes her outlook slightly after knowing her husband can be brought back.
Lune was over her grief for parents long time ago. Every other character is grieving for their dead close ones shown to them. Luna is perfectly content continuing their parent's legacy as opposed to mourning their passing.

You must be over 18 to post here.

Also just remembered that Sciel gets unsettled when you take down the subordinate masks on Visages, and Lune is the most affected by the music on Sirene's island.

does Wemod actually work in 33?
can somebody confirm?

If what you're doing isn't working have you considered trying something else? Don't mock me because you're stupid, fsr from learning the fight you were going to quit the game altogether
At your point you can't one shot anything because of the 9999 limit anyways. Buffs, debuffs, and multi hit skills are your friends
Trainers exist for the low iq

he bought it to begin with when he knew he was this fragile

I already got you're retarded you don't have to keep adding to it

I'm not the anon you were talking to.
I can parry.

trainers exist to save time, they are for the high IQ players, so not for you.

Anon Babble will never stop amazing me at how some people can see white and then die on the hill arguing that it's black.

That's the whole discussion on this game, the average youtuber has a better grasp on themes/characters/plot than people discussing it here.

You got both and they were both neat, stop seething

Why even play the game?

Paying money for glitchy subpar shit

I think not cuck. why don't you just wire your paycheck directly to the devs for doing nothing?

If someone acts a certain way outwardly, that's totally who they are and they can't possibly be using it as a coping mechanism to hide anything, nope

You should get checked for autism, anon.

Immersive atmosphere, characters and story. Gameplay is just an obstacle.

faxfrpepe.jpg - 222x278, 8.47K

What paycheck? I'm pirating the game, but I'm not making a big deal about it to try and "own le anons" like some inbreds do

All the dialog, cut scenes, everything about the character in the game backs up my interpretation but of course it's your made up fanfiction that's actually right. Of course.

Aline is the only objective villain of the story.
Fuckin cunt.

You are everything wrong with games.

but it's both?

That's not the end though, and Maelle isn't big at all.

for the story, dialogues, aesthetics, music.
the braindead time wasting turn based combat is standing in the way.

idk, she's a huge pussy who is missing the indomitable human spirit.

Kill Erebus. Behead Erebus. Roundhouse kick Erebus into the Warp. Write Erebus’ name in the death note. Slam dunk Erebus as baby into the trashcan. Crucify filthy Erebus. Defecate in Erebus’ food. Launch Erebus into the sun. Stir fry Erebus in a wok. Toss Erebus into active stars. Urinate into Erebus fuel tank. Judo throw Erebus into under a Imperial Titans foot. Twist Erebus heads off. Report Erebus to the Inquisition. Karate chop Erebus in half with a powerfust. Curb stomp Erebus’ pregnant wife. Trap Erebus in the immaterium. Crush Erebus in the trash compactor. Liquefy Erebus in a vat of nurgles acid. Eat Erebus. Dissect Erebus. Exterminate Erebus in the gas chamber. Stomp Erebus’ skull with steel toed powerboots. Cremate Erebus in the oven. Lobotomize Erebus. Mandatory abortions for Erebus. Grind Erebus fetuses in the garbage disposal. Drown Erebus in fried chicken grease. Vaporize Erebus with a lasgun. Kick Erebus down the stairs. Feed Erebus to Daemons. Rip Erebus with a Chainsword apart. Kill Erebus with cuts from a powersword.

the turn based gameplay is time wasting dogshit, lets skip that and get to the *MEAT*

story, music, art, everything else

its not myproblem the devs are lazy/incompetent and can only code low-effort turn based nonsense.

Nigga I was doing like 9999 damage with certain skills and abilities at like level 15. Have you considered you fucking suck ass at the game and cant read/make a build for characters. Sorry but that one anon struggling with Joy mask is clearly retarded you should easily be able to outdamage 4-8k heals

agree. act 1 was great, 2 was ok, 3 was trash.

anon you literally cannot suck at turn based games, its literally impossible.
people just dont like wasting time, and there exists no bigger waste of time than turn based video games.

you can do 999999999999 damage

another evidence that turn based combat = bad game design and just a waste of time.

I think we're all underestimating Clea's involvement in the events of the game. She says she "won't get involved" and she's only "helping" a bit, but I genuinely think she actually guided the events like a military mastermind. All the while making sure it's a clockwork machine that works itself with minimal personal involvement on her part because she's too busy to spend all these years in a single canvas.

Everything to expedite the process of getting both parents out of the canvas, unknowing to Renoir who's content with just waiting it out until the end, which Clea has NO patience for.

Hear me out:

step #1 Nevrons - weaken Aline's control over canvas by preventing chroma circulation

to make this into a self replicating machine she leaves a paintedClea to do this for her rather than do it herself for god knows how long

step #2 Funnel the power into Expedition to be finally capable enough to take on weaker Aline

this is achieved by hand crafting the perfect expedition - Lune's knowledge of chroma and Gustave with his Lumina Converter - all her creations

took opportunity and painted Alicia over to confuse Aline even further, peak war of information right there

laid the trail to allow Expedition to break through the barrier by killing Axons, likely keeping Renoir in the dark on this who definitely would be against, but once Axons were dead he had no other choice but to put money on it after the fact

sasuga Clea, actual mastermind that wins wars without lifting a muscle, ready to fight the Writers by HERSELF if needed
easily my favorite character in the game and she literally appears for like 5 minutes of screentime

Filtered. I could tell by how retarded your syntax is.

You're not actually interpreting anything, though. You just see

Oh this character is all about numbers and protocol, so they are logical

That's it. You're not digging deeper, trying to understand WHY they behave that way or where it stems from. I'm not even disagreeing with you at all, I'm just saying that there's another layer you're missing. Also, as far as evidence, you'd have to give an explanation for if you want to claim superiority.

but the initial idea is much more compelling

I totally agree. Just having a traditional story of saving the world would have been fine.

ESL here, please fix his post so i can learn how to post correctly.
thanks.

SOMA is a Canadian being too retarded to notice that he's a machine, then later that he was never getting on that ship.

K well no one cares you think that. Why are you in this thread for a turn based game

You're not actually interpreting anything, though. You just see

>Oh this character is all about numbers and protocol, so they are logical

???
I never claimed anything like that you schizo. Post only if you have anything to say regarding something you reply to, don't bring here conversations with voices in your head

i came here to get confirmation that Wemod works for 33.
if i can skip all of the combat, i may reinstall the game.

Retard
I bet you eat up any bad writing because you think it will make you look smart

you expected a game written by woman and faggots to be anything aside “muh traumas and depression”?

but anon, what if le gods were...le flawed? is le compelling, non?

"you expected a game written by faggots to be anything aside “muh traumas and depression”?"

My theory is that npcs are unable to see the parallels with this games story to real life because they themselves are unable to extrapolate existential meaning out of anything but their momentary immediate experience of eating, pissing, shitting, farting, and fucking

Also remember that there are more 3rd worlders incapable of reflection on the internet now more than ever

You’re underleveled and you should take the other options the game gives you to weaken the boss before fighting him

Also remember that there are more 3rd worlders incapable of reflection on the internet now more than ever

americans single handedly spiking the statistics

it was all just a dream!

I genuinely wonder how posters like this even breathe autonomously

I think the point of the game is to make you reckon that if higher beings are real and they created humans, would that make humans any less or more deserving of life or death

IMO once a human knows that they are a creation of a god they should just chill and enjoy the time they have. Fighting is a waste of time when you know you are literally an idea in a gods mind

I have to say, as someone who liked the old JRPG cliche of tossing aside character drama for abstract philosophical musings and killing god in the final act, I finally understand why so many people get assmad about it. This game is basically the opposite: it seems like some kind of big existential treatise on the meaning of life, but really it's just about some assholes who can't stop making their problems everyone else's problems.

If the entire presentation of existential questions through revealing that humans are the toys of gods told through Olympian family drama causes no kind of stirring in you as a player then you should play Dungeons and Dragons

Does playing in hard gives anything at all?
I started in hard, but I'm starting to think it makes the game a bit too boring

It gives you Gamer Cred™

It does nothing, but make it harder. Usually by making the enemies hit harder AND make the already tight parry/dodge window even tighter. But hey, at least you beat it on hard...

depends on where you start rewriting and whether you want to keep the painters
personally you could keep everything until the very end but with the change that gustave is alive and you still play him
now the ending would have three sides, alicias "happy" end, verso genocide and gustaves ending
the gang fights alina and renoir together but afterwards verso and gustave fight alicia because for gustave she basically killed maelle and for verso to end it all - insert player choice here
afterwards gustave would confront verso since he cant let everyone in lumiere die because they are his people and real to him - insert player choice here
if you pick gustave the fight would end with some sort of mcguffin or gustaves arm goes ham or something where you get rid of versos immortality and ideally he also loses an arm
ending scene is everyone in lumiere is old sitting in a concert hall, old verso enters the scene and starts playing piano with his new robo arm from gustave while smiling
ending shot is the real dessendre family walking towards a guillotine while their manor burns in the background jk just leave them out completely

yes I like my happy endings, sue me and gustave is wasted potential personafied
you could have used him so many times to sow distrust between verso and the group - like imagine a scene after they meet and he tells him that hes from the first expedition and the son of the commander, gustave asks for the name and since gustave knows them all he would immediately know that verso lied and would keep him at a robo arms length but still in the end they would fight together

They don't actually deal with that at all, though. The final act is entirely about the Dessendres and everyone else is just chopped liver.

Good there was a damage cap before Act 2, so we could properly see what the bosses did. Even without Maelle, I had to go out of my way not to melt the life bars on Act 3.

WriterGODs win again

lemme just enjoy art by skipping the most spectactular fights and only hear 10 seconds of the battle music.

You're anti-art

A third ending that doesn't involve destroying the painting would be Gustave and Verso forcefully kicking every painter out for the good of the painting. But without a painter they cannot repair the damage that has been done and have to make do with what's left of the world. Probably just Gestrals, if anything at all. Verso doesn't get to die. Whether the family moves on is left ambiguous.
Painting saved but nobody is really happy.
I wonder what would happen if they revived Gustave midway and if he would come to understand Verso's viewpoint that the painters need to let go and reach for a new future.

What do we call this type of fiction where everything is an analogy for depression and trauma?

A third ending that doesn't involve destroying the painting would be Gustave and Verso forcefully kicking every painter out for the good of the painting

yeah thats exactly what I meant but you are right everyone in lumiere is dead now so we have to remove the end of act 2 for it to work or throw in another mcguffin like versos soul getting conscious and saving the day
the problem we have right now is that there is minimal connection to the outside world, maximum connection to the "fake" world but there is no choice to save the fake world and its fake people
thats why we need a fake person who wants to keep his world like gustave

Reality

this is actually becoming a huge problem in my playthrough lol. after around level 30, almost every battle, even bosses, is over in one round. not getting to see enough of their movesets or hear their unique tracks.

art

This story puts you in a fantastical wonderful world, asks you to fall in love with it and then it tells you to choose to end it. The lesson is relevant and is clear, as things progress we can create more and more immersive worlds and lose ourselves in it. It’s important not to lose sight of the reality even if your life sucks.
So what this art prepares us for is dealing with that struggle, and I respect it, however first act basically is a lie to immerse the player enough so that this struggle genuinely manifests. And some of us wanted a more straightforward exploration of a fantastical world, with party members and other stuff that would come naturally if the game had a different focus, with story more being an excuse to push you into this journey like in the breath of the wild.

Nomura saw this shit and thought "yooo imma put it in my game"

make the already tight parry/dodge window even tighter

I don't think so, I beat Simon on normal, then went back to fight him on expert, and didn't notice any difference in timings or hp/defense. He probably did more damage though.

gets a cool expedition in fantasy world and beats it's demiurges into submission

it's somehow a worse thing

I wish the irl demiurge werea qt redhead

yeah, i'm thinking based

alanwake.jpg - 557x975, 21.08K

To be fair to Renoir he literally accepts Alicia's choice in the end. Sure it might be after he got the shit beaten out of him, but it's made clear that he knew she was lying to him about coming back. He just couldn't bring himself to take away the one thing that made his daughter happy anymore, and chose to have a nice goodbye instead of arguing over it infinitely.

a lucky man got to impregnate that

They were both lying to each other, and they both knew the other was lying.

the most sane Writer

It is morally dubious how Maelle basically recreates a 2.0 version of Gustave, Sophie, and all the others but there's still Lune, Sciel, Monoco, Esquie, and all the gestrals/grandis in the world who were still their original selves with all their memories before the paintress was killed. I think it's acceptable in the end since Maelle only brought back people who died unfairly and had their futures stolen, the only really bad thing she did was keep Verso alive.

Maelle ending is canon becasue fuck you that's why

she becomes so engrossed and possessive of the painting she turns Lumiere into a totalitarian state single mindedly focused on detecting and neutralizing any attempt of her family to enter the canvas

Gustave clone trooper checkpoints everywhere

clone Versos solely exist to be accused of plotting and publicly executed every month to keep the morale up

the monolith is covered in edgy skitzo scribblings, think AM from IHNMAIMS

in desperation, the Dessandre family reaches out to their bitter enemy, the Writers

this is where the player comes is, tasked with rewriting Maelle's story, while also advancing the Writer agenda and opposing Clea, who couldn't accept the decision of her family to deal with the devil

I didn't see it as the game lying really, it was more asking "What does art mean to you? Could you become so attached to it and could it be so essential to human existence that you could live for art?" (in the most literal way possible, in Maelle's case)

am I misremembering things or wasn't OG Verso implied to be full of shit and actually to blame for the fire?

I'd like to think "writers" in universe have the same powers as painters (creating worlds etc) and the entire conflict is just about which art form is better lmao
true to life

The writers caused the fire, using Alicia

Try to rewrite the reality of the Dessendre mansion and family to remove Alicia from the canvas

She paints you into a nightmare world where you are trapped infinitely and can't write onto reality anymore

You don't have painting powers so your only way to try to escape is by attempting to apply your writing powers and rules on the world of the painting

???

scratch.jpg - 1280x720, 36.41K

the only really bad thing she did was keep Verso alive.

just play the fucking piano. It's the least you can do after trying to betray everyone

Do you think Sam Lake is butthurt?

I think it's acceptable in the end

playing god with people is acceptable because she feels sad

because she's CUTE and sad, anon

Now you remember she did it all for her, and her reward is fucking him over and treating him like a glorified puppet because she won't ever let go.
Renoir should just raze the whole canvas to the ground at that point.

Why not just put Alina in a loony bin and let Renoir pull Alicia out for dinner every day and everyone can be happy? Except Aline of course but fuck her

clea and maelle hid the painting

in the time aline got out of the canvas and went to fight renoir (this is like an hour tops irl) she already found it and got inside again even if it's killing her

alicia is exactly the same as her mom, except her dad is kinder to her

Alicia herself admits she won't ever let it rest.

hilarious filename, kino movie. good taste

Sure, keep telling yourself that. You lied about your objectives and you lied about wanting to play a concert. Guess what, lying has consequences. now play. This isn't a suggestion. Gustave is here to listen to you, despite your best attempts.

being this butthurt about a character whose motives the game explains to you because he killed someone you liked

They want her to suffer as a cripple for wanting to be a wr*ter

She knows renior is going to put it through the shredder if she ever pokes her head out

Yes.
Now play the piano piano player.

being this mad sciel went back to her husband the moment she could

You were just a replacement cock bro. No need to bomb a performance because of that.

Sciel looks like she wants to cry in Maelle's ending.

The metafaggotry goes further than you can even imagine

Dimension layers from low to high:
[???]
Painted people
Painters
Writers
You, the Player, who gets to decide the ending
Allah

Her ass is pretty big.

Yeah it's a foodchain, I don't get why people think claiming "uhh but if YOUR reality is also fake?" as if it's a big gotcha. Whoever has domain over another existence is objectively correct in erasing it for their own well-being.

and let Renoir pull Alicia out for dinner every day

This. It really shouldnt be this complicated. Doesnt everyone in their world create other worlds and lives through painting/writing/music etc? It would be normal. I dont get why its considered escapism. I mean kids in our world put their phones away at certain times. That should be the norm in their world too.

Honey put the canvas away, dinners ready!

living in the paintings is perfectly fine. citation: irl smartphones

anon...

look at the agony in her eyes as she's with her hubby

file.png - 1498x848, 707.55K

Muh multiple layers of the Matrix

Low iq take.
Theres the canvases(+ books from writers if you want to include them) and their real world. Thats it. Its not even another "layer" even.

Of course she would smile when the demiurge is looking at her. But the last shot before the jumpscare is Sciel looking miserable.

It's not complicated BUT Aline and Alicia are living 24/7 in the painting because Verso is there.

Nah
There did the meta thing on one level, it makes it plausible that they did it for more levels

Being on your smartphones isnt fine

Its the norm in our world.

it's fine because it's the norm

anon...

Yes?

I thought the whole "this world you just immersed yourself for 25 hours is actually just a painting and a lie; not even real" would infuriate me more than it did. I don't know why I let it slide

Apparently it's hard to let go even for people who are trained in it like Alicia
It like "Just let me have the One Ring for a bit bro, I take it off for dinner"

looks more like she and lune are slightly confused by bitchboy isnt touching the piano already. They so happy they got to live they cant imagine verso being a little bitch about it

file.png - 1046x723, 256.21K

Electronic stimulation devices were the worse thing to happen to the human psyche, anon.

God I hate over sensitive zoomers.

Is the implication supposed to be that Alicia was an accident baby? As her sister is in her 30s and her brother was in his 30s but she is 16.

She looked like she was about to cry.

But how does their world even function then when its a world where everyone has the ring?

look, it's okay if you want to genocide lumiere to try and fix the family, but it is weak you try to imagine sciel sad to make you feel better about your choice.

Her brother was 26.
She was probably unplanned, but it's not weird to have babies late in life.

It's every generation since television sets became a common household presence.

Alicia has autism due to her mother having her at too old an age compared to her much older siblings

I know there's 3 acts, and I'm about to fight the paintress.
I just want to be sure : Am I locked out from the world map after I reach her, or I can go back again?

You can go back whenever, there is no real point of no return. Better leave these threads though until you've finished the game because the fuck are you clicking a spoiler

The third act is basically nothing plotwise, it's all just a bunch of optional content before the final battle.

you can go back and I would advise you to tackle the final boss sooner rather than later because otherwise you will just oneshot every fight
do the companion quests but dont bother with the rest after the final boss fight

Definitely do the companion quests, start with Maelle's because the level is kinda lower and it's a huge ass plot relevant level.

They all look miserable. Maelle was right to stay in the painted world.

they look miserable in this painting where the artist decides how they look

The dog is cute, she should take it on a walk instead of sulking inside a painting, that would make her feel better.

You are incapable of understanding facial expressions.

Both stories are good. The msitake was using one as a bait and switch for the other.

Now talk about the game as a game as if you weren't selling a product

We judge fiction mostly by norms that we learn in our real life. We are not blank canvas.

postmodernism

Fr*nch

Tragedy?

are you from Brazil? most of storytelling is ultimately a question of existence that gets resolved through violence or conflict. the trauma of loss and a desire to be happy is boring to you along with 20+ boss fights? you can play COD like the other golem hivemind workers

What's with this desire from first worlders for everything to be miserable and sad?

that horrid world in Maelle ending is just a dollhouse devoid of free will.
It's literal hell

Conflict gets solved with the creation of comicbooks.
Plot twist: the actual bigbad is cinema!

Plot twist: the actual bigbad is cinema!

ARGHHHHHHHHHHH HELP IT'S GOING TO RUN ME OVER

Kino Obscur

yes please

what's the significance of the train station anyway?
I figured it symbolized departure (one of the parents leaving maybe) but that didn't happen

-Garbage
-Reddit writing

I have no clue how you can't deal more than 8K damage every turn. My parry alone would cap at 9999

This is another indie game about loss, grief and depression, don't be fooled

this is accurate

I wonder if it's just easier to write these stories.

this was explicitly explained in a cutscene by aline's unconscious "standing orders" or whatever to the chroma - nobody intentionally painted maelle over alicia

Gustave writes his journal for the generations to come

Maelle keeps writing Gustave's journal to keep his legacy alive

Actually, nothing of this matters because the plot has to be bait and switch bleak pointless garbage and everybody in the painting is doomed and nothing matters and no expedition had any meaning in terms of building a better future for the people of Lumiere

What do you mean. Did you pick the wrong ending?

It's easy to tap into your own grief and depression and to use it.

She kept writing on it as if she wasn't going to revive Gustave if she had won. Plothole maybe

unless you are a zoomer who don't read book, who derives his knowledge of norms by tiktokers and capeshit

I've picked Maelle's ending - the one that would be good, but the writers decided it had to be the bad ending just because. Verso's ending is garbage but is clearly the one the developers set up as the "bitter but good ending" in their retarded minds

muh trauma, muh trauma, muh trauma

if you don't like muh trauma slop why dont' you play the absoultely diametrically opposite kind of slop

If you don't like dogfood why don't you ate shit?

the one that would be good,

lmao, have you even played the game?

silent hill is better if you ignore everything and just focus on killing a bunch of demons/spirits

the game is bittersweet in its ending but is filled with a shit ton of beauty. everything is bright and colorful. theres romance. not enough?

from a gameplay perspective, this is a story driven turn based game. and the story has to be told in a timely fashion otherwise you are going to lose players who dont make it to the end. if you want happy happy bang bang bright colorful fun fun fun happy time then i guess play world of warcraft? not sure what to tell you. Astrobot exists if thats what you want

character is François

character is Pierre

character is Dominique

i have this same headcanon. painters are touted as geniuses! because they create entire beautiful worlds. but no one credits the writers, who create the subtle long-term drama.... until now, when the writers stick it to the painters and show them who's boss. i like it, its very Olympian

wait so Alicia got kicked out at the end of A2 and then WENT BACK INSIDE and we didnt get to see any of this?

Imagine if you played the whole game straight as an adventure and "save" Lumiere but then found this picture hidden somewhere in the post-game

falling for versofag propaganda

If the screen turning black and white upsets you, youre not a true maellechad and deserve to suffer.

If you don't like Slop A, why don't you play that compeltely awful Slop B

Kys retard. Why don't you use drugs if yo uwant depression slop? And why dont' you read books if you want story driven stuff? You hear how silly does it sound, shill?

how do i get these? i went back to Renoires Lumiere and then went to camp and chatted with everyone but no quest. Sciel tried to bonk me but i rejected her in A2. when can i have sexytime with Lune

anything before the bait and switch between ACT 2 and 3 you can forget with no consequences to the story

>wait so Alicia got kicked out at the end of A2

No, the mom does. Alicia jumps into the painting before the game starts (the part in the mansion is a flashback) gets turned into maelle, remembers who she is after the paintress dies, then continues as alicia. aline is kicked out when you kill the paintress but goes back in to help maelle get hte good ending

maybe, sure, but up until then is important for pacing and tone shift which is part of comprehensive storytelling.

the scenes with Renoir and Aline have no consequences to the story

fuck i havent gotten there yet fml. i just got to Lumiere in A3

Bait and Switch happens between Act 1 and 2 if you're paying attention

I dont mean the flying mansion, I mean the part where you talk with clea, that is the setup that gets alicia into the canvas

Retarded cope. Listen to the sound effect when they show Maelle's face in the end. Maelle's ending is definitely the bad ending. I don't like it, but that's just the way they set it to be.

help maelle get the good ending

She helps the expedition defeat Renoir. Unless you think Maelle's ending is actually the good one in which case lmao

gustave comes back

lune gets to live a life beyond being a paintress reseracher

sciel gets her husband back

alicia gets to more than a cripple

verso gets punished for his treachery

lune gets to live a life beyond being a paintress reseracher

She's too autistic for that

Alicia's mind withers away and she becomes another Aline

Well done retard

she can get into music. Since the resident pianist is a bit difficult

better live life fully before dying than staying alive as crispy bacon

You are subjecting the inhabitants of the painting to be Alicia's puppets, as well as preventing the Dessandres from moving on from their loss - just so Alicia could get her fix.

I don't think everything was necessarily SIGNIFICANT, the train station is simply Verso's toy train that he wanted to add to his fantasy land. He likely played with Dog!Monoco and his trains, hence Monoco's Station.

I need an ending that ends even worse for the painters, i don't think they get enough comeuppance.
Maybe enslaved/hostages keeping the canvas alive

A new countdown for Lumiere is created, this time it's Maelle's death instead of Aline's

You forgot that one. They will have maybe another 40-50 years before Alicia kicks the bucket in the real world and Renoir destroys the painting.

look at these artifacts in this .gif file i stole from a thread on Anon Babble

gee

there should be an ending that has people go against painters in the real world, called "Life imitates Art"

renoir - forced to watch his wife and children get fucked silly

aline - slowly gets pieces amputated bit by bit

clea - gets fucked silly 24/7 by monster simon

verso - forced to play the piano

alicia - crowned queen and gets to be gustave and sophies daughteru, also supplies eggs since sophie has an empty egg carton by 34

I have to like whatever others like.

I have to consumre whatevet is popular.

Revenue is an indicator of quality.

Hello debcattle-kun, how's your day? Have you successfully fished for parasocial and peer-pressured your wretched kin today?

maellicia erasing painted alicia who wanted to die and then not honouring verso's wish to die indicates she only did it for painted alicia because she wanted to replace her as versos lil sis

another case of

woman moment

Verso is lying the entire game, how the fuck was she supposed to know if he was being truthful at the end.

Postgame is great but Maelle is simply too strong. I went into Renoir's Drafts underleveled (idk how much because the game doesn't give you a recommended range, but the entrance was still red and said Danger!) and Maelle STILL 1 shot both phases of Simon with no setup. I didn't use a mega cheesy auto-death party build to buff her. She just does 42-48 million damage off the rip with Stendahl. Simon might have been an incredible boss fight, but I'll never know because taking the damage cap off after Act 2 turns Maelle into a howitzer.

Maelle looks deranged

European

I wish there wasn't such a huge powergap between optional bosses and the final ending. I did everything before wrapping it up and was surprised to see Lumiere had the level 19 upgrade mats when the entire Act 3 had the higher level ones for me. And I assume Simon was meant to be the hardest boss?

media has themes

this is reddit garbage

what is an example of a non-slop game

this would exactly be just changing the label of "act 3" to "epilogue" and nothing else being different

i looked up a broken build on the internet and now the game isn't challenging

yeah you're clearly intended (gameplay-wise) to sprint straight to lumiere as soon as you hit act 3, but this isn't communicated anywhere, and there is extremely relevant plot details in e.g. the loyalty quests; slight design failure there in an otherwise stellar game
