FFVII Remake stuff keeps getting news fed, and Cloud's Dub VA is apparently recording again
KH has been radio silent, and Missing Link cancelled
Nomura is also talking about Retiring
What the fuck is going on at Square?

Square dont like nomura getting bold about his versus 13 distaste
Man, once you replay most of the KH games and notice how many dropped character traits Sora, Riku, and Kairi have, you start to notice how poorly planned and managed the series is. Does anyone remember when CoM made Riku a sniffer?
I mean, how else could Riku fight blindfolded without heightened other senses?
Kingdoms Hearts is dogshit.
The problem is that he wasn't a sniffer in KH1, nor did he have any form of character development for him to stop being verbal about his sniffer side. Also, in DDD he's awkward around girls, apparently, which doesn't make sense as well.
maybe hes tired of making the same fucking game over and over
They're working on IV, they announced it.
Nomura is also talking about Retiring
Finally
Anon, Riku is in full fucking angst mode in DDD and doesn't start to let up until a little over halfway through. And that gets quickly replaced having to bail out Sora. He's not being awkward because "oh gosh, a girl", he's being awkward because he isn't used to people in general again and has a shit ton on his mind the entire time.
KH1 Riku would have NWF'd her on the spot
Red heads are Sora's and Riku's kryptonite. Just wait until Riku meets Strelizia she'll have that dark boy in the palm of her hands. She will immediately look at him and say that "I can fix him."
I always assumed it was a mistranslation and they meant sense like he detects darkness or something
absolute Expedition 33 win that btfo squeenix bitches into the darkest timeline
holy kekerino! I kneel based frogs, I kneel
Riku puts his hand to his nose when talking to Namine.
Does anyone remember when CoM made Riku a sniffer?
Lmao it was just a shitty translation of sense/feel
They probably have the same body odor or use the same shampoo.
Frankly KH4 was too much to ask so soon after KH3 when it was announced, never mind that Nomura still needed to get the FF7 Remake trilogy done first. But considering he genuinely seemed to want to complete Versus XIII within KH4, the man's biting off way, way, WAY more than he could ever possibly hope to chew for two major projects, which is also probably why Nomura didn't direct Rebirth and is more of a consultant role while he's full steam ahead on KH.
Honestly, he just needs to get his shit together and not be so fucking autistic about a game project that was a mix of him thoughtlessly floundering about and his spare time being devoured by other FF projects Square was fucking up.
Back then Squaresoft could juggle so much stuff at once, what happened? Is it a video game development expenses issue?
Riku would sniff comatose Kairi while Maleficent watches
not many people were even asking for KH4 to be revealed that soon, they just did it out of nowhere
Not all of it was Nomura's fault though. He didn't even know he was going to directing FFVII Remake until he saw the damn trailer. Also, while Nojima was the main writer, Nomura was the one chosen to the ending of the trilogy.
It wasn't a mistranslation. Riku uses the word for smell in japanese(nioi) a lot in CoM.
Meant Nomura was chosen to write the ending.
various daylife
What a terrible title, even by Squeenix standards. Seriously, what were they thinking
It's a mix of various complications.
Squaresoft budgets soar but they were bleeding talent and staff for a variety of reasons and hemorrhaging money because only Final Fantasy REALLY sold
buy-out from Enix occurs, now they have more money to pour into their shit and finish some various things on the side up
proceed to produce their own proprietary in-house engines while severely lacking ideas, direction and figuring what the hell they're actually doing with these engines
shit requires everyone to go all-hands-on-deck for Final Fantasy 13, and then again for Final Fantasy 14 post-1.0 failure
now they have Crystal Tools which no one wants to use anymore after the headaches it made, besides Toriyama who made two sequels to 13, and the CBU3 team for 14 2.0 who basically only know Crystal Tools at this point
and Luminous Engine which a different team would harness as a spinoff from Crystal Tools which became the basis of Final Fantasy 15 and Forspoken in the hands of literally the only single team using that branch (now defunct)
after all that engine drama, FF7R and KH3 forced multiple teams to sit down and partner with Epic Games for a while directly so they could understand programming and development on Unreal Engine 4 just to unfuck their pipeline that was clogged up to the brim
And all the way through this entire mess, HD and increasing budgets + asset quality + voice acting + cinematic CGI kept raising how much time it actually makes to get anything worth a damn done, crippling their production output for anything not remasters or lower-budget titles.
Only working with Nintendo can save Square now. Gacha was helping for a bit, but then big Gacha from China like Genshin Impact came, so standards were raised, and no one cares anymore.
No no you got a point, but it kinda contradicts with FF7 Remake existing
Never mind all of that, Dragon Quest XII just has a logo, no gameplay or trailer
FFVII Remake's Twist was about how it was actually a sequel with the Whispers and Sephiroth affecting alternate Worlds. Original Sephiroth's goal was to absorb the lifestream and become a god. Remake Sephiroth is this on a mutliversal scale.
Probably Missing Link got canceled to just focus on KH4 since the gacha department in general is not doing well at Squeenix
They should really return to just doing $30 to $40 spinoff games again like the GBA to 3DS years if they want to keep doing gaiden games that eventually circle back into the normal plot, KH3 partially relying on a now defunct gacha game was a horrible move in the long term
Some people have smell kinks and are turned on by scents and pheromones
Only working with the company the only allows their first and second party to find any success can save Square now
SE is retarded, but surely they're not THAT retarded. Multiplatform AA scaled games is what their focus should be on.
Kairi is barely a character
No, it was never about ruling all the extra worlds and shit like a god in that sense for Remake. They used Ever Crisis to expand his backstory of his SOLDIER days and he's basically a traumatized wreck that wants to save the fucked up world his way or the highway, and while he was sociopathic snapped in the original story, in the remake trilogy he's using the various alternate worlds to branch and test a number of ideas of his influence to see how he can make the perfect world for his vision. Destruction is only a side effect or alternative outcome, because this is post-AC Sephiroth so now he wants a very different approach and goal where becoming that God will allow him to make destiny and the Planet his own.
Blame Kitase and Nojima trying to rework and expand Sephiroth from an insane crazy genocide dude to this.
part 3 of remake is being made. VA is usually one of the first things they do
When will they fuse KH and TWEWY?
KH's story can't survive on its own
TWEWY can't work because no one likes the series beside a small number of people who grew up with the DS game.
They met in DDD and currently Sora is chilling in Shibuya, so who knows.
I also think it had to do with Squaresoft firing lots of their creative talent
Replaying them made me appreciate the first game so much more.
Square Enix is still convinced that Final Fantasy is the CoD of JRPGs, that needs yearly releases. This has been actively fucking the company over since FF15 because they keep ignoring all their other IPs that have been far more successful
Nomura started talking about how he wants this next saga to be shorter and if I remember right he said he also wants it to be the last one. I also wouldn't take Missing Link being cancelled as the end of it, they're probably pivoting it to a proper retail game considering they already had a working beta people played and that was like two years ago.

I imagine KH5 will be the last game with maybe one or two interim games at best, and then Nomura retires. Then we either get the same concept but entirely revamped with new characters, a new world, and so on from someone else because I doubt Disney themselves want it to die.
If you're here, I don't have an issue with having to swap to new sleights or strategies, my issue is that many sleights are just so much worse in general compared to how they were in GBA due to the 3D arena thanks to the large space you have to deal with. This is especially apparent with all the -ga spells. Fights are also absolutely worse in Re:CoM because of the giant arenas letting you straight up just ignore entire boss sleights by dodge rolling or running diagonally without having to participate in the card game unlike GBA.
Didn't Chi itself specifically have MDG in it and that was before the Data Daybreak Town stuff and the Book of Prophecies? Obviously the KHUX stuff is just data but I could have sworn there were interactions between Player and the original Chi crew with MDG. Maybe I'm just remembering that wrong.
Which one do you want for life?
Aqua.
Xion isn't pictured, so Olette.
Nomura has a tendency to drop things or shoehorn in his new ideas whether it makes sense or not. Since BBS Vanitas was always the darkness in Ven’s heart manifested and it was the same deal in KH 3. In the mobile shit they retconned this and Vanitas was basically his own entity and possessed Ven. Nomura then went with the new canon for ReMIND which makes no sense because the base KH 3 and ReMIND have different canons for Vanitas and it’s the same fucking game. Nomura just can’t control his autism sometimes
Why the fuck didn’t Square just make a traditional KH game for mobile? Why make it a retarded gacha Pokemon Go game? Nomura had to know this concept would not work. And I was actually looking forward to the story. The mobile games despite being gacha bullshit hands down had the best story and writing in the entire series. Fuck man. We better at least get the cutscenes
they'll probably integrate it into something or another, a lot of work was done on it after all and it was too crucial for what it was presenting to probably just get lolexemption from KH4's plot
but all we got is beta footage / assets and some music now

Missing Link cancelled
Wait really?
When did that happen?
I am guessing Riku smelling darkness was only a thing in CoM, because of how smells are tied to memories.
At like 4-5 central time this morning. No one knows why inherently yet beyond the public statement, but presumably murdered with the rest of Square's disinterest in gacha now.
Because Squeenix keeps throwing mobile games at the wall to see what sticks and becomes a live service they can rely on like FFXIV. Final Fantasy Record Keeper was one such example, and they kept KHUX on for like four or five years. Go look at how many FF7-tie-in mobile games they released that EoS'd year one.
Based
This is just awkward dialog, period.
Wtf?
Kinda based since gachas are cringe.
I never liked how they replaced the low budget handheld titles, but can't blame them since handhelds are pretty much dead.
See? I think the mistranslation thing was made by some retarded YouTuber who said it was a mistranslation, but in reality it wasn't.
Yeah, it just disappeared after CoM, not even a character snarking, joking or referencing it later. You can tell Chain of Memories was still in the "Nomura has ambitions but no solid ideas just yet" phase, and it's probably one of the most blatant growing pains for ideas games. Same with Dream Drop Distance basically existing to shoehorn together time travel and some lingering plot threads to ram its own asshole into setting up KH3 really, really halfheartedly, only for KH3 to basically render it moot in execution anyway.
She will immediately look at him and say that "I can fix him."
Strelitzia is Player-sexual though. She'd never betray him even 80ish years later.
final Chad

How did we go from this...
...to this?
KHML is officially cancelled too btw
Another Nomurathat spent over 5 years in development cancelled
Nomura might an hero
Didn't dying light 2 come out???
They likely don't have any talented devs yet that aren't completely glued to AAA projects.
So now that Cross whatever is shit canned, how is this going to affect KH4? Nomura and SE were hyping it up as something important to the plot of KH4, and we know Nomura's obsessive need to make everything important to canon.
Dying Light is SE
The fuck?
Now that you say it, it's even funnier how half of it is outdated info. Updated.
Dunno how that works either.
Missing Link was supposed to explain the interim period after everyone gets split up at the end of KHUX but before the school shooting at Scala and was supposed to focus on people like Brain who got brought back to Scala via what looked like time travel shenanigans. Brain in particular is important because Luxu body snatched him at the end of KHUX before eventually body snatching Braig years later so we have no idea what he was doing in between that either.
It's likely they turn ML into a proper Re: game because of just how much work was done already even years ago (See the video I posted which is the entire beta) and how the gameplay already looked like a regular KH game just with the medal system from KHUX acting as special attacks and for all intents and purposes made it look like a command deck game. They could turn it into a functional game, particularly because it was based on UE4 if I recall correctly so porting shouldn't be an enormous issue and they can just sell the thing.
Have the full datamines been posted anywhere yet?
it was based on UE4 if I recall correctly
the last CBT was on unreal engine 5.3
So then yeah, they at least have an avenue to port it if they put in the effort to it. I don't see why they'd flush all that work down the drain when the game could functionally work as a console release with some minor rebalancing to account for controllers instead of touch screens.
Naminè of course
fugtrupp when
