Spears just aren't cool

Sword

The weapon kings, nobles and many legendary heroes trough history.

Axe

The weapon of the cool vikings and berserkers from the legends.

Mace

The weapon of the big and strong warriors like ogres and cyclopses

Dagger

The weapon of swift assassins who would bring entire kingdoms to fall by assassinating their leaders.

Spear

Just the weapon of your average peasant militia.

Spears just aren't cool. There is a reason almost no RPGs include them. Stop being contrarians and pretending to like spears only to be "edgy" and "unique".

Spears can be cool but nobody makes them look cool. If you play something like Nioh you can see how nutty a spear/polearm moveset can be.

Spearfags are ESLs.

At the end of the day spears are by far the best and strongest weapons in real life. Even a non-fighter becomes an instant threat with a spear. It's like giving a gun to a baby kind of thing. That's how overpowered spears are compared to any other close combat weapons.

but that's the spear
ever seen a painting or a fresque of Saint George? ever seen pic rel?

This but bows.

"shish kebab's you and 3 more dudes behind you before you even reach melee range"

HOW MANY TIMES DO WE HAVE TO TEACH YOU THIS?

You mean crossbows?

twirly ninja bowstaff with a blade at the end

300 still held up as the most alpha film off all time

lol really macefag?

it unironically is the perfect weapon

Last boss in the new Doom game uses a spear

Lance of Longinus is the #1 holy relic in the world

Swords are super lame because they are so fragile. It's just immersion breaking to imagine adventurers using them. A spear isn't just sharp but also heavy and robust. There's no problem imagining adventurers wreaking destruction with them.

reminder that spears remained relevant all the way up the the musket line era, and armies would have at least one unit armed with pikes well after the pike and shot era

A spear isn't just sharp but also heavy

Spears are light weapons.

Coolest weapon is actually fists

Are there any games that truly bring justice to spears?

Real men know that spear and shield is the most kino combination

You have never satisfied and shall never satisfy a woman in your entire life until you get over this infantile delusion

Spears are objectively and historically cool though.

spears shaped the world in the past the way nukes shape the world now

Only a fool trusts his life to a weapon.

Nukes aren't used by the common person lol. The modern equivalent of a spear is a pistol

But conceptually, a sword needs its center of weight close to the handle since it's more of a trick weapon that relies on the effectiveness of its sharp edge against flesh. It's just silly to me when swords are used to break barrels and chests. Other weapons can have proper weight distributions to enhance their impacts.

If you got some really fucking padded gauntlets, would you realistically beat anything short of a rapier or mace?
anything with a significant haft could be caught, grabbed and yanked out of the opponents hands, regular swords wouldnt be able to cut properly and would rely on thrusts, which can also be grabbed and wouldnt work if youre right in their face

you can beat demon's soul's with a spear EZ mode

crossbows are a kind of bow.

Spear are the true weapon of a big game fighter, whether it' saint George riding down the dragon or Aragorn skewering the cave troll.

Everyone used spears. From the hoplites to the berserkers to the landsknecht etc.
For most of history, the most reliable weapons were polearms and bows.
But then again, swords were overrepresented since forever, which make them the normalfag weapon.

Spears are great. Nioh 2 has my favourite spear gameplay. I wish more games made bow fun though. Monster hunter rise is the only one where I enjoyed bow play

I'm so glad you didn't say "Spears just aren't cool, they're also the most tactical weapon because I'm from r/historicalweapons!"
Reddit has made liking spears so uncool

be spear wielder

hide behind shield

skewer anyone that runs up on me

oh shit some faggot just grabbed my spear mid thrust

fellow spearbros skewer him

And that's why you never break formation

sword adventurer

can sheath and draw his sword whenever he pleases. Can wear comfortably while freeing up his hands to other tasks like climbing walls or solving dungeon puzzles.

spearfag "adventurer"

cumbersome, takes up a lot of space and not friendly to EDC with unless you're physically holding onto it at all times. Has to set it down to do any menial task that require both hands. Copes by pretending that swords are fragile.

he's doesn't have slaves to carry his things for him

lol poor fag much?

Half Sword shows the advantages of a spear pretty well. Mount and Blade might, but i wouldn't know because i use a greatsword like a real man.

swing

immediately gets stuck in enemy

have to resort to your backup weapon

Well played, retard

a sword is a trick weapon

Kek what happens in a spearfag's life to make them this comically mindbroken and delusional??

nta but

Well played, retard

he says, directly after incorrectly using the weapon

lol

friendly reminder swordbro (the name OP goes by) is a retarded subhuman

the billhook was made to dismount knights on horseback, so yeah the stuck part was very important when you wanted to pry the guy off his mount

Spears aren’t cool

dragoons literally the coolest FF class

There seems to be misunderstanding here anon. The spears aren't for the adventurer, they are for the slave. A proper slave-owning adventurer knows to brandish his whip build.

Yes

at that point you're just using a staff and let's face it spears are so damn good at their job you don't need fancy moves and autistic footwork and feints to make it effective like swords
IMO glaive or halberd is the perfect in-between, lots of stabby moves while also being able to do wide sweeps/chops/cuts. If there's ever a halberd in a game I'm using it

You would literally have to hold a sword by the blade and hit with the handle to even have somewhat of an impact force. Also, the spear goes into the Bag of Holding.

I think they're cool but they're usually not very fun to use in video games, since poking at shit just isn't that fun and adding in twirls and sweeps makes them feel more like staffs, other weapons usually have more interesting movesets.
I'd say that they'd be cool in turn based games where they can make the animations look cool without regards to anything else but even in them I usually prefer big two handed swords for big damage numbers

You say that like swords haven’t been cosplay-tier for thousands of years. Got a problem only a spear can solve? Better hope you brought your overpriced butter knife and some anime-tier speed lines. Meanwhile, chad spearfag just pokes once and goes back to looking stoic on the battlefield. Cope, swinglet.

There are cool spears, they're just called Glaives

Well that makes sense and is probably OP. Still ugly looking compared to a sword

Uh-huh, and what are you gonna do with a spear? Wiggle your wooden haft at the Blood Knight until he snaps it like a twig and cleaves you in twain, groin-first? You're literally admitting yourself that swords are more suited to such foes. And this is besides the fact that by the time you're fighting such creatures you should have had your weapons enchanted to bypass that issue altogether.

Putting that aside, what are the most common causes of adventurer death? That's right, wolves and goblins. Neither of which need any "impact force" to slay, and both of which hunt in packs. You think that shitheel rogue you picked up in the tavern's not gonna break formation at the first sight of a falling gold pouch? You think that level 15 wizard who's only tagging along for the alchemical ingredients is gonna give two shits about watching your back while you fight 5 to 1? He'll probably burn YOU and your shitty little spear to a crisp just to get to the enemies in front. Adventuring means fighting outnumbered and without support, that means a SWORD. Not a little knife on a stick that can only handle one foe at a time.

Also, have fun rummaging about in your bag of holding for your knife on a stick while beset on all sides by ravenous ghouls. I'm sure they'll wait for you to get it out before they feast on your entrails, they're so renowned for their manners after all.
Actual fairy tales. It's not even worth arguing with you, I doubt you're even an adventurer. You're probably just some town guard too dumb to learn a crafting skill or join a guild, standing around all day wagging your finger at the level 1s scrounging up spare change out of random barrels in town. I'm real happy for you that you and your fellow village idiots banded together to clear some innkeep's cellar of (regular size) rats last week but your experience sticking small rodents doesn't carry over to real adventuring.
