Today I downloaded and ran an open source game. I heard a sound effect I thought was too loud. I found the file and brought it into audacity where I dialed it back. Then I dropped it back in and reloaded my game. I also thumbed through the Lua files to get a sense of how the game worked.
If this were on a console, I would have been nickel and timed, unable to tweak anything, and hated the experience all the while. I can't conceive of going back to a console. 360 was the last one, as far as I'm concerned.
