You should have 3 crafting islanders with you at all times to raise their affection faster. Some of them don't talk as much or have more pleasant voices/voicelines. Combat islanders are a meme because the game is already easy as piss, and gathering islanders like you said are just annoying sometimes, but crafting ones make life so much better.

Are your base farm crops gated by story progress or something? I've farmed them at least 5 times so far and they're stuck between level 15-18, and my farmer life is at 29 now. Seeds also cost a fucking bomb and you never get enough to replant, so I'm actually losing money when farming because they also sell for shit too

just get your gathering classes so you can gather shit you need as you walk by
fishing/angler is pretty much only really used by cook so you can avoid it if you don't want to do cook early
blacksmith makes most lifes tools so leveling it up to have good tools to be able to make better stuff easier is pretty good, therefore picking a combat life that uses blacksmith makes life a bit easier
the other lifes use tools made by carpenter, and weapons also made by carpenter, which makes its own tools, so if you want to play hunter or mage you can be a bit more of a carpenter focus, but then you need to pick up tailor or blacksmith for your armor, which kind of isn't as nice.

basically the "optimal" starting is to play mercenary as your combat class, the big damage single target with good aoe class, level blacksmith and miner, woodcutting and some carpenter as well when needed as well as a bit of tailor when needed, alchemist is okay as well for healing stuff and accessories, its quite self contained. But a lot of the other lifes feed into each other in their own cycle separate from this so you then need to level everything.
Once you kind of get a good base going and have figured out the flow of the game you can easily just make some tools for your other classes and power level them, be it through gathering being trivial, having a bunch of materials for crafting that you can also easily source, or being able to feed good gear to combat classes that can easily kill shit way above their level with it and fly through them

Steam and non-Steam have seperate save file locations. Make sure the game is launched through Steam for it to load your Steam save.

Fantasy life seems like a perfect deck game, not super intensive, good for both short and long sessions, better with a gamepad, etc.
The only games I'd be confused about people asking for deck compatibility are fps and anything with a lot of menuing
