I loved the parts system.
I could choose if I wanted my B-Dasher to have gray tires, purple tires, or the original B-Dasher tires from Mario Kart DS.
I would have loved for them to double-down on the parts system, but have it be where you can design preset karts. Kind of how like emblems were in their own menu.
I would have loved for a kart designer much like the Automation car company tycoon game, and you can design the body, and then explore the world to unlock more parts or body presets.
I would love to be able to design multiple different versions of the B-Dasher.

Mario Kart DS didn't ask you to edit your emblem before starting the game.

It works better for DS, because everybody playing has their own copy of the game. On console not so much, the game will be owned by one or two people while everybody else shares it. They'll come over, say "Hey, why do you get a special kart? Go back and make me one too!" and that special kart might end up being shit, you gotta go and do it again, etc. At least for Smash controls are a pretty constant thing, that isn't nearly as time consuming.
