But this retard has a surface-level understanding of unreal engine, doesn't realize he has self-owned multiple times revealing he doesn't even read the unreal documentation, and hasn't provided an example he actually knows what he's talking about despite being called out by actual unreal devs. The video where he """optimized""" an unreal scene by... lowering the radius of all the lights, in a map specifically meant to have giant ass lights to stress test the new tech was hilarious. Then he tried to shit on nanite by importing a gigantic single-mesh scene into his level and saying "look at all the overdraw!" When again, the documentation says nanite (and lumen) both work best with segmented modular meshes and one giant mesh will incur performance problems. So not only is he a retard acting like he's smart, but he's actively spreading misinfo to other retards.

He ignored the fundamental core of nanite being that it's an all-or-nothing option. If you mix nanite and regular meshes (like he did in his video) every non-nanite mesh fucks with rendering and slows it down. You either make EVERYTHING in your scene nanite or you don't use it.
The advantage of nanite was always pay a base performance cost and then you no longer have to worry about draw calls or your scene complexity. A small scene without nanite will almost certainly run faster, that same scene crumbles as soon as you expand it and start adding many meshes or overlapping geometry. Plus you now have seamless LODs instead of needing to author them and try to hide pop-in.

A good example you could test yourself. Make 2 projects. Add in a small landscape and some rock meshes. The non-nanite scene might be running at 130fps, while the nanite one runs at 90fps. Now triple the landscape size and add a fuckton more rock meshes. Now the non-nanite scene is running at 30fps and the nanite one is still running at 90.

Because games don't do small scenes or level to level transitions much if at all anymore. Games want to do larger worlds, cooler setpieces, etc. You can say that the smaller scenes are better/more soulful etc but it doesn't matter. Nanite IS huge for the average game, but nothing has released yet on a current ue5 version that did everything by the book. There are probably several nearing the end of development now. We might see unreal running great, who knows.
