Unironically the best and least clunky combat in the series
Unironically the best and least clunky combat in the series
Real time stat-based combat are always clunky in some way. Morrowind is probably the only correct example, everything makes perfect sense when you think about it.
Unironically i would rather do real time dice roll combat than melee combat in oblivion/skyrim. I can enjoy oblivion.skyrim now that i realized melee combat will never be good in them but casting is OK.
cherry picking reviews makes my argument better than i ever could
fucking KEK. a great scholar among skyrim fans you are!
Arena is better than Shitwind.
Daggerfall is better than Shitwind.
Oblivion is better than Shitwind.
Skyrim is better than Shitwind.
TES Online is better than Shitwind.
sorry to hear you got filtered. Maybe more brain cells will grow in when you get out of elementary school.
Based
wish bethesda would just ape jedi academy combat
TES Online is better than Shitwind.
You went too far with this one
least clunky
This is actually true. Way faster and easier to play than other TESs.
If that were true, playing melee in Morrowind wouldn't suck dick
What does this prove?
That he loves cock.
It doesn't suck. Just spam M1. It's easy and fast, none of that stagger bullshit for the most part.
trannywind
doing a hlaalu quest where you have to sabotage a prisoner's rescue
find lady who I'm supposed to be working with to rescue the prisoner
she puts an amulet of invis on the table
ah, I see how I can sabotage this mission
get all the NPCs in the room to face away from me and the amulet
go invisible with a potion
game says I'm 100% hidden
use telekinetic scroll
grab it from 40 feet away
DIE FETCHER (you have been expelled from Hlaalu)
fucking seriously?? There is literally no possible way I could do it more perfect and sneakily.
reload it 10 times
keeps happening
bust out the command prompt and boost my sneak level
finally lets me get away with it
reset it back to what it was before
I feel bad, but I shouldn't. Sneak is so retarded in Morrowind.
Taking an action breaks invisibility. You wanted 100% chameleon instead (which is much harder to achieve magically than invisibility).
It proves that the series became more plebian over time. I don't know why that anon posted that.
Any good openmw modding tutorials out there?
Google mod openmw and choose a mod list.
No like making mods.
*BRAAAAAP* *BLUB BLUB BLUB BLUB* *BRAAAAp*
White Men only, troons can't into Morrowinds ruleset
It's literally the most tranny-friendly of the games, it's the New Vegas of TES games
Not Sload_watermark.mp4
faggot
Nah :^)
Told i need to help some fetcher do a quest for house hlaalu where he has to sabotage a prisoner's rescue
He comes to see me to begin planning
put an amulet of invis on the table to remind me to use it later
me and my friends turn our back on this guy for 2 seconds
next thing we know hes no where to be seen, day immediately improved
my magic amulet starts sliding along the table and floating across the room
my eyes follow its trajectory and some 40 feet away is that fetcher eyes fixated on my amulet, mouth open with hand outstretched, using telekenisis
Yell at him and start chasing
he screeches that he is invisible and we cant see him, then runs away
Daggerfall>Oblivion=Skyirm>Morrowind>Arena
Any other order is trolling, contrarian, or a Zoomer larping
I don't care about your filename inside jokes faggot
Heckin true and, I dare say, based.
Congrats on coming out as trans, annonette! ;*
Bro you used Tele scroll after invis so you weren't invisible
Tele > invisible > take
Trannywind fan is a redditor secondary
No surprises there
Sorry i have a soul and prefer hand placed over procedural slop.
Samefag tranny obsessed has been spamming these threads for weeks. Safe to ignore, they just want to discord alog all day.
there's not a lot of reason games with realtime 3D combat need a hit table but at least its better than 2000 hp toddrim draugr
That he's a normalfag because he thinks popular = good
the combat is fine. it's the exact same spam M1 shit that every other TES game is.
Dscord alog
Seething ESL can't stand being rightfully called out, you hate to see it
He doesn't know how Daggerfall was made and fell for the randomized meme
Embarrassing
so true bestie, here's hoping tes vi is more like daggerfall and starfield!
Reminder that the Nevereverareveravine is canonically a dunmer.
Nords will seriously look at this and think "wife"
wrong, he's canonically an orc
Reminder that the Nevereverareveravine is canonically a magical negro.
directional combat
but its fucking diceroll
Why couldn't they just make it like mount and blade?
Starfield is nothing like Daggerfall. We're already getting a sequel to Daggerfall though so there's no reason to care about whatever shit modern Bethesda slops out
muh missing
just level up your skill retard
that's not even what I meant dumbass. We could've had physics jank kino for the whole series, but instead something visually very boring
Absolute retard, or more likely just baiting with a fake opinion.
We're already getting a sequel to Daggerfall
You're getting a sequel in the same way Star Citizenfags are getting their Wing Commander sequel.
Going through Karthwasten and Dragonstar again makes me appreciate Cyrodil a lot more. I constantly stutter when wondering through Karthwasten when I could walk around Anvil completely smooth. There's far less interseting rewards like in ruins and quests and the dungeons also have a lot less variety. Hopefully the Markarth update whenever it drops elevates Skyrim more.
Is it the grass?
Battlespire>all
They should just have an RPG with no levels, just RNG and maintenance.
Best Elder Scrolls by far.
That's what I suspect. There's a lot less foliage in general in the Strident Coast compared to the different regions of the Reach. Does make me worry about how performance will be once they start getting into the jungle areas of Cyrodil.
physics based melee combat in and open world game in 2002
yeah right, lol
I look like this and I say this
Orcs aren't even people.
Yes, starfield is exactly like daggerfall.
nothing outside of the MSQ and a few quests are handmade in daggerfall.
No, it's not a sequel even if it has (some) of the original developers behind it.
No mer are people.
As a Morrowind enjoyer, you are full of shit.
Morrowind is plenty clunky, and I despise Bethesda for constantly amputating clunk instead of smoothing it properly.
you've clearly never actually played Daggerfall. the vast size of the world is actually important to the mechanics of the game because it forces you to actually think about how long travel takes. quests are timed so you have to take that into account, for example you might have 6 days to complete a quest but it takes you 4 days to get there so you have to factor that in. do you set out immediately, or spend 2 days preparing?
Starfield doesn't have any depth to it like that, the world is just massive for the sake of it. and you have to spend a bunch of time just walking through empty space, where Daggerfall expects you to make use of fast travel mechanics.
Oblivion>morrowind
lol. not even close.
I learned today the Orcs are such subhumans that they can understand kobold grunts.
I don't get why you cant have modern skyrim combat with stat based dice roll damage. I also wish they'd slap perk trees on top of the attribute system. I have to wait for skyblivion to see how that would go.
Cause it's no fun to miss.
you've clearly never actually played Daggerfall.
Wrong, I've got a good 80~ hours into it this year alone.
the vast size of the world is actually important to the mechanics of the game because it forces you to actually think about how long travel takes.
Grug open map click travel to, load in 2 seconds clock say 3 weeks have passed.
quests are timed so you have to take that into account,
For the randomly generated quests to the randomly chosen pool of locations in the randomly generated dungeon. and shit MSQ no one does
Starfield doesn't have any depth to it like that
The best you can come up with is saying traveling takes time? That's your depth? Gonna cite the language skills that have a minute chance of doing nothing useful next? Starfield is largely randomly generated slop with next to no thought put into it like the vast majority of daggerfall.
I like daggerfall, fun game with cool ideas despite its limitations but it's not this 3000IQ product you're selling it as, it's insanely limited to what they originally wanted to do and previous developers in old ass blogs went into detail over it.
I like Morrowind a lot but the combat is pretty meh compared to Skyrim. It has cooler situations to get into or scenarios to deal with but as a whole general game play can be vexing. Axes can be obnoxious if you're used to swords and prone to doing stabbing maneuvers and I remember spears in particular feeling pretty awkward to attack with. Marksman has a lot of tools but crossbow or bow are the only ones that typically matter since the damage of throwing stars and darts are pretty pathetic unless you get really lucky with some enchanted ones. Magic is fun until you hit the unlucky russian roulette on a daedra and their innate 20% reflect or late game wizards who do much the same and blows you up unless you are running a spell absorb build/resist magicka build (which to be fair, you almost certainly will be in the late game regardless). I don't think Skyrim has particularly marvelous combat either, with it's magic gameplay being incredibly subpar and it's melee gameplay doesn't have any real depth but I still manage to put more hours into it despite being an inferior game in terms of story and general setting. That's just my opinion though.
"Daggerfallfans"
How many have actually played the original non unity version?
put on "use best attack" if you find using spears awkward. directional attacks are pretty much just an optional difficulty, they dont add much more.
As much as I'd love to play a game at 15fps 480p on a 1440p monitor with only my keyboard.
Hard pass.
t. daggerfall(unity) fan
I did. There's no reason to try to gatekeep an objectively worse experience of the same game. Might as well pretend the xbox version is the only correct way to play morrowind.
Not the best analogy since Morrowind first came on PC
The analogy has nothing to do with time and everything to do with user experience being hampered for no gain. So no, that's wrong.
Causalcore
The unity version has an option to simplify Daggerfall's notoriously labyrinthine dungeons, meaning that this is one situation where there's a actually good argument for "you didn't beat the game."
whos gonna win this slugfest?
Scamps are pretty dogshit so I'm putting my bets on the guards.
the scamps are slowly winning because the guards hits dont do damage. at least i think.
Was expecting more from the house telvanni quests, its like 2 dungeons and then just more in town fetch quests. My favorite characters so far though. I really enjoyed the few TR quests I tried but I feel like once im done with the main quest i will be too OP to have any fun.
You are supposed to go to tr lands immediately, on level 1
But I want to be the nerevarine and have azura call me a good boy :(
does anything in the mainland rival the actual main quest in length?
Unironically the best and least clunky combat in the series
That's actually Daggerfall, although MW combat is fine
These are decent depending on what you're looking for, since they're like the only tutorials that actually go through some of the more complex features of OpenMW in detail. I was banging my head against a wall trying to figure out how to do a custom race before stumbling onto one of these.
youtube.com
Scamps are immune to "normal" damage so yeah.
The click and drag melee combat of the classic release? Gets old fast.
Daggerfall Unity's click or hold options? Yeah it beats Morrowind because it's the diceroll combat but with better feedback and looks less awkward.
There's a recommended mod that slows down levelling a fair bit for people worried about getting too juiced while playing TR.
Might want to look into it.
Also you need to completely deplete stamina in order for hand to hand to deal actual damage
Hand to hand is a meme in morrowind
No, it is because... because I just know it is, okay?
I accept your concession
Cute youtuber opinion. Thanks for outing yourself as a liar and a secondary, we can all ignore you now!
Unity is the same game, just not buggy and runs on modern hardware effectively. This is a fake distinction to try and undermine the last truly great TES game before they all became chosen one prophecy slop (Which started with Morrowind, by the way)
Citing game critics
Citing metacritic
trying to paint morrowind as a flop when it literally saved bethesda from bankruptcy because it was so well received and was the second most sold xbox game of all time behind halo
Put hand-to-hand in your major skills, actually take fights that way from the start instead of relying on weapon and see how quickly it actually becomes way powerful. It's useless if you don't major in it, but absolutely can carry you through the game because you start slapping the stamina out of everyone so fast, leaving them helpless to continue fighting.
expecting numberfag shitposter to understand history or nuance
You are so mentally inept that you cannot fathom anything except bigger number gooder. There is zero chance that you aren't on disability as are all metacritictards.
I agree and its not a joke. Combat in Oblivion is miserable and youre constantly bouncing around getting your screen shaken.
That's the genius of Morrowind, you're not the chosen one because you were chosen, but because you worked hard to fulfill the role you were chosen for. It has been thousands of years since Nerevar died and countless others have arguably been chosen, yet failed to live up to the role. Additionally, you can quite easily fail, and undo the prophecy, and yet still succeed and complete the main quest. This is not possible in Skyrim nor Oblivion. You cannot fail, it is impossible. You cannot succeed in any way besides that pre-ordained.
I am not Nerevar. I am not immortal, I am not immune to disease, no tribe calls me Nerevarine, no house calls me Hortator. I am a Nord that got fed up with the shithole I got shipped off to and took matters into my own hands. Turns out you don't have to be a magical elf reincarnated to fix things. Azura showed up after I killed Dagoth just to save face and try to get some Nord dick.
pairs very well with conjuration right away
Lumping together Morrowind's writing on the same tier as Oblivion and Skyrim is extremely disingenuous and you know it.
Review scores and sales numbers, you sure showed OP anon. We only care about critical opinion and sales here.
5 years between 4 and 5
15 years since Skyrim
We should've had 6 and 7 by now, and no ESO doesn't county
Sorry Todd was too busy making awful fallout games and slopfield to actually work on the franchise that puts most of the food on the table
its been like 4 years since the last release of skyrim and oblivion just re-dropped. clearly they are finished with new things.
It's wild that compared to games made 20 years ago, games now have ballooned to 50x the budget, 5x the production time, and can make use of hardware that's infinitely more powerful, and yet they all are miserably inadequate.
probably less % of total budget spent on game production but possibly more spent on non-game programming work too? like they didn't own gamebryo and now they do and its still awful and its basically locked in buggy state forever because it's unfixable code-wise.
Inflated budget and production time along with better hardware have created a lot of complacency with developers of today compared to back then where people operated with much stricter budget, time and hardware limitations
Nah, there's no way. For starters the same pattern exists in studios that don't use an in house engine. Oblivion had a budget of $10 million. It's nuts.
No, it's the same shit. A little bit of fluff where you can say "nuh-uh, I don't think I'm the chosen one" doesn't matter when you literally do what the chosen one is supposed to do. In fact Oblivion is the only of the later games to subvert this since Martin is the actual chosen one and you're his right-hand man. The amount of mental gymnastics you fags go to to justify the same tired plot of "evil cult wants to destroy the world, a god's favorite hero stops them" because you like dust and bugs so much is just embarrassing
here is the prophecy
nah I don't fulfil any of it, I'm going to kill Vivec for being a fag and then go kill Dagoth for fucking up the place too
Cry about it bitchboy.
Daggerfall was shit then and it's still shit now
Pretty fun though
Holy mother of bait.
No I don't fulfill the prophecy, except I go and do the exact thing it says
Azura literally shows up and calls you a good little story cuck for doing it. Killing important NPCs gives you the message that this whole thing is part of the eave of fate. You are the bitch of prophecy even if you try and pretend otherwise.
Meanwhile Daggerfall actually lets you make a choice, and has a story with actual narrative beats and proper intrigue that isn't about saving the world at all.
Congratulations on your transition though. Maybe you can tell us about your New Vegas playthrough next
Cope morrotranny, if a game is good it will sell more and review better.
Very early in the game I acquired a Devil Spear, which I either bought from Ra'Virr or looted from some low level tomb. It casts Bound Spear and places a devastating conjured weapon in your hands, and the only limitation is that it will run out of charge eventually, a limitation that makes no meaningful difference to anything because in Morrowind you can recharge such items merely by resting. With this spear and some cheap medium armour, I became unstoppable at the very beginning of my adventuring career. Kite backwards and thrust, thrust, thrust: no bandit king and no daedric monster could overcome my recondite master strategy.
So it's too easy, is what I'm saying. I love to explore the land and soak in the ambience, but not even M'aiq the Liar would say that there's good combat here.
Azura literally shows up and calls you a good little story cuck for doing it.
Of course she did, she wants Nord dick to split her in half.
Killing important NPCs gives you the message that this whole thing is part of the eave of fate.
No shit nigger, and what does it say about that? That I severed it. The prophecy is over. The world is doomed. I am not Nerevar and never can be. I'm not a surprised a Daggerfall glazer is stuck on this point, proving it for me but trying to use it as a gotcha-you've never played Daggerfall or Morrowind and are a faggot bitch who can't read.
SPBP
Any recommended TR questlines? I've got
Almas Thirr Temple
Old Ebonheart Thieves Guild
Bal Foyen Fighters Guild, Thieves Guild, Temple
Narsis Mages Guild
Aimrah
Been doing a bunch of random quests in the new expansion and most of them are just ok but I'm getting bored. Ja-Natta syndicate and legion was ok but east empire quests and hlaalu quests have been putting me to sleep. Oh and Akamora quests were shit I dunno why people recommended it besides the daedric involvement in the fighter's guild.
why do trannies love morrowind so much Anon Babble?
yeah that is adequate, theres a lot of factors to base combat like stagger and block and shit too but devil spears are good shit.
the combat do be fire tho (fr fr)
dunno, theyre better at games than normies and have a narcissistic autism so i'd guess its an antisocial elitist self-aggrandizement.
Is there an OpenMW command to force an NPC to talk to you? ForceGreeting doesn't work. I'm trying to get Tholer Andas to talk to me and he's just bricked. And yes I got an appointment with him and I'm involved with an important Hlaalu quest with him. Still wont talk to me.
Filter this filename? 674 results of the same filename being used with varying OP narratives. Unless they're saving it from somewhere specific?
arch.b4k.dev
Every SINGLE one of these results are instantly followed up with the same obvious schizophrenic bait.
Morrowind is one of my favorite games ever made and I love everything about it including the combat, but I wouldn't say that it's not clunky. I'd just say it's clunky and I love it anyway.
Yeah he makes the thread then samefags a bunch of shit seething about Morrowind.
Yeah, okay. Honestly tempted not to, because it more often than not ends up generating quality discussion anyways. Much to his schizophrenic disdain. Is he aware that he's promoting more positive discussion about Morrowind than negative?
No I don't think any of the schizos on Anon Babble know that nobody gives a flying fuck about their autistic non-argument ramblings. Literally yelling at clouds.
lol true
i havent read an OP in 20 years
It's just so snappy and straight forward. I can't believe how annoying the staggering mechanics are in Oblivion.
Morrowind>Skyirm>Daggerfall>Oblivion
skyrim is and has always been gay trash for zoomers and normies
Favorite part about a high hand-to-hand is that you can somewhat reliably crowd control with the stamina drain and fast attack speed. Though that might just be because I'm using a mod that makes your fists faster with your hand-to-hand skill.
No one's saying it's not an absolute step down from better WRPGs, but it is absolutely still a great gateway drug. I wouldn't have discovered Morrowind a few years back were it not for having played Skyrim longer ago.
Dagoth Ur only has long hair in his concept art
no long hair in game or in the card game art
Huh
I had forgotten Mannimarco had this red cape in Daggerfall, I kept wondering where AllinAll got his design from.
Lots of people are saying that it is. Mostly zoomies.
BASED
Combat in Morrowind sucks
Mindlessly slapping enemies with a wet noodle hundreds of times is much better combat
Explain yourself faggots.
You should have someone explain the game mechanics to you first.
every entry in the franchise is wildly different in scope and aim and it's extremely pointless to discuss them together. unironically just have fun.
It's in the manual.
It doesn't ever state what the numbers really mean.
Just "more charge is more damage".
It's not like Always Use Best Attack is enabled by default or something. I'm sure you've walked in different directions while attacking before.
They wanted to implement even more stealth shit for the rescue bit too but they cut it cos was too buggy so instead you can just openly stroll past the guards.
Hopefully they'll go back and add alternate ways to complete it via speechcraft or something.
more charge is more damage
Yes that's exactly what it means. What's your misunderstanding? If you spam click you get the lowest damage, if you hold and then release you get the max damage.
Right, but you also just failed to explain how it works.
Are you illiterate?
Not really. A few seconds of 100% Chameleon can be done with a halfway-decent Illusion level.
You made no mention of how the swing recovery time relates to the damage range of the duration the attack is charged.
To achieve the maximum damage you need to conform to a rhythm where your charge time and recovery time equalize.
It's never mentioned anywhere, and you also neglected to mention it. You simply parroted "more charge is more damage" which is only partly correct.
Morrowind is the only good TES game
Everything else has been dragged down by absolutely delusional Bethesda ideas
Morrowind was saved from having radiant quests, radiant ai or some other shit because 3d technologies were quite limited at that time and Bethesda was forced to make a proper game and not some procedurally generated rubbish
reminder if you use OpenMW you are a clown
Okay lol
Explain why without sounding like a faggot.
It's not widely known because npcs work in the complete opposite way; they spam the shortest animation and have random damage ranges.
The assumption most people make with morrowind is that pc weapons behave exactly like npc weapons and that the damage ranges presented on an item correspond to a random value per swing.
So the information that holding the button increases damage is usually interpreted as meaning its an arbitrary multiplier.
How combat in morrowind actually works is unintuitive and mostly a secret.
Spam clicking
Anyone who knows how to play knows to hold and has a rhythm.
Attacking an Ordinator
These are elite warriors with high level armor. Anyone who knows Morrowind knows this.
with an unenchanted sub-silver weapon
Low level character shouldnt be able to kill Ordinators.
using the chop attack, when Longswords excel at the slash attack
Again, anyone who plays Morrowind enables Best Attack in the Options.
This webm is dogshit made by a retard who probably started with Skyrim.
The game literally tells you about hold-and-release in the manual and in the in-game tutorial.
It's bait dude.
Not him but a major flaw of OpenMW is them making the diceroll activate at the end of the swing animation instead of at the start. It lets you kite any enemy you want endlessly and nearly trivializes vanilla melee combat if you can exploit it. This is something that OpenMW also adamantly refuses to fix.
Anon.
Imagine that Fargoth hides his engraved ring of healing in the treestump in the pool in Seyda Neen.
Fargoth then walks away such that he can't see the stump.
Hrisskar then takes the ring and hides it under the tradehouse.
Fargoth then decides he wants his ring and goes to loot it.
Where does Fargoth look for the ring?
Seriously?
Where does Fargoth look for the ring?
He doesn't look. He asks me, and I give it to him.
Looked it up and found this. Can I get an explanation on this shit?
Oh wow, did they actually fix it? Cool.
Yeah, my only complaint about it then is just general incompatibility with MWSE. And for some reason, one of their lead devs seems to have a hateboner for it (as judged by his dickscord messages). Other than that, I've done one of my best playthroughs on OpenMW and it's bretty gud.
It's actually pretty easy. I found out that the windows 11 zip file extractor is a pieces of shit and was giving me much grief so be sure to use 7zip and NOT the win11 software.
First time playing, never got into it on release.
How does this character look?
morrowind.jpbetley.com
Oblivion fags are so delusional its insane.
do chosen one bullshit for 99.9% of the game
some side character you see like 3 times sacrifices himself at the last 0.1% of the game
HOLY HECK HES THE ONE WHO REALLY SAVED THE DAY I ONLY DID WHAT THE EMPEROR ASKED, SAVED HIS SON AND CLOSED 50 OBLIVION GATES! HES THE REAL HERO CAUSE HE DIED IN THE END!
OpenMW 1.0 is supposed to be a 1:1 reimplementation of Morrowind but open source, so they are pushing to make more features as accurate as possible to the base game minus certain bugs, I'd rather they just move forwards and actually improve shit while also adding features but whatever.
looks fine
You're neglecting strength (carry weight, weapon damage) and endurance (health increase per level up). It's not crippling, just be aware those are the weaknesses of the character you made.
How smart it was of psychologists to take a thought experiment meant for kindergarteners and pose it as a trick litmus test.
Not of course to test those answering the question, but to see who would inevitably be dumb enough to ask it.
I was able to master combat and it becamse trivial early on
so what you are saying is you could effectivly ignore the combat part of the game (wekeast part of every elder scrolls) and focus on the exploration part of the game, where morrowind is the strongest in the series. congrats anon you just played a peak elder scrolls play through, it doesnt get any better than that.
to be fair porting MWSE is not openMW's job, their job is morrowind.
Nice argument. However, my mods are better than theirs.
Seems fine, though you're going to get bodied by npcs with two handed weapons until you get more armor skill and health.
Trying too hard. I love Morrowind but they did something horribly wrong with the combat, making it feel like you're always whiffing. The problem isn't the dice rolls (rpgs should have dice rolls), Daggerfall had a similar combat system yet you hear no one complaining about that.
I've been reading a bit and apparently there are a lot of combat errors. Not necessarily game breaking but more like NPCs not behaving as they do in the vanilla engine. I'm honestly not sure what the implications of this are.
i dunno, mods should be easy as fuck to port between the two of them if they're all supporting lua these days anyhow
atronach is a meme birth sign. Its ok for nightblade type playthrough because you can use enchanted dagger to deal most damage and save magicka for buffs/debuffs. But its a bit of a pain in the ass to have to carry dozens of potions if you want to cast regularly, or you could expliot the recharge mana trick i guess.
picks magic specialization
uhhh ur neglecting strength bro
ok grug, not everyone is a two handed axe wielding orc barbarian though.
Is there a vow of poverty mod, I should make a vow of poverty mod.
again its because you didnt read the manual. you have to do that to learn how to play the game at all, which you did not. very high skill floor because old mostly.
Woah, cool website.
You can't go very wrong with most Morrowind custom classes, but LOSE ENCHANT. It is a skill that you are *not* going to manually train. Everyone almost exclusively uses trainers for Enchant specifically.
Also, give yourself some means of passively leveling Strength that isn't Armorer or Acrobatics. The more you level a certain skill, the more its governing attribute gains in each level; this doesn't mean you need to powerlevel your attributes, but it does mean that you shouldn't neglect them.. Long Blade, Blunt or Axe are good picks for a second weapon skill (which is more commonly done than you'd think).
A lot of endurance isn't necessary, unlike what many say, as having more health just makes the game even easier (and it's already very easy).
Atronach is a great birthsign but I wouldn't reccomend it for a first playthrough while you're still learning the ropes. You can go with it if you want, but trust me when I say you will know how to utilize it much more efficiently when you're starting subsequent playthroughs. Once you know what you're doing, it's essentially a free giant Magicka pool.
Once you're aware of what few tiny caveats there are to be mindful of, you should feel free to just do whatever you want from the outset really.
A) spell absorb is very very good, you'll absorb plenty getting smacked by magic weapons anyway not merely mages.
B) maximum mana matters if you want to really really break the game. if you just need to cast one REALLY big spell to genocide all of balmora then you dont need to regen. this is sometimes a meme.
Just make your own potions, you can carry like 50 of them for like a total of +5 carry weight if you do it right.
Everyone seething about mod compatibility, meanwhile I switched to OpenMW solely because it doesn't make my character float for a second when landing from a jump.
I use OpenMW because I play on a mac
But I feel like a ninja or a cool hovering wizard when I float above the ground before landing.
is wine x86 only?
why
no I'm pretty sure you can run it on wine, OpenMW is just less hoops to jump through
cause that's what I got
idk i jumped through extra hoops to compile openmw myself for not a very good reason.
what was it
I like openMW because it led to the vr port of morrowind which im gonna play at some point
I'm OK with neglecting strength. Short blade is mostly a backup and probably I'll resort to conjuration late game, also I don't like hoarding.
Atronach I'm not 100% sure about.
Thanks for the tips anon. The thing is I don't know when those next playthroughts are going to happen, I'm going to really take my time on this one.
A) spell absorb is very very good,
so is being able to press rest button and get full magicka.
And you dont neeeed to break the game with ultra high magicka costing spells and if you really wanted to try that out for 5 minutes you could just make some potions that fortify int for a bit before you get bored of flying above balmora shooting down maximum aoe maximum damage fireballs at helpless townsfolk.
so is being able to press rest button and get full magicka.
stops mattering when i can press a number hotkey and have my magicka constantly filled to full for a bit in and out of combat
oh i wanted to use qt6 instead of qt5, its not like theres any meaningful performance improvements.
restore magicka is always a pretty rare find for alchemy if you're going in raw vanilla. late game it's easy but you really are going to have to hunt for daedra drops all game long. its definitely better for non-casters until pretty late-game where casters get a big benefit from max magicka.
restore magicka is always a pretty rare find for alchemy if you're going in raw vanilla
you hunt for ingredients??? just find the guys that sell the renewing ingredients
in my head i honestly meant hunt in vendor stocks specifically lol
All right pick me an npc clas I'm going in.
for the really massive batches i just walk to the vendor, console in the ingredients and remove the equivalent amount of gold
i've bought up to a thousand renewing ingredients before and its NOT fun
dark elf gets +10 to short blade and mysticism. Both are really strong skills. You could focus on just short blade and use spells to buff that and be very strong. Destruction could do weakness spells for your blades enchanted element, mysticism could drain stats, like maybe drain enemies strength so they do less damage and you do more, or agility so they hit less and are easier to hit and your hit chance is higher at same time. You dont NEED to use more than 1 skil lto become very strong, and having multiple skills that synergize with your race is very good. SHort blade + enchants is good, higher enchant means charges last you longer, mysticism and destruction both have good buffs or debuffs or can be used as direct damage. If you damage and drain stats you could break some enemies that would otherwise be too hard for you.
You didnt actually pick any bad skills, just basically made a nightblade without sneak which is OK
Nalcarya of Whitehaven in her shop in balmora sells void salts, ajira across the street in the mage's guild sells comberries. If you sell a restocking ingredient back to a vendor, it increases the size of the restocking pile. Buy 5 salts from nalcarya, close the shop and reopen it and buy 5 more. Now reopen her shop and sell her your 10 salts. She will now have 15 in stock every time you speak to her. Repeat until she has as many as you would like her to have. Repeat with ajira.
Magicka is infinite because potions are infinite. Potions are infinite because the ingredients are infinite and an alchemist had infinite money since the ingredients for a restore fatigue potion sell for a make up of several thousand once brewed.
nigga why console in ingredients when i can just console in max mana and console in restoring my mana.
yeah, and thats fine. i definitely meant to write that in the sense of "you will spend lots of time at vendors." nobody in their right mind would actually spend time in daedric ruins or anything.
the guy in aldruhn mages guild sells frost salts which should be cheaper
also i fucking forgot this trick existed, thank you
hey at least i paid until anon just reminded me of that stock-increasing trick which i totally could have been using this entire time
Could you make a mod that stops regeneration of health and magicka while sleeping?
you will spend lots of time at vendors
It takes a couple minutes and you've got hundred or even thousands of ingredients.
just spend infinite gold and you will have infinite magicka
this is the crux of the argument from people who recommend new players pick atronach
just go to this specific merchant bro
just use that 10k g you got from that one daedric shrine nearby where you used this particular unique invisibility ring to ignore enemies and then took the item to this easter egg merchant who will give you 10k gold then spend that 10k gold on mana potions and you have infinite mana bro
man is easy if you just use this exploit too bro
yeah atronach is nice because of regen and the meme 300 mana costing spells that are completely unnecessary but are cool. Its not really worth the hassle for a new player if they are making a primary spellcaster though.
may as well tell him enchanting is the strongest skill in the game and you can start making game breaking enchants at around 40-50 enchant if he just has perfect game knowledge and is willing to farm filled soul gems
just join the mages guild and you get like a hundred mana potions per week for free
just spend infinite gold and you will have infinite magicka
Alchemy gives you infinite gold though.
and leveling alchemy gives you more max magicka to fill with pots. that is of course a very boring start to a game and the exact sort of thing that enemy scaling fixed.
You reloaded your save after it called you a bad boy. You fucking around in for 30 minutes doesn't change the canon main quest. But you already know that and are being a retard on purpose for (you)s
Who gives a shit about combat in games other than rollslop trannies, it could've been turn-based for all I care.
Started playing Morrowind after Skyrim
Ahh, the LARPing zoomer classic. You will never be a real boomer
Why not just make all the hits hit?
I'm fine being a zoomer, thanks. I just like Morrowind for roleplay and the custom magic.
I haven't tried to make a mod for morrowind in 20 years, maybe you could just make it replace restful sleep with waiting unless you have a level up waiting to trigger and then it wakes you up after an hour or something.
But I was more thinking a mod that debuffs you for carrying gold and buying/selling things or gives you some minor benefits that scale inversely to your money. Maybe you can like remove the debuff by donating items at shrines and get a little rep boost and a day of extra luck or something.
Obviously I could just roleplay a mendicant but it might be fun to force myself to do it mechanically.
But what if you hadn't eaten raw glass this morning?
Because that's boring. And it also trivializes a solid fourth of the skills in the game.
Morrowind is already a game where most skills are trivialized by like 3 other skills
Why does Morrowind make mentally unwell people seethe and froth to the point that they shitpost about it obsessively?
What makes it the ultimate schizo-killer game?
Yeah, if you go out of their way to make them trivial that is. Same goes for modding to get rid of dicerolls; you can, but there's no point.
The prophecy is over. The world is doomed. I am not Nerevar and never can be
You can getting off the boat, train in the wilderness, and then go defeat dagoth ur without even speaking to caius if you want. The game isn't designed for that to be an easy option but it is. You can beat the game without even know what a nerevar is.
Dude, any game with a sizable following will attract schizos here. It's not Morrowind, it's Anon Babble.
Nice seething faggot. Daggerfall has daedra quests, the main quests, and that's pretty much it, and the Daedric quests are basically Skyrim radiant quests. The only cool things about Daggerfall are the fairly advanced dungeon generator (as well as the few handmade dungeons) and the cool character creator. Also, having travel times and a time limit is not unique, and the time limit in Daggerfall really only serves to stop you from spamming rest. Star Control II for example has an expanding army of squid aliens that slowly take over the map, and you can softlock yourself if you take too long preparing to fight them. That game also has better quests than Daggerfall, and even though the gameplay is simpler (its basically just Asteroids) its more fun on account of not having to look for a single alchemy ingredient in the middle of an absurdly labyrinthine dungeon every time you take a quest for a temple or the mages guild.
but you can just only take the guard jobs
that's fucking boring
The procgen world is a total waste too, because its not even dynamic. The knightly orders send you on quests too fight orcs who have been raiding the city but if you fail the quest the orcs never actually attack. In fact, literally nothing ever happens in the cities besides couriers passing you notes.
Idk maybe its more fun with 10000 mods but we're talking about the base games here (well, DFU in Daggerfall's case because the original had technical issues)
All that said, Daggerfall probably has the least shitty combat in the whole series.
Can someone give me the QRD on OpenMW?
Unironically the best and most clunky combat in the series
ftfy
Is there a mod for making theft work in a more sane manner? Flagging all items of the same type as stolen forever is pretty annoying.
stat based dice roll damage would be a very nice compromise.
I always make the corner club my house. don't kill the merchants
custom engine made to run morrowind. open source
not really much to say other than some performance improvements and tangentially easier setup, tradeoff is zero compatibility with 99% of lua scripted mods
shieet we runescape now
so instead of killing a lone merchant you want to piss off the mafia lol
It's pretty boring honestly. You just spam Power attacks with melee. The only thing interesting about it is the directional inputs I guess. Magic is just as broken retarded as Oblivion. Stealth is just as reliant on magic to be usable.
The only game remotely coming close to having good combat is Skyrim with hundreds of combat and animation mods installed while playing in 1st person and a mod that rebalances melee/magic/stealth.
Unfortunately, most people just turn it into souls slop because they play in 3rd person like retards.
Good one OP. TES games all have terrible combat systems anyway but Morrowind's completely nonsensical and inconsistent way of
LOOP
mixing tabletop and real-time combat is on another level of shit. It just makes no sense as a combat system. One of the main devs even admitted so.
but i swing sword and nothing happen
I can highly recommend the Camonna Tong mod for any true dunmer
Based! I love Morrowind.
People just need to understand that it is not a true action game but more like a real time turn based game aka Chrono Trigger but with free movement.
somehow there weren't even many scripted mods til more recently
I'm about to play through Camonna Tong: Puppet Master. It any good?
nexusmods.com
skyrim is good if you change it in to a different game
Anyway I think anon's point was that they all have shit combat actually, not that morrowind's is good.
Skyrim is simultaneously the BEST base vanilla combat game and the worst depending on which perks you pick. It's so fucking unfinished that like 3? combat trees are even usable at all.
it is good, it does the best at representing your character's skills of any open world RPG
All of these games are unplayable withount a Overhaul mod that completely rebalances the combat/gameplay. They become braindead way to fast.
Okay fags, you finally got me to replay Morrowind after fuck knows how many years, 10+ definitely.
Any good visual enhancement mods that don't break the game atmosphere? I remember modding the fog completely out of the game, and this made it look terrible, because this look was not intended by visual designers.
Also is TR worth playing now, or it's still a half-baked thing played by people who have no issue with early access?
The only thing interesting about it is the directional inputs I guess.
Don't all weapons have a strongest attack type anyway so theres no point in doing other attacks? Theres even a "always use strongest attack" box you can click
always use strongest attack
Yeah but if you enable that, you didn't beat the game.
Seeing people use full overhauls makes me spiritually dry heave every time. I don't get it. What's the appeal?
captcha will be the name of my next dunmer
bethesda games tend to be just massively improved by deleting and replacing all their combat code. morrowind's pretty much the same either way.
holy shit what a fucking nerd
the strongest npc in morrowind was that fucking elf with umbra
strongest npc in morrowind is the one you didnt know had reflect
Oh yeah, I hit 100 blunt (DUDE) and got skullcrusher on my current nord guy.
I should go kill umbra.
no its Gaynor
Gaenor is a retarded gay faggot
Isn't that the cunt in Tribunal who begs for money?
Sippy Bippy
I don't mind Oblivion Remastered combat at all with minor mod adjustments such as removing the cooldown on block. What more could be improved other than giving the player Mordhau-level of control with their swing? So you could precisely stab into a crowd of allies to get at the enemy in the middle without friendly fire. Add some dismemberment and a kick/version of shield bash for other weapons that can stagger enemies like the bash does and that's already really fun without much effort.
fighting daedra
slash two times, read their attack during my second slash and block it perfectly thanks to no block CD, shield bash, slash three times as they're staggered but quickly turn during third slash to block the 2nd enemy that came up to my flank to attack me, seamlessly canceling my third slash to block him, remain blocking as first enemy also attacks, cast powerful magic to finish off first one now that they've both just attacked me so I have a second of breathing room
It's already engaging and feels good with minor adjustments, again the only thing left is to turn it into mordhau, add more stagger variety, and add more gore. Maybe the NPCs could use a smoother animation/pathing overhaul so they don't jitter around.
yeah
Holy seethe
Why do NPCs start running from you when you jump or levitate over them? Is my acrobatics ability truly that intimidating?
Pokemon has more and worse schizos but thankfully they have a containment board
discount Skyrim
Pass.
umbra is my property.
He looks under the tradehouse. AutismGOD here by the way.
best
yes
least clunky
fucking kek
Seeing people praise vanilla in any TES game makes me believe that Bethdrones really are brainless retards. The only passable game is Morrowind because the RPG systems weren't gutted yet, like Oblivion/Skyrim. But it still gets easy way too fast in vanilla. Overhauls are a must after your initial playthrough(s).
I wonder if autism cat will make a comeback
Maybe the autist answer is better after all. It's correctly intuiting that some bullshit probably happened and opts to take predictive action.
post it
Dunno, sounds like a lot of filtered to me.
lurk for 2 years before posting you nigger
Go with the other one. It's more vanilla and less zany
I really tried to play Morrowind, but how do you enjoy this old shit? i installed million mods, but the quests are so boring and I just cant get immersed into even modded graphics, the characters move so goofy.
Wait until you turn 18 and then you might get it
This one? How is it?
nexusmods.com
Im 33, the game still didnt get better to me, never played it when i was younger because there was oblivion.
boots of blinding speed
chameleon helps but 100% isn't fool proof, you still want sneak levels
These LARP posts are so cringe.
Daggerfall is cool and enjoyed playing it for a bit but yeah it's not as good a base game to tinker with as Morrowind is.
Oblivion is inherently flawed by being the least stable and Skyrim is just awful.
Never played Arena, well not properly.
I will never for the life of me be able to put myself in the shoes of someone who makes these every day in "good conscience".
What am I larping? I tried morrowind 3 times, 2 times without mods and 1 with mods, HOW DO I ENJOY THAT GAME WHEN THE MAP IS SO SMALL AND GRAPHICS ARE TRAGIC.
Is this map normal when you go to cyrodil or skyrim
Are you on OpenMW? I think you need to do some extra shit (or play on a certain version) in order to get the map to work.
Morrowjeets spammed reports on this trvth nvke
Lmao
based jannies. truly, we did redeem
No, I'm using MWSE.
Already used the map expansion in MCP as well
if the map feels small, you need to turn down distant lands to only 2-3 cells and turn on atmospheric fog.
the graphics are fine, a little dated but fine. if you really can't get over them then just move on.
suck my dick, and drink skooma
No clue then. From what I can tell, issues with maps are fairly commonplace.
i know the funny youtuber maymay am i cool yet guise
willlbur you're retarded
Y'all drink this.
It feels like a vanilla faction basically. The way it distributes quests is a bit wierd. You basically talk with every single member of the faction and they will give you one quest each. You will need the "bad people" topic to join I think. You join at the guy who makes you smuggle tke skooma cat in Hla Oad
levitate
spell of nuclear butt fucking
Oh, that is weird. Guess I'm pulling up the UESP for list of CT members.
What do you mean by the other mod being zany?
morrowind had the best spell creations
forgot pic
we need more games like morrowind
and the time limit in Daggerfall really only serves to stop you from spamming rest.
it's a good feature, too bad modern gamer pansies mod out stuff like that because it hurts their fee fees
Has any other game even come close to rivaling it? Nothing quite makes me feel like a real wizard doing magic experiments like Morrowind does.
One of the main devs even admitted so.
source: i saw it in a dream (x2)
someday someone will create a custom base game data for openmw. someday.
atronach pairs well with alchemy, you do not know the bliss of roaming the world and tackling foes you know will heal your magic, while collecting ingredients to mix together. Kino
The animations, sounds, graphics, repetitive quests are all dated, you need to be infertile boomer nostalgia fag to enjoy this.
maybe baldur's gate 2..
.
for you, this must be like the urge to take a drug hit. the urge keeps building up until you just have to post it again or everything will hurt. all the while you have to let the sounds of our joyous laughter ring in your ears, haunting you for as long as you dwell here
repetitive quests
such as?
word
The graphics and sales numbers were also the best in the series.
Outside of the main quest the quests were MMO filler tier. Not much effort was put in which led to them feeling like repetitive filler material.
It would have been an excellent way to expand the world building but I guess it was a small team on a time crunch so they punted on that.
How often does TR get updates? I know some of the people do PC and some of them do SHotN. But I'm curious what region of morrowind comes next
I swear almsivi restoration from the temple is supposed to restore magicka
They're under good management right now. I think we'll get yearly updates, even though some of them might be small like last year
the other one, veloth's something or other, fortifies magicka
It doesn't ever state what the numbers really mean.
If you're using spell absorption (atronach or otherwise), the spell effect will get absorbed into magicka often because it's like 8 different big spells hitting you at once..
anon played so much with atronach that he forgot what the game actually is like
Understandable
I was expecting examples, it seems you're just insinuating the guild quests? are mundane tasks, and yes those are, because you are doing menial favors for Morrowind universe undergrad students. They aren't repeating tasks though, and you rank out of being able to do them anymore.
Most quests in the game actually have a lot of setting and lore flavor. Like the pilgrimage, you can run into people who want to be escorted to a location.
Off the top of my head one of the escort quests is another person on the pilgrimage. The other person is a salesman of bootleg magic items, and it turns out they have a bounty on their head, and you can execute them with no worry and they offer you the fabled Boots of Blinding Speed I'm sure you've heard of, no matter if you escort, kill them, or both.
Morrowind has no shortage of immersive quests.
yeah you can use the little shrine pillars' spells to recharge
No I literally just tested this. My first character was a wizard with the mage birthsign and I always restored my mana by either using divine or almsivi intervention and paying money for a blessing that would completely restore my mana.
I just got back on my first character and it still works but I'm not wearing anything with spell absorption
Are there any sidequests reliant on your current fight in the narsis arena questline?
The pitmaster suggested I go look up the crowds, but there's never anything to do.
Is it just a way for the devs to send me check new comments on the fights?
Perhaps you think you can see it, but it's simply not there.
But it's understandable. The task of writing the game instruction manual was probably left to someone without an education in formal or informal logic, or the knowledge of how to write precisely.
The boomers who made the game were some of the last people to be exposed to that sort of education.
The numbers mean that more is more and less is less.
why do the telvanni make you grow your mushroom house in fucking mordor
they are assholes
Morrowind has dogshit quests, the worst in the 3D series. How do you excuse 80% of them being basic ass courier quests? Most hand crafted quests of Morrowind have about as much depth as Skyrim's radiant quests.
As a joke.
Because they're staking out new territory and all their borders are ashlands aside from Aryon's territory. You wouldn't steal from your master, would you anon?
Just be glad they've let you build your own mushroom instead of sending you to claim a velothi ruin under the pretense of being a "rogue" member.
islands are crowded as it is
who the fuck wants some N'wah with modicum of authority near them?
honest courier quests, most of whic are set up as literal jobs
vs
courier quests with extra steps and no reason for you to be offered them
install the hardcore mod on openmw
everything sells for 1 gold
what the fuck
i want to physically prevent myself from breaking the game open but this is clearly an openmw issue since i tried it in the base game and it works fine there
unlike the Skyrim quests, most quests in Morrowind actually have some lore or worldbuilding if you can be bothered to read. I know that's hard for you though.
That's got to be from a mod.
Shrines don't do that unless you absorb their effect.
Could it just be this?
i never haggled, everything you try to sell defaults to 1 gold and merchants don't accept going higher
i guess i can check if that works
Barenziah is Martin Septim’s mother
it was a vanilla playthrough though. Unless its an openMW thing. I only got that for modern resolutions and compatability
OpenMW does no such thing.
What shrine have you used? What option have you selected from the shrine?
second most sold xbox game of all time behind halo
huh? is this true?
NOPE. lol it was #16
You wouldn't steal from your master, would you anon?
If he can't stop me then he doesn't deserve his title.
Such is the Telvanni way
NVM im being silly
Its been a while since I played, and I misremembered my birthsign. I saw my class name and mistook it for my birthsign. I really did as anon suggested, play too much on atronach.
kek, I knew it
It's okay anon, Atronach is so strong for mages (most characters, really) that all the other signs may as well only exist only in the wiki.
TR redid Firemoth
initial assault is still piss easy
boss fight is still piss easy
rebuilding it is just "run back and forth to Old Ebonheart" 10 times in a row
epic!!!!
iirc there was at least one spell effect you could only pick up from a birthsign
nigga stole my pants!
If he can't stop me
But he can stop you, which is why you can't actually pick you tower's location.
Aryon is the most telvanni npc of them all, a powerful wizard who is actually aware that politics give him more power than any spell.
Archmagister? Why would he risk himself agaist Gothren. Just send an overambitious apprentice.
Yeah I feel like some of them never get picked.
Like, who sees the tower and thinks its what they want?
Honestly? That's one of the good signs.
Beggar's Nose is a pretty good spell to have. You can't make anything custom that good with those effects.
The open with 50 magnitude is trash but who cares.
Pretty sure that was oblivion.
ah, no it was fortify attack. it's not very good and i think you can get it in tribunal somehow too.
who sees the tower and thinks its what they want
Unironically the sign I picked in my very first playthrough 20+ years ago.
Never picked it again though
This one schizoid constantly in these threads. We know what you are discord troon. We know you call things tranny-core despite you being a tranny yourself. You can stop. The lack of (you)s is evidence.
It's not even accurate, trannies can't handle Morrowind and prefer Fallout New Vegas because of its simplicity.
Funny meme format though I'll use it elsewhere.
No, fortify attack is from the warrior
Fortify attack is actually excellent but you can get it in many ways. Orcs get it with berserk for example, and you can get a spell through mephala's quest.
I don't think getting it with the warrior lets you use it in spellmaking or enchanting.
yeah and it's fucking worthless after 2 hours of gameplay
trying to level Enchant from scratch
You can get it from the mephala threads quest. However it already comes as a very good spell reward, so it's unlikely that you would want to custom made an hypothetical better version.
Maybe for a custom enchant it could be worth it.
Least obvious falseflag
It's not that bad. Just waste all charges and recharge with gems continuously, you get petties by the scores and your enchant is fortify magicka you can use it to fill the gems too.
Oblivion is terrible. It's skyrim workprint without the details and depth of morrowind.
I think he is right. At least in the context of your dogshit arguing.
What are the best questlines in TR? I haven't played too much, but from what I have I really like the Bal Foyen Thieves' Guild.
NTA how long do i have to hold down for max charge anyways?
the right amount of time
No it fucking sucks. Archery, melee and sneak especially. Maybe if you're a magecuck you'd like it.
if I just ignore power attacks and blocking it's the exact same
Real answer is morrowind for CRPG experience. Skyrim for ARPG experience. Every other ES sucks cock.
until the animation for pulling back finishes
What level are you? And piss easy yea that's all of morrowind except for Gaenor and Helseth.
Pretty much all faction questlines in that town are top notch.
I also enjoyed Narsis MG making you actually use magic during their quests.
