I'm due a hardware upgrade so I'll get a video card that plays nice with Linux and do that. Gaming and music production are the only reason I still boot into windows

no

Nah, I'll upgrade to 11.
I like to be able to use my computer so I avoid Linux

They will bitch and moan but they won't do anything about it.

No.
First of all, W10 IOT LTSC Enterprise edition receives security updates up until the year 2032.

Second, that does not matter, because not only have I kept ALL automatic updates OFF the past 15 years (yes, fifteen), but Microcock "ending support" means jack shit. It just means that they won't release new updates, that have been potentially dangerous to the end-user the past 12+ years.

I used Windows 7 up until late 2023 without any issues. Updated out of the pettiest necessity, mandated by MS, but I made sure to neuter and hack the Ten the best I could.

This ain't my first scare-campaign of MS I've lived through. It's just terrifying to see how quickly the general population "forgets" MS' bullshit and does not realize the utter lies.

Now, if the question was "will you ever be updating to Linux?", the answer is a sounding YES. The Wee11 is unironically the most dangerous OS I've ever seen, and I've lived through the WinME.

windows 10 iot ltsc till 2032

You know Windows 10 doesn't magically stop working in 5 months, right?

why did you switch from 7?

Because Microsoft deleted and prevented re-installation of Minecraft: Education Edition on any system older than W10.
Same happened with a handful of other development tools of theirs.

I got the Enterprise version, so I'm good. I would really like the screenshot and paint tool from W11 or 12 though...

You understand that they're gonna do the same for windows 10, probably well before 2032

implying I ever "upgraded" from 7

They most likely will, but it won't be today, not tomorrow, nor next year.
All these recent "software incompatibilities" are literally MS orchestrated, artificial restrictions, created out of the business execs demands in order to push sales of their latest shitty product.
Every Windows from Vista to 11 uses the same Win6.x core, Win7 being 6.1 and Wee11 6.4, meaning there's no practical reasons why one app made for a 64-bit OS would not work on the other, almost identical 64-bit OS.

Not to mention 99% of all the software I need already works on Linux as we speak. I even got some normie customers who legit run Ubuntu, which is great.

I have already switched to Linux Manjaro.

lmao no

thinks windows 10 users can use linux

anyone qualified would already be using linux.

I switched to running Debian and getting backported kernels/Mesa. Flatpaks and AppImages are quite nice despite the small space premium they command. I just wanted to caution people switching over that while Mint may be fine for now, Ubuntu is doubling down on their snap packages apparently. They have proven much less secure than other software repository models a few times in recent history. Arch had some weirdness when using it for desktop, but Debian would be a solid test bed to get your feet under you if you want to switch. Godspeed if you decide to switch from Windows. Linux with XFCE desktop has been like a Windows XP revival for my computer experience in such a pleassant way.

Microsoft will port recall to W10 and W10 LTSC once they "end support" for W10, just like how they backported all the extra telemetry to 7 & 8
You will never upgrade to Linux, who are you kidding? You're too stupid, you'll upgrade to 11

I switched to Nobara and it's quite nice. Bottles has so far let me play everything. Only problem I've encountered was some foundational mod for the new remaster Mass Effect games that I couldn't get working at all. I think the devs of that made it a nightmare to get working via wine on purpose desu

windows 10 ltsc

i dont give a fuck nigga

I want to switch to Linux with hardware passthrough to vm if i need windows.

Not because of support ending though.

I'll stick with with 10 as long as possible, and then switch to Huawei OS that they will announce soon. Chinkshit is preferable at this point.

I already switched to Linux and Mac.

What do you wanna run in a VM? Because if you're looking to play multiplayer games that aren't available on linux, a lot of those have shit built into their anticheat malware that lets them detect VMs.

Just use chromeos at that point

yes
i don't play games or use any programs that are windows only and windows has been pretty horrible to me lately

I switched to Linux half a year ago and I'm not going back

upgrade to Win11

UPGRADE TO WIN 11

UPGRADE NOW NO SUPPORT TO WIN 10

DO IT UPGRADE

QUIT USING WIN 10

chuddha.jpg - 935x1200, 61.59K

Still on Win7. Not my problem.

foundational mod for the new remaster Mass Effect games that I couldn't get working at all

have a link to the mod? I've generally been able to get anything that doesn't require a complicated mod manager in the middle working fine. if there's a dll as part of the mod package, you may need to make sure you add it to your winecfg library for the game to look for it as a local library.

I will switch to Windows 10 IoT edition, supported until 2032.

i've been wondering what the hell "ending support" really means. like what do the windows updates actually do? i don't fucking now.

windows defender takes care of virus detection and as far as i know those definitions will still be updated.

side quest.png - 752x443, 466.86K

I will force them to extend the support by doing absolutely nothing

I will switch to pirated win11 with all the bloat removed

I will ride with Windows 10 until new games or Steam stops working on it. Then i will just get a whole new computer.

Question: Is there anything in Win11 that you actually want?

Being on Win7 looking at Win10 I wanted:
1. The built-in ability to use Mono audio
2. The improved Task Manager
3. The built-in Night Light feature

With Windows 11 I haven't heard about anything that I actually want.

will you stop spamming this thread when windows 10 goes out of support

Microsoft try to force everyone onto Windows 10 because they want to make it their ‘forever OS’.

Finally get people onto Windows 10 after many years of pestering

Change your mind and release Windows 11, restarting the entire process

Why are they like this?

Indians

it will then become, "why haven't you switched to windows 11 anon?"

based

win 7 gatto.png - 1920x1200, 1.63M

What is HDR support like on Linux? It's the only reason I switched to 11.

I believe Gnome and KDE desktop environments both support HDR through Wayland now

bro just switch to linux lol do you love bloat and spyware or something??

no i like actually being able to use 90% of the software that exists without needing to troubleshoot every single fucking time

people act like linux is hard to understand or utilize, it's not, it's just inconvenient.

The only time anyone will switch from 10 to the latest garbage version, as always, is when software starts being incompatible with 10.

That's how it always was, and that's how it will always be.

GRRR WHY DONT YOU LOSERS WANT TO MEMORIZE COMMAND LINE COMMANDS?

i like actually being able to use 90% of the software that exists

have a few examples of what you want to use that didn't? I thought it would be harder to continue ROMhacking and whatnot, but even obscure tools seem to work fine with WINE almost all the time for me.

with WINE

most of the time

you answered your own question
you're having to assfuck some ductape and spit solution to run software and I don't want to do that

things like obscure pc-98 emulators, old software that is hard to get running on Windows, let alone Linux. Hell, even just a lot of older games you'd find on GoG won't run on Linux unless you do a whole bunch of runaround bullshit fix.
If you enjoy tinkering with your PC, then Linux might be fun. For me? I use my PC to actually do stuff.

pc-98 emulators

looks like support is generally poor across the board, but there are multiple emus with Linux native options. GoG releases typically are THE EASIEST to run through WINE.
1/10 trolling, likely AI generated bot nonsense. there's also the moderate possibility you are actually retarded and trying (poorly) to hide it.

I've been on win7 for the past 17 years, once my neighbour asked to help with something on his computer and he was running win98 still.

windows 12

if it's any good, sure
fuck windows 11 and fuck troonix
win10 until then, ltsc if I have to

Anyone?

Anyone have any actual reason for Windows 11 outside of Win10 falling out of support?

Only problem I've encountered was some foundational mod for the new remaster Mass Effect games that I couldn't get working at all.

Works fine on Deck.

pc-98 emulators

You literally only need NekoProject and it works perfectly on Linux you fucking tard

Switched to linux half a year ago and honestly I'm really glad I did

she didn't switch when 7 went EOL

le meow

They did the same thing with Windows XP which was also supposed to be a forever OS.

There's a universe out there where they actually release Windows 9, and it's an actual forever OS
