I think the combination of animal raising to then do the farming for you is fun. I think the cohesion of all the different kinds of gameplay becoming one thing is neat even if it's not better than how it was in most other games.

SVE is good for the added forage forest, Andy's Farm, Sophia's Vineyard, and Susan's farm. Even then, I barely see them in town to interact with them. The mine entrance relocation, new craftables, and post-game areas I hate. Ridgeside I hate the most. NPC bloat. You can't do that content alongside the main content in any natural feeling manner. So you either do it first or do it second, so the pacing always feels off. After that, I gave up on overhauls. I just want small mods that enhance the content we already have.

Alot of farming games neglect a very simple aspect but it ends up being subconsciously detrimental to the games. The way the crops LOOK especially when there are big swaths of crops all next to eachother. In stardew, theyre packed very tight and the sprites overlap eachother often, ontop of also being mirrored sometimes. This makes a 15x15 plot of corn look amazing in game, and it only looks better when you get the 3tile range sprinklers. Most other games have the plots so separated and the sprites so small that your farmland will always look like it's 50% dirt. Seriously, take a look at most farm sims on steam right now and you'll see what I mean. Fucking dirt simulator. I dont want to look at my farm and be able to distinguish each individual plot of plantable dirt. I've only seen two(2) games total that do this right other than SDV. One is cornucopia, which has a 2.5D style and the crop sprites, similarly, overlap quite often. And Luma Island, which is 3d-ish and has really good LOOKING farming models, but the actual game is very much not a farming game. It's more of a puzzle and craftslop game. I refunded it when I realized every crop grows in a day.

It's not about speedrunning, it's about actually playing the game and not waiting to do what you want to do.

Have you not played the game? The bundle rewards are the only town progression in the game and nearly all of them have seasonal goods. You can get locked out of festivals, huge quality of life, gameplay mechanics, crops, dungeons etc. for a year just for missing something.

I think it would be pretty nice if there was a bonus to getting married that wasn't just the stardrop and sometimes having your crops watered. At least with mods you can have them feed the animals instead, but it is still pretty bare. Having them do their own business stuff to supplement the income, or perhaps giving you a unique buff would be good. Especially if they all do different things.

I feel like there's already too much bloat for the food buff-wise. Unless you just happen across it and need it in the moment, you're not going to make or eat most of the foods in the game. Even if you were to try to give each drink a property, most would go unused. Speed and Luck would get focused on while every other buff ignored. You would need the drinks to unlock special abilities or do special things for it to have a purpose. Coffee already does speed, ginger ale already does luck.

I'd love for an Eric Barone made expansion focusing on the idea of providing your produce to the town through farmer's markets. A Recettear style mini game for haggling and laying out your product inside a shed or in stands outdoors. Then you could learn more about the villagers tastes in one-on-one conversations that aren't just you passing by each other around town. Dumping all our produce into a shipping bin feels too impersonal. Especially when there's no supply and demand or quotas to meet to feed the valley.

There's a mod that adds sprinklers that shoot only in one direction. If CA changed the tier 1 sprinkers to 3 spaces in front of them, they would actually get some use. Everyone just waits for tier 2.

Meadowlands is really nice. Good aesthetics and decent farm space. My favorite of the vanilla maps.
Forest is cozy, but lacking farm space.
Beach is fun for a challenge, but I think it looks ugly.
Standard is ugly and would benefit from the tillable land being grass, but most farms would.
Wilderness is a bad choice because of how useless the water is.

Bingo. 1.6 helped Year 2 a lot with diversifying the event layouts and dialogue, but the game really needs more to do. There are other artifacts you can select that give different bonuses, as well as choosing your origin via remembering who your parents were. If you were the son of a farmer, for example, you would start with extra sneeds for that season and a pair of sprinklers. If you were the son of an orchard keeper, your island would start with dedicated portions of land with a few already grown fruit trees
