It is, IMO, not a good game, but I'm a little surprised it's doing as poorly as it is.
Bethesda is a household name
Doom Eternal sold really well and is beloved by normalfags
it's free "gamer cred" to have played a Doom game
Why exactly is this failing, beyond being a bad game, I mean?
Not enough marketing? Not targeted correctly? Bad timing? Is the price a huge factor?
I'm just surprised at the game requirements and then at how it looks
check steam hardware survey, 40% of the pc playerbase can't run the game
Zero advertising
Doom had tons of marketing and product tie ins and Doom Eternal had the Animal Crossing meme
Doom the Dark Ages was just put out with zero fan fare or marketing
Steam has 70 million active users a day. You could prune 80% of those and still have a more than enough people to set new records fro Doom.
1 + 2 are still king.
Game costs $80 + DLC and a lot of people played and hated Doom Eternal.
But Bethesda specifically promised that this WASN'T Doom Eternal 2. They even made a big deal about how 2016 was strafe-and-gun and eternal was jump-and-gun and that this was more slow and methodical.
Oh and FAR more people liked Eternal than disliked it. I am not among them, I thought 2016 was the way forward but Eternal is normalfag slop.
The good will built up by Doom 16 ran out with Eternal.
PC hardware should be leaps and bounds better than console hardware but it's not. The Series X was launched in 2020, which is probably what they designed the game for. A 3060 is better in some ways, but worse in others, like memory or memory bandwidth. That's a bottleneck if the series x is the baseline.
Most people are getting it on gamepass but there are still some reasons for this mainly poor performance and formula fatigue. Recently started playing and it's just doom, you know what to expect.
Why exactly is this failing, beyond being a bad game, I mean?
It's just too expensive. People (and by that I mean pc gamers ofc) aren't willing to shit out 80 euros on a base edition when everything got more expensive and they have to cover basic needs
I don't get the performance complaints. The game better optimized than 90% of AAA games that have come out in the last 2 years.
id software needs to take over control of the Halo franchise already. Dark Ages is proof that they'd do a better job since it is essentially Halo.
The game better optimized than 90% of AAA games that have come out in the last 2 years.
That's not saying much of anything at all.
Not everyone is a 16 year old with the memory of a goldfish who only compares a game to games of the last 2 years (which also weren't worth buying, considering all the studio closures and layoffs from games failing in the last 2 years.
Yes and anyone arguing otherwise is a communist faggot
paying the direct-from-Steam 30% markup
You realize the Steam publisher agreement allows studios the right to generate infinite keys for sale on other storefronts right? GMG, Fanatical, etc are all officially licensed resellers and usually only do a 3-10% markup. The same profit from buying the game from GMG for 50USD a month ago goes directly to the devs as being a total fucking retard and paying Steam (the storefront) 80USD. It isn't our fault you're a total fucking nigger retard. I'm enjoying Dark Ages and it is definitely worth the 50 dollars (no tax too) I paid for my Steam key from GMG. I pity ledditors who shop only on Steam.
I don't think that most people with lower end hardware are buying triple A anyway.
I spent 2000€ on a beefy PC that could run TDA without problems but I refuse to pay 80 eurobucks for a standard edition digital release of a 20 hour playtime game
doesnt help anyone with half a brain will just use gamepass and play it without buying it
unrelated pic
difficulty is just more damage crap
yawh
Not enough marketing? Not targeted correctly? Bad timing? Is the price a huge factor?
All of the above. 2016 and Eternal are all about moving into the middle of a moshpit and all the footage I've seen for this one is just standing still. Either someone at id fucked up or Microsoft just did what they always do and fucked with what wasn't broken.
I'm a little surprised it's doing as poorly as it is.
Why? Look at the Steam stats. A MAJORITY of people can;t even run it, due to the raytracing requirement, & a huge chunk of the ones that can, can't run it WELL unless they have a nigh-top of the line GPU.
"but RT has been around for year nigguh jus upgrade niggguhhhhhh"
You know what HASN'T changed in literally over a decade? How shit gets rendered. Add to that how visuals have been on a literal plateau for years & the fact that NO game of note fucking REQUIRES RTX before this. So literal tons of people with 7-9 year old cards have been running new games consistently well, without having to worry about supporting some forced gimmick.
Id/Bethesda fucked themselves. Hope they enjoy it.
I've seen for this one is just standing still
i havent been standing still but gameplay feels too scripted
shot
charge with shield
throw shield
sometimes glory kills which shouldnt exists in any fps because it makes them all shit
Of course it's someone posting about hardware that wasn't even a thing when Eternal released. Did you know that you couldn't run Doom 3 in 1080p 60 fps even with the bestest of best hardware?
i doubt anyone could run the alpha at good fps but i dont remember if i changed gpu between leak and release
got banned from the Steam forums just for pointing this out, so yeah they know full well they fucked up
raytracing requirement
why do you people keep lying about this? there is no raytracing requirement
Why exactly is this failing
the ceaseless shitposting on this board is reaching critical mass. I understand most of the jannies are gone but good god clean up some of these. We don't need the same thread ten times an hour all day
You know what HASN'T changed in literally over a decade? How shit gets rendered.
We moved from forward rendering to deferred rendering and it seems to make a lot of people upset because it complicates things with anti-aliasing and now we are basically relying to TAA.
You have no problem throwing 2k into a magic box but then 10 increase in video game price is too much?
Yeah there is dude. There is no baked lighting/shadows at all in the game. Id Engine 8 is a RTX-centric engine
an increase of 20
and yes
prolly cuz he full of shit
I was playing this game and I can't get over how they removed glory kills. I really hate that they did that.
I tried to get over it and just like it for everything else it has but I can't. Especially since I only get like 80 FPS on high settings because of the shitty forced ray-tracing
I'm more disappointed than anything else. I thought it was going to be as kino as Eternal but it wasn't.
Hopefully Valve still gives me my refund with 5 hours playtime.
It's $80 on Steam, and $10 on Goy Pass. No one's gonna pay $80 to play this game when they could pay $10 now and either sub again the next time they want to play it, or buy it heavily discounted in a few years, which includes the currently unreleased DLC.
80$ for single player shooter just isn't good value, anyone with half a brain will play it on gamepass
It is value if you like it.
Not in this economy, people are more selective on how they spend money
Things. Are. Worth. If. You. Like. Them. No butts. The Dark Ages sucks btw.
80euros for a 15hour derivative game is ludicrous proposition
How many hours is football as a game? I don't think that you're understanding what I am trying to say.
This. My weekly expenses are up to $1000 a week thanks to the recession and hyperinflation. I cannot blow $80 on a video game.
No butts
Fuck you nigger, where the butts at?
$80
Why are speds like you buying direct from steam? Buy Steam keys from official resellers if you care about devs getting the full profits they would from Steam or unofficial keysites if you don't give a shit. Or use the unlimited free gaypiss dupe account exploit to play for free.
I don't have a credit card and my debit card gets rejected by literally everybody except Steam itself.
a lot of people hated eternal
the only ones who hated it were anons from here for some reason
Glory kills are lame when it's just the "spawn health pack and ammo" button
Should have made it like serious sam 3
doesn't know what paypal is
Shame
the gameplay looked like confused slop that couldn't decide if it wanted to be dark souls eternal or 2016 and because of that confusion the consumer was left unsure
People who suck at classic shooters (quake, doom, unreal) hated it because they can't move and shoot. Too much for their room IQ brains to process.
The pricing is obscene in the US annd overseas so I wouldn’t rely on steam figures to gauge how it’s actually doing. I mean they’re charging the equivalent of over $100 for the base game in multiple countries. It’s clear that MS is overpricing it af to get as many as people on game pass as possible.
Oblivion is too long. And then im playing Skyrim again. Doom can wait.
I suppose so. I thought they were satisfying and cool.
Now in Dark Ages I'm not sure exactly how you're supposed to get health all the time.
You just kind of run around looking for weak demons to throw the shield at. It's super lame and annoying compared to glory kills.
I'm sure this wasn't the intended way to play the game, but I don't want to bother anymore.
Kinda like the first Mario + Rabbids, Doom 2016 had the "hold up, is it unironically good?" effect and Eternal had the whole Animal Crossing thing.
This one didn't really have something like that, and MS has been awful when it comes to marketing.
it's free "gamer cred" to have played a Doom game
No really, what the fuck did anon mean by this?
They should have waited for Nintendo to drop Tomodachi Life for another Barbenheimer effect.
