Here in Japan, watching anime isn't default state of mind and many dislike it as much as non-Japanese do. With having exact same thoughts about those who tend to watch anime. Japan isn't anime land, nor a place that magically loves it. At best, it's necessary evil due to being a media form that got popular outside of Japan, but it's still largely otaku thing (who are seen as losers).

The perception of anime/anime fans has been better in recent years (not seen as ultimate loser behavior), but that's the case with non-Japanese countries too.
