Outward

This games basically LOTR on roids & gives off massive atmosphere & mystery, why did it get so much hate at launch?

Outward .jpg - 1280x720, 180.53K

sauce of hate that isn't a simulation of AI generated conversations in your head?

World is empty and the gameplay is jank

Should've been called Inward.

because it is in fact a bad game

It exposed fags who hate Skyrim for good quality of life things like quest markers and showed why that shit is needed in an open world game.

Boring, jank gameplay, poor customization, poor direction, tedious resource management.
Gee I dunno

Wrong. Not why it's bad.
This is why. Markers has nothing to do with it.

Good aesthetic, great even, but let down by tedious and clunky mechanics.

it's a co-op game and Anon Babble has no friendos

jank gameplay

You can literally fine a two handed axe right from the starting town m8

b-but my weapon of choice

Not an argument

I liked the first area of the game, but the enemies get way too tanky as soon as you leave it.

Forgot to add fast travel too.

enemies have a poise bar

hitting them to 50% poise staggers them

hitting to 0% poise does absolutely nothing and makes it harder to reset back to 50% for stagger

What the fuck

fun gameplay was sacrificed for "muh realism" autism.

SHUT UP
FUCK YOU
YOU FUCKING DICK
ALWAYS NAYSAYING
EVERYTHING I CREATE
YOU PIECE OF SHIT
YOU CREATE SOMETHING
LIKE INWARD SINGING
YOU FUCKING SHIT
YOU FUCKING SIT IN YOUR TOWER
AND FUCKING NAP

I usually like these types of games but the combat felt shit in the beginning

heh

Face it. Anon Babble is filled with ADHD zoomers who cannot appreciate slow games anymore.

i quit

What's funny?
YOU FUCKING BITCH
FUCKING
FUCK YEAH
FUCKING
COCK ASS

based schizophrenic melty anon

garbage design philosophy
every system is antifun

the skill system with the limited class points/trainer bullshit is indefensible and there's way too much travel through areas youve already explored for a game with such slow move speed

I don't have to spend money or launch a game to hold down my w key and see fuck-all for 20 hours. I can do that right here.

wwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww hang on had to camp a second wwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww

Much like all asian content in existence, it was made by alien bugmen that don't understand how to human, and neither can they design a game to be played by humans. Rife with baffling nonsensical design choices. Sometimes you can sell it as authentic sugoi konichiwa niponoru creativity in game design (shitty games like Dark Souls / Bloodborne / Eldenring or Dragon's Dogma for example), but this one didn't get so lucky so it just kinda faded into obscurity.

This was made by Estonians or some shit

It never got any hate, just dismissal. It's a niche game for a niche audience.

But it's literally more along the lines of classic MMO games like Ultima Online or Pre Planes of Power Everquest m8

I liked it, waiting on news for 2

you hwha

It's a bad game all around. It's like they tried to copy dark souls and gothic without actually playing them, but reading stories on the internet about them. World is a mess. Quests are awful. Factions sucks. Balance is abysmal, half of things barely works, another half is useless. On top of that games look like half of it is store bought assets. Even geodata is shit. Anyone who call this game decent or good either lying, or never actually played games before. Or just clinically retarded nigger.

The music is great though, actually reminds me of that one MMO called Perfect World, combat feels a little heavy for what they were going for but it works once you get the flow going

Everything you said is wrong.

I never got that far before my PC died on me how did leveling up work?

Everything I said is right. I finished this shit on release in coop.

Doesn't the first village get destroyed in this if you don't do a quest or something within a certain amount of time and it's not explained at all? That probably pissed a lot of people off. I'm not saying a game can't have consequences like this, but your average player is used to being baby sat by games nowadays, you can't just blow them the fuck out within the first few hours like this.

While the aesthetic is good and the scale is nice the game world is just kind of fucking boring honestly.

This game is fucking terrible and I'm so thoroughly perplexed by why people keep shilling it. It's AWFUL

shill

It's one of the only handful of recent games that tried something completely different from other indie games & choose to harken back to hardcore RPGs anon

Yeah, you get one line about your seaside town being harassed by bandits then you can start the quest proper by going back home or making a beeline for the fortress itself

You need like 20 mods and local coop to make it an absolute kink experience.

Boring, jank gameplay, poor customization, poor direction, tedious resource management.

Literal, actual, skill issues.

Can't wait for the sequel.

This.
Also the survival aspects were neither comfy or hardcore, just a hassle. And dev's autism made magic and pistols painfully boring and needlessly retarded (and weak)

There's no leveling up, you get stronger by getting better gear and learning skills, either active ones, which are moves you can do, or passive ones, which are stat boosts.

Wait there were guns!?

It's all just people coming in with the wrong expectations and being disappointed when they get their shit pushed in despite being "good at videogames". Reminds me of that one review of this game I saw by a guy who in his review said he was good at dark souls and beat all three games multiple times but he got his ass kicked in this game and concluded that it's because the combat is impossibly difficult and not because he refused to learn how it works.

Ye olde pistols

What mods? I didn't even know Outward had mods

I liked some parts of it, and there were decent attempts at things like the survival aspect, but overall for a game supposedly about exploring and adventure you quickly discover that there is often very little to do so outside of a handful of instances. At least that was my main gripe with it.

As someone who beat the game and mostly liked it-

durability and other resource timers are mostly just an annoyance. Rather than being a legitimate gamplay feature you have to plan around they’re just a tax on everything you do

combat is too floaty and the lack of any normal hit stagger makes the flow of combat be either waiting for your abilities to recharge or waiting for your enemies to stop attacking

too many magic classes, not enough martial classes

resource gathering continues to be a pain in the ass even to end game

before the main quest is finished there’s a good chance you’ll already have your build mostly figured out so 90% of drops become completely useless (except for money which also loses most of its use around this point)

too much walking with too little happening. If the devs didn’t want to add fast travel or carriage rides or something, they should have at least populated the overworld more.

too many gank encounters when there are too few options to deal with multiple enemies. You end up having to kite most of the time which is unengaging

corruption punishes you for exploring (the whole point of the game)

lots and lots of bugs

Hah it was from IGN wasn't it?

More like Awkward
Neat concept but iffy execution
Poise system is just atrocious

No, it was some random dude on the internet, could have been a steam review, it was a user review is what I'm saying. The only reason I remember it is because of how much emphasis that guy put on him being good at dark souls, as if that was relevant.

It was shilled here at launch so I was immediately put off by it (real obvious paid shilling, not just friviously calling everything shilling like most anons)

shoulda been called n word

There's even a dedicated launcher with integrated mod browser, it's a one button download/enable thing

Tried to get into it but didn't really feel like there was anything worth working towards

I mean if this doesn't scream early 2000s jank then I don't know what to tell ya,you can literally wrap your weapons in frost lightning & fire poison that cool as ******!

Outward .jpg - 4410x2910, 1.38M

Midnight bump!

Markers is part of the problem. It's too hard to design a world map that you should be able to traverse by landmarks/direction alone and Outward's was especially empty and bad. Basically every single fault that Anon Babble has with Skyrim is why Outward is a bad game despite doing the opposite of.

Cope harder. Combat is dogshit. It might be the worst thing i had to endure in the genre. I love how once you deplete someones stamina and slam him to the ground he keeps moving and dodging. Or rolling away while clearly laying on the ground. In coop its the opposite. You can stagger enemies permanently and they wont be able to do shit.

locating yourself wasn't difficult at all if you used your brain a bit

Chersonese village had a lighthouse, also purple mountain was visible pretty much everywhere

Marsh had the extremely visible light beam coming from Monsoon

Desert city was on a hill visible for miles around

It wasn't difficult, but it also didn't add anything to the experience. I'd rather have quest markers and be done with it instead of having to look around a literally empty overworld with singular landmarks for dungeons/towns.

yeah nah fuck off with that quest marker bullshit, there are hundreds of those kind of games already. God forbid an open world doesn't have magic GPS or treasure chests every 10 feet

playing it with a friend

just running these enormous stretches of distance with literally nothing happening

getting insanely bored

decide to look up if there are horses, or vehicles, boats, literally anything because the travel alone is making us think we missed some major quest or something

"NO, HORSES DO NOT FIT THE GAME'S GRITTY AND REALISTIC VISION"

haha okay and just like that dropped entirely

I'm too dumb for it. Wasn't patient enough. Once I finally learned how to not die to the beginning wolves and bandits on the hardest difficulty, I soft locked myself in a difficult dungeon and was like welp, that's that. I'll probably give it another go at some point because it's world seemed interesting, it's background music was nice, but I've got too much in my backlog to be fuckin with this.

it's unnecessarily tedious in just about every aspect of the game
it's like the devs knew they didn't create anything fun, so they went out of the way to obscure the non fun gameplay with a shittonne of timewasting garbage in hopes that you don't realize just how boring the core is

im turned off by the idea that they thought making a fantasy world unique was as simple as turning normal generic-looking vegetation purple instead of green

I gave it a fair shake but ultimately a huge chunk of the gameplay isn't meaningful progression, just busywork for the sake of it combined with the classic trap MMOs fall into of "it gets good 30 hours in" as an excuse to have a very poor start to the game. The survival aspect isn't a challenge, it doesn't have depth and is ultimately just a means to fill up your backpack and slow the player down just because. It doesn't help that if one does look for something like a player's guide to see if the start can be more streamlined the answer is basically "go fuck yourself" isn't useful either.

The combat isn't satisfying because lmao hitboxes and the world itself is very boring to traverse with straight up nothing to find of note between the marked locations (towns, magical volcano etc). Even enemy spawns are basically nonexistant so it isn't even like shanking boars or something would engage the player in their travels.

I liked almost everything about it people hated except enemies having infinite stamina but that's a problem in most games hopefully the sequel fixes that

The "hardest difficulty" just makes it so that you have a 20% chance of losing your save when you get defeated, doesn't actually make the game harder, just makes fights more tense.

I don't read shit. Mostly I just got bomfed and woke up back in town or kidnapped by bandits or in some random cave after being raped I assume by some hobo.
