One of the best GBA games, anda good game. Its somewhat overrated by many Mother fans, but still a good recommendation.
the Mother hate didn't really start until (western) indie games started becoming popular in the mid/late 2010s.
If you could check archives of Anon Babble circa 2008~2010, you'd be surprised at how civil and good Mother threads were. One of the few times Anon Babble wasn't shitposty about something and could all gather together to enjoy something. When the Mother 3 fan translation came out it was like a Anon Babble golden age. Only other time Anon Babble was that happy about something was with Japan Time, but witjh Brawl, shitposting started quickly as soon as Melee tourneyfaga started complaining and also the whole anti-Wii console war sentiment, but with Mother 3? Everyone loved the game and console wars didn't matter because PCfags could emulate GBA no problem and Sonyfags too on their PSPs.
The only problem Mother threads had back then were a few pedoposters but those were quickly told to gtfo and didn't get to ruin threads as mods actually deleted their spam.
The panorama took a 180 degree change now, most people will hate on Mother because they instantly relate it to undertale, plus there's juxtafag/insists/broke me/milque spammimg and samefagging.
It takes you 12 hours for the story to start and play as the actual protagonist

After the whole dinosaur incident there should have been a time skip and you play as Lucas already.

If it makes you feel better, every community has changed after 2012 or so, when social media took over the internet.
The good news is that you can still enjoy the old games intact as they were back at release and ignore modern internet.

Mother 3 pretty much bored me to tears with all its melodrama and whatnot
With how overly linear it is compared to Mother 1 and 2, and it trying to take itself too seriously with its story, I never bother with finishing it. Mother 1 remains my favorite of the trilogy. But funny enough, because of Mother 3 I ended up reading The Notebook, the Proof, and the Third Lie so I'm at least grateful to it for that.
And Ana is best girl.
