Are there any actual opinions on why this is the best out of the entire trilogy that isn't based in contrarianism or entirely a thought that isn't entirely lifted from an e celeb
Are there any actual opinions on why this is the best out of the entire trilogy that isn't based in contrarianism or...
Atmosphere, I guess?
Each game is flawed and drops the ball in the final act, but this one came first so it had heart
maybe
Naked pinup collectable cards
i really like witcher (i'm polish) but the gameplay is so fucking bad i just dropped it after like 4 hours
maybe it's better on a controller
What e-celeb anywhere parroted that Witcher 1 is the best in the series you schizophrenic retard?
I had more fun with 1 than 2 and 3. There's my opinion.
Chapter 4 where you get dropped in the middle of nowhere was really fun. You just run around doing some random witcherin' in some village in the middle of nowhere with a completely different feel from the rest of the game. Other than that, the game's not particularly fun, the swamp is an absolute fucking dreg too.
Its the only one l played. I also like the alchemy system and heard they dumbed it down in the other entries
Atmosphere, dialogue, OST and quests are surprisingly good, I like walking around Vizima.
Everything else is mediocre, though. I'd say W3 is the best overall and W2 is the weakest.
Other than that, the game's not particularly fun, the swamp is an absolute fucking dreg too.
It's so funny how only woke idiots think this
Played Witcher 1 to completion. Dropped Witcher 2 after getting filtered at some stupid ass boss fight against some aggro dwarf. Never touched 3 because it looked like the went full Skyrim with the series
it has the most SOVL
it's jank
that's all what the Anon Babbletard needs to like anything
no one praising this game got to the swamps
it's the only one in the series that passes as rpg. it's also the only one that functions as standalone game unlike the sequels that require you to have read the books to understand what is going on.
and despite the combat being kinda ass the sequels somehow managed to make it even worse.
Keep in mind you've outed yourself for playing the remastered version of the game which has a over the shoulder third person camera. The game was originally an isometric point and click game.
Combat for me. Yeah, combat in this was kind of bad in some ways, but I couldn't stand the flaky dodge and rolly shit of 2 (never bothered with 3).
Also, it just had some soul, rural areas, with nice music, where people say shit like "your mother sucks dwarf cock" and "death to all shit eaters" in garbled accents.
Yeah, I have like 80 hours in the enhanced edition
Its the atmosphere, dialogue and the almost grimdark setting. It was also pretty unique when it came out, now not so much. I doubt someone playing it today for the first time would have much fun.
Less cutscenes, more game than the sequel.
That was pretty much it for me.
DUDE GRIMDARK!!! JUST LIKE MY WARHAMMER TOYS
Holy fucking reddit batman
what's happening with the remake/remaster?
unforgettable atmosphere
incredible soundtrack
beautiful locations
simple yet satisfying rhythm-based combat system that adapts all the elements from the books including Waitcher magic spells
good story that mixes detective mystery, horror, comedy, human drama, revenge, and slice of life effortlessly. also stays consistent from the beginning to end
great stories of individual characters along the way with thought provoking themes about society and human nature
great voice acting and dialogue (especially if you play in Polish instead of English like a dirty fat hamburger eating dubfag)
great expressive characters. even the minor secondary characters and NPCs are memorable
actually understood the tone, message, and writing of the books
actually understood the Slavic mythology, tales, and aesthetic
actually understood Geralt's character and Sapkowski's interpretation of him
Shani best girl in the series. Also the best choice for Geralt because she can fix him and give him the life he wants deep down
I like all games in the series but the first game just has that "something" that makes me respect and revisit it a lot more. It's the only game in the series that felt like a really special and personal passion project first and commercial product second. They wanted to make a PC exclusive RPG based on an obscure series of Polish dark fantasy books and use an outdated engine while having a very limited budget and people and yet didn't give up and continued their work because they were that passionate about it. They knew that they were creating a game that had next to zero chance of success yet they kept going forward

Soul.
2s story is mostly set up a bunch of kino shit only for it to gets dropped instantly in 3
3 is just book shit
One's story is best simply for actually being a complete story
I'll freely admit that I've only played the enhanced edition after playing 2 first but it is still my favourite of the series.
Best atmosphere
Best dialogue (in Polish)
Least bad combat. Both W2 and W3 are straight up awful
I think the "choose the right stance for the right situation, plus you have signs" combat system is super fun. The atmosphere and writing are really good too.
It's the best one.
coolest looking geralt
I fucking love dice poker, FUCK GWENT
youtube.com
atmosphere - probably the closest to how the original books felt
i like the music a lot, the later OSTs were too cinematic
Geralt is actually sort of ugly just like he's described in books and is not a handsome bearded daddy
better nuance with some characters, 3 went too simplified, especially with their take on Radovid and Lodge
Witcher 3's OST was actually pretty damn good. You can hear the influence of Polish folk music.
youtube.com
I still like 1 the most. Act 4's atmosphere is the peak of the series.
All the games have things going for them and they all have their flaws too. 3 is the most polished and accessible one, aside from that none of the games really stand above the others with much distance, it is all very close and they are too different for a ranking to have any use. Just play all three.
Yes:
It's the only actual ROLE playing game, with the most varied and engaging gameplay, most replay value, best atmosphere, and no console-trash nor woke shit.
Witcher 2 was one of THE biggest, most insulting downgrades in gaming history, demonstrating the steep decline the industry would soon experience.
To be fair, Witcher 2 was at least gorgeous, one of the most graphically impressive games of the time. Shit looks better than Witcher 3.
The game was originally an isometric point and click game.
Huh, that explains a few things desu
It was a PC game first and it's good to see it's still filtering consolebabs.
yes, faggot.
combat is pretty poop(still better than in 2) and running around ten times back and forth for a quest can get boring with how slowly geralt moves
otherwise great game
soul
you either get it or you don't
Witcher 2 was one of THE biggest, most insulting downgrades in gaming history
yeah but the triss sex scene was great, best in the trilogy
How badly will they butcher and censor the remake?
yup
I feel like this was always the better option. Classy, and doesn't age as poorly.
Lies. There was an option to switch, it was never exclusively "isometric".
Areas in 2 are too small, the menus are ass and it's constantly resetting your potions and shit in cutscenes before fights and making it impossible to drink new ones
Combat in 3 is too easy overall with how mobile Geralt is and the plot was less compelling than the plot of 1 and 2.
All three are still solid 4's on a 1-5 scale though.
Choose
Town clerk, always the town clerk.
The miller chick with the fat ass
City hall woman with the fat butt and thighs + Murky Waters village girl in the fields with the nice titties
Abigail is kinda freaky too
Unparalleled amounts of soul. The game is truly a reflect of the devs vision despite its flaws
That was easy.
Top right because I'm a femdom cunnilingus fag
based
Say what your problem with the game is and work from there. For example, people go for combat, but there's nothing WRONG with combat. Most just don't like the fact it's a weird rythm-based affair neither action or turn-based. It works just fine.
Adda's royal strigga pussy, milk lady on bottom left and toruviel
story, atmosphere, and immersion. The whole point of video games is escapism, and Witcher 1 excels at that.
I think the fact they incidentally spaced out games on separate generations actually let each be different enough.
Witcher 2 was writers reading too much Game of Thrones. It gave us this fucking UNIT of a guy, though.
isn't based in contrarianism or entirely a thought that isn't entirely lifted from an e celeb
ironic you say this because people who use the word "contrarian" typically need social validation (often from celebrities) in order to do anything
Adda right after the strigga curse was lifted and she still has the mentality of a little girl combined with aggressive craving for blood and flesh
It's the same as most jank games, where the jank is coherent enough that you learn how to best the game through the bullshit. Like how most games have decent movement nowadays, but in order to move faster in witcher 1, moving slightly to the left or right in a direction you want in fast or group style is the fastest way to move in the game. It's the players fighting the game and getting rewarded through pattern recognition and beating the game at it's own jank.
But also, being the first in the series, it's simplicity is freeing compared to the later games. Even moving from witcher 1 to 2, it's a leap that feels a little constrained and more console like than the original.
It's the players fighting the game and getting rewarded through pattern recognition and beating the game at it's own jank.
I think that's exactly what your average player can't stand as they inherently prefer a more polished, guided experience.
I think more players should be open to games forcing them to play a different way than all games to play alike. It's the freedom to go against the currents of bullshit that made 1 fun.
I also liked the first game the most. Can't explain why other than i liked the world building much more. You get used to the combat eventually.
I liked all of the Witcher games, they're all great, but I still prefer 1. It just feels more genuine, there's no other way to explain it.
Wrong.
I played on launch, you could always switch.
The enhanced edition made the loading screens about 500% quicker, made more variety in character model textures, improved the inventory system, and replaced some of the original voice acting (in some cases making it worse imo)
I have no idea why the Lakeside Day/Night tracks aren't included in the OST as they're arguably the best in the game, other than maybe Seawall:
youtube.com
youtube.com
It's single-player RPG greatness.
I don't fuckin' know, I think it felt the most "genuine" of the series. I still loved witcher 2, but found myself getting bored with witcher 3 (still haven't finish main game). I also bought and played this game retail before enhanced edition. The music especially left quite a long lasting impression on me.
youtube.com
It was the only witcher game that didn't filter me by being obvious console slop
No, because it isn't the best, it's the 2nd best. Game had fucking MMO side quests where you just went around killing an X number of mobs or gathering an X number of items. Also the quest to get the best sword in the game is a fucking shitty collectathon quest
collectathon
isn't that the one where you have to kill all the unique minibosses
Witcher 1 has the best story (in the main game), and better combat than 2, but it's writing and acting is abysmal
2 has better acting than 1 and roche (irveth or whatever his name is a leddit choice), but the half step they took with combat was cancer.
3 has the best acting, not enough roche, and even on deathmarch the potion system is pathetic compared to the previous 2, but it has the best combat otherwise
You get that from the guard dude. I'm referring to the dentist quest where you have to go around collecting fucking teeth
writing and acting is abysmal
Translation issue. youtube.com
Witcher 2 is easily the worst potion system
Have to mediate just to drink a fucking potion
Potion duration still goes down during conversation
And considering the duration is only like 15min, you can literally lose your buff during dialogue in some cases.
why would anyone argue with someone who has already stated he is going to be completely disingenuous and handwave anything you say away with "HURRRRRRR ECELEBS I WATCH GAVE YOU THAT OPINION!!!"?
oh that one yeah, i mean you don't really have to go out of your way to get them all, but the premise was pretty dumb i agree.
but honestly i still found the weapon progression in witcher 1 better than in 2 or 3 where you loot all these epic legendary weapons that are useless because you just craft the best gear
People who sperg out about e-celeb opinions are e-celeb watchers themselves. It's always the same song and dance with them:
play [GAME]
post opinion about [GAME]
"fuck off e-celeb nigger, you're just regurgitating what [LITERALLY WHO] said"
Fixed.
Act 1 is shit though
Didn't ask, retard. Isos are shit.
Gonna have to disagree with you there. I liked having to craft the best gear in TW3 because it gave money some value. I went broke crafting Grandmaster gear and I enjoyed it. Too many games just shit out gold and give you nothing worthwhile to spend it on.
why this is the best out of the entire trilogy
because you're a real witcher doing witcher shit
i like 1 because you're actually a witcher doing witcher shit and the sword combat is nice and brutal. i won't defend how simplistic it is to actually do. the alchemy system is fun and preparing yourself to go into shitty dank tombs to fight hideous creators with strong silver style and geralt doing some 20 hit combo with backflips while blood sprays all over the walls is great.
i didn't care for 2's political focus and completely dumbed down and worthless alchemy. 3 is just open world monotony, and geralt is barely even a mutant anymore.
the crafting itself wasn't the problem, the loot system was. finding some hidden treasure and then it's some shitty armor or sword that are totally useless is just disappointing, and it happened all the time
It's like that for all franchises, especially rpgs. Witcher 1 was literally made by a bunch of nerds in their moms basement and garages that put all their heart into the game. Then when the game popped off it turned into corpo/big company profit calculating and schedules with cutting down content in next editions of the game.
E33 devs supposedly don't want to expand, even after their success, for this exact reason. Guillaume is ex-Ubishit so he knows just how horrible suits and middle management can be.
comfy Slavic medieval countryside feel and tone
unnerving supernatural horror detective mystery plotline
smartly designed layout
being on edge every single night because of the beast
introduces and teaches all mechanics and interactions with the world really well
introduses best girl
introduses best friend
dice game
brawl fights
meeting the kind of Wild Hunt
discovering the truth behind all the individual characters
saving the children
sex with Abigail in the cave
beating the living shit out of Reverend
the main theme about the corruption and animalistic nature of human beings
Geralt's speech to everyone during the trial
kino. easily my favorite part of the game desu. sad to hear you didn't like it
Better atmosphere
By which I mean
Timeless graphics
Best OST in the series
Geralt's voice acting hadn't gone full homer simpson yet, keeping the tone more sombre
A tale more focused on the typical witcher-work e.g. helping out small towns rather than a grand quest
Less "video game" elements, e.g. less hunting for loot, only a handful of weapon/armour upgrades, a minimalist UI, no quick time events or fast travel, the best mini-game in the series (which also fit with the world, playing dice in W2 felt annoying due to the clunkier board; better than gwent)
a world clearly built for a more mature RPG audience (PC exclusive helped)
taverns felt alive
No need to worry about SJW feelings so the devs were free to include many trysts with surprisingly tasteful romance cards as opposed to an off-putting animation of character models grinding on each other (for some reason the card art was objectifying but having SFM in your game is ok)
All the Witcher games play terribly. If you want decent melee combat you have to train for hundreds of hours in a melee game like Chivalry or M&B. Of course the mechanics in those style of games would be too hardcore for the casual player so we either get:
a rhythm based combat game like in W1 where the devs essentially outright say "the player wouldn't ever be able to fight like Geralt so just tap lmb in time with him". This actually encourages RPing with potion consumption/preparation because you couldn't cheese the enemy as easily
spam dodge/roll then light attack spam rinse repeat game with hundreds of MMO tier armour and weapon upgrades. None of the enemies input attacks faster than a 70 year old Parkinson's patient so the player can feel strong and powerful! Potions not necessary at all
Neither requires any skill but at least the first doesn't force you to spend 50% of your game time farming for materials to build your next +10 defense armour
Nah, act 1 sucks. The stakes aren't clear enough for you to really care, the characters feel kind of random and it most definitely is not comfy. It is depressing.
Act 4 is the comfy countryside.
A tale more focused on the typical witcher-work e.g. helping out small towns rather than a grand quest
I want a spinoff game just about this. No world-ending stakes, just monster hunting for piss-poor money paid for by uneducated peasantry. Sadly the modern CDPR could never.
for me, it's the dike
youtube.com
no, that's pretty much it.
I'm assuming you're Polish. What are your thoughts on the Witcher 1 remake and Witcher 4? Excited? Keeping expectations low?
geralt is closer to his book character than in any other game
great music and atmosphere
actual preparations for hunt and dungeons
meaningful alchemy
geralt actually applies oils and sharpening stones to his swords
no open-world meme with ubisoft question marks
Though I'm not going to pretend like it's perfect.
To understand why people prefer Witcher 1, I think it is useful to think of them mirroring the books:
Witcher 1 deals with small-scale witchering and some important characters directly related to Geralt.
Witcher 2 starts going more into the inter-kingdom politics.
Witcher 3 goes full Ciri.
All of them (like the books) have their good sides though.
It's the only one where you actually need to think during combat instead of spamming buttons that do awesomesauce all the time
I always thought witcher 2 was the best in series.
1 had the most soul, but was hampered by its shit gameplay and wonkiness. Every game tried to fix the gameplay, but gave up some of its soul to do so. 2 is the happy medium.
No, 2 is the best. The reason 3 sucks is becuase of the Open World and the terrible pacing becuase of it. 1 does nothing better than 2.
Before W3 came out I remember depserately wanting actual hunts with learning about the monster, preparing oils and potions, then gathering clues and going on the hunt, maybe setting up lures and traps.
But the game ended up being streamlining all of this. Potions cook automatically, oils work the same way as healing potions in TES and hunt boils down to following red cirlce on the mimimap and activating witcher sense.
Also, Ciri is the worst character of the books. Would rather have a main plot about the fellow witcher getting into trouble.
Witcher 1
Resident Evil 4
Persona 4
Legend Of Zelda
Fable
Lord Of The Rings
So many games that peaked in their beginning "village" section, and games where the village part is the best part
First chapter is the worst in W1. Yes, worse than the swamp.
Fuck the ghost dogs.
I feel like the Kayren in witcher 2 is the only time we ever came close to a true monster hunt. It has a nice long build up, and you crafted the potion and traps you needed to beat it. Pretty sure they nerfed the fight in later patches unfortunately.
It was the best because americans had no idea it existed when it came out.
i only ended up playing it because i got it for free with my shitty ATI video card in what, 2008? Bet I'm not alone here
rent free
Rent free? The moment you fucking mutts touched it it went to shit. First witcher 2, then 3 that was pure mutt pandering, then you fucked up books Translation and then, here we fucking go, netflix fucking American slop. I hate you for that one fucking most. Die.
it was kinda weird how they combined yen and triss into the same character
i wonder how they'll handle that in the remake, i except some major rewriting honestly
ooooohhh. there it is. he finally admitted it. little zommie can't into fast style skills and forgets to switch to silver sword all the time. thanks for letting me know. now everyone knows to ignore you and your gay take about twin peaks inspired kinocore of Act 1
You don't have your silver sword in the first chapter
That's a very weird meltdown. Me admitting not liking one specific enemy somehow turned into bizzare detailed strawman in your head.
posts cringey discord pic
says that his opponent has a "meltdown"
I accept your concession
It isnt, 3 is best one
now he makes it about discord
Are you okay, buddy?
This should've been the only reply to op.
drops the ball in the final act
the witcher 1
Did you not understand what was happening towards the end?
Retard.
Retarded retards falling for the retarded lies of a retard. Retarded!
This is Anon Babble so we have to pretend we like the worst one otherwise someone might think we are normalfags.
You guessed that right. I'm very nervous about both because the long and costly development of Cyberpunk 77 caused a lot of changes within CD Projekt Red and led to massive "Americanization" of the company, and you can guess where that can lead. It's not just about the current Western virus that causes everyone to make everything lame, safe, gay, boring, and full of lesbians. Witcher 1 and the series as a whole center their identity, style, and tone around being very Slavic in nature. I'm afraid that both the Remake and Witcher 4 will be extremely westernized and lose all that central Slavic fantasy identity.
I heard that Witcher 1 Remake is being made by a lot of the same people who worked on the first 3 games meanwhile 4 is being worked on by a lot of people who made C77. You can imagine which one makes me infinitely more hopeful desu. Still, it's no longer 2007. People change all the time. Even if you have the exact same team of people who worked on the original game, it's hard to expect them to have the exact same energy and style as back then. The Remake can eliminate a lot of the aspects of the original that I love
My personal biggest hope for W1R is giving Shani a lot more screentime and flashing out her romance with Geralt and their "family" life with Alvin a lot more. She deserves it after being shafted for 2 games straight by an aggressive Trissfag within the company. I also hope that they keep the original soundtrack completely untouched and will make the combat system better while still keeping it in the original style of rhythm game instead of turning it into yet another Souls-like roll slop
post more funny meme pics and write in a passive-aggressive manner about the person you are replying to. it definitely makes him look like a person having a meltdown and not (You)
Game had fucking MMO side quests where you just went around killing an X number of mobs
Brainlets really got filtered by those. What if I tell you that you automatically fulfill the ghoul blood collection quest when you do the main story quest that takes you to the ghoul infested catacombs?
Probably can't breathe and tie your shoes at the same time.
Best music, characters, story/writing, and art design(imo).
It's just the best game of the series.
2 looks cool in the swamp but the rest way meh.
3 was kinda bad in a ton of ways and downgraded so it didn't even look good without mods.
(PC exclusive helped)
If only. Them almost going bankrupt over the Witcher 1 console port is what forced them to go public.
but there is no TW1 console port
That's how bad it was.
why is sephiroth and peter pan making fun of that beggar
Geralt knows how to respectfully treat all women no matter their age, race, or species. He inspires me desu
BIG MEATY WHORES
it was kinda weird
Yen was supposed to stay dead and player character was some unnamed witcher
Till the last moment they couldn't decide if they wanted book re-telling or an original story
Alvin is there instead of Ciri for the same reason
I just generalized, Witcher 2 and 3's third acts were consistently underdeveloped and it's been a couple years since I played 1 so all I remembered off the top of my head was the buildup to the climax feeling a little rushed. In hindsight it'd be way more accurate to bitch about chapter 2
it is a really cute Peter Pan though
They kinda butchered her look in TW3
fucks you for a diamond
yeah they're definitely removing all the sex cards and 99% of the sexual encounters in general
I fapped to the bent over nurse(?)
They could easily expand on it and allow you to play Gwent using the cards you've collected.
It's a shame that, because of modern-day politics, they won't.
It's literally just contrarianism
People defending one of the worst/jankiest combat systems to date and calling W3 a movie game or a walking sim when literally 80% of your playtime in W1 will be walking (slowly) from point A to B
this is false but a decent way to flush out the noobs
People defending one of the worst/jankiest combat systems to date
But enough about W3. You just quen+mash LMB. At least W1 has some variation, with you having to manually select steel/silver sword, select the styles and time the attacks to the rhythm.
Don't see the appeal. stagnant pond water tends to smell really bad.
That's called Seawall on every version of the OST i've seen - even though the area itself is called Dike
I played it on PC at release, or at least tried to, it was terrible and unplayable. I played it again after the enhanced edition released and it was playable but it was still shit. The only reason you people pretend to like it is to feel like you have superior taste compared to the pleb masses.
It wasn't really any different pre EE in terms of gameplay - it's just the loading screens could take up to 2-3 mins to load into each hub which was a pain
The Witcher was never good
I don't give a fuck about e-celeb, played it on release (before enhanced edition). The story, music and atmosphere was great. Even pre patch long loadings not scared me away. First village my fav location in series.
Replaying the game on an SSD after all these years is a shock because all the areas load in like 1 or 2 seconds. If you played witcher 1 at release on a hdd half of the game was loading screens.
It was also loaded with massive amounts of game breaking bugs and glitches.
grain mill worker from what I remember kek what a nice card.
It's great because Shitri may as well not exist.
I must have got lucky - played it on an unpatched retail version and had no issues other than the loading times
Only reason Im not excited, If I don't see naked dryads nor vampire foursome I won't buy it
Similar experience for Half-Life 2 when it came out - the average loading screen took me probably just under a minute, but could always tell if the next area was going to be dialogue/scripting heavy as it would shoot up to 2-3mins.
Playing now every loading screen is essentially instant.
Its a shit game.
Can't wait for the remake to make it playable
How is Jacques the bad guy?
Incredibly huge shame that they created Alvin as her replacement but then abandoned the idea in the sequels desu
He turned Rayla into a female mutant, thus setting up precedent for CDPR to let Ciri do the trial of grasses in the Witcher 4. That's evil
I mean Geralt had already killed Jacques, bringing back Alvin would just create an unnecessary nonsensical time loop plothole
underrated villain, him and the professor made for a good contrasting double act
Oh course they will lol. It's now fully American company.
Now post the american dryad lol
Yeah, but he's basically just Vilgefortz.
It's an actual RPG.
It's pure contrarianism mostly. It has the best alchemy system but that's it.
youtu.be
It just has soul anon idk what to tell you
I really like the way it feels to play, and the atmosphere it exhibits all the time. It's very neat it's made in Neverwinter Night engine too.
