Modern is in a bit of an odd spot in that it potentially can help new players to learn the actual fundamentals such as spacing, poking and neutral in general as they are not as focused on inputs and combos, but eventually they'll hit a wall where even with Modern they will need to optimize combos and learn inputs, so Modern instead becomes an awkward alternative where you trade a part of your moveset for easier reaction supers and antiair DPs.

The whole point of DP motions is the risk involved in performing it, since it provides a greater reward in the form of an anti-air than the simple crouching HP or what have you.

I am terrible at fighting games, and I would say yes. I played SF6 at launch and managed to reach silver with a couple of characters online using the real controls (I'm pretty proud of that to show how much I don't excel at this genre) and nothing made me angrier than losing to people using the modern controls. They aren't even fun, it's just automated and basically plays itself. Impossible to counter unless you're genuinely great at the game or use the same BS control system.
