Are the 8bitdo controllers any good?

Yeah, they're pretty good. So are Flydigi and Gamesir.

I just got one so I could have a turbo controller for PC, and when I went back to my Xbox One controller it felt loose by comparison. So I like it a lot so far.

I got a couple. I'm not a controller expert, never had a console. They work fine.

I don't know why they insist on making them ugly monolithic blocks. Would it kill them to add some raised areas or ridges?

Probably not. Always get official controllers. They aren't good, but others don't try to be different.

Sticks should be much higher quality and use a different method of sensing and securing. 2 lines is fucking stupid and results in absolute shit controls. And unnatural stuck movement eg it doesn't move in a circular motion with uniform resistance.

Get an Xbox controller.

Yes. I used to be on console, and I think they feel like 1st-party ones.

Get an Xbox controller.

They're good until they stop working a few weeks after the warranty runs out. The only thing they had going for them was being one of the first brands to adopt hall effect sticks and now there are other better options at similar price points.

Been using them for years and never had any issues with them

8 bit do prob the best "third party" controllers out there

8bitdo Ultimate 2 is currently my favorite video game controller. Period.

I already liked the Ultimate 1 a lot, and the 2 fixed every minor complaint I had with it.

cost/value wise they are probably the best.
there's more premium pads out there though if you dont mind paying a bit more.

kys

I'm not enamored with their insistence on copying the Switch Pro controller shape for their flagships

always get official controllers.

I've had mine for 2 years and it's still going strong

yeah those asymmetrical sticks gotta go

I wish there was a charging station for the pro2.
Its old at this point but I really like it still.

1 minute has been deposited into your Xbox Game Pass

For it's price yeah it's good, but there are better controller out there if you have the money

which one? they make so many. 8bd ultimate is decent, but its a smaller size if that matters to you.

I considered one but doesn't it not support rumble on the switch? It's around the same price as a pro controller so I don't really see the point.

Does any one know about wheels? I have one and it's notchy and sucks. What can I get that's cheap and decent?

I own the Pro 2.

great buttons

great d pad

extra points for having bumpers

the analog sticks are shit

Very good controller for fighting game players.

It has normal rumble but not HD rumble. The rumble on Pro 2 is extremely strong though and I may need to adjust it.

The Cyclone 2 is great so far. I've had it for a month. It's ugly as fuck to me, though.

Yeah, it's good. If you're careful to get the one with 2.4 GHz and Hall Effect, because they're labeled very weirdly

they're alright
im still waiting for a playstation style 2.4 hall effect from them tho

How do I decide between using a sony vs xbox stick layout?
I've been using dualshocks my entire life and the only time that I've used an xbox layout was in a shitty third party controller which I hated
I'm thinking of getting the ultimate 2 but not sure if I want TMR

The cheapest good one is Thrustmaster T300 something. I got a Logitech G27 and frankly it's disappointing

Any other new TMR stick ones on the horizon? Know of gamesir cyclone 2 and bigbigwin or someshit so far.

still cant wake up the switch

They're not bad, definitely worth more than almost every other 3rd party.

It's the same price as a pro controller, but it has FOUR extra remappable buttons and hall effect sticks. Plus even if you get the one that doesn't support Switch, you can use it with their 8bitdo adapter 2 on the Switch in bluetooth mode. I say it's still worth it.

Yes, so long as you're buying the ones with hall effect sticks.

I'm tempted by it but I hear there's problems with the shoulder buttons being too clicky or not working properly. Or just they that the general quality assurance is not great for this one.

They're Xbox controllers for people with small hands, the newer models also have some features removed from the previous gens and compatibility issues where you need 3rd party software for it to work.

If you have big hands, and just want something that is plug and play with no issues, get a gameSAAR.

The ultimate 1 can. You have to press the home button then tilt it backwards and forwards a few times. Though it won't work on Switch 2 because apparently Nintendo changed how that works that Switch 1 controllers can't wake it up.

I like it as it was the best controller I could find that was wired. I don't get why everything needs to be wireless.

The shoulders are quite clicky, but I've not had any problems with them not working. The 8bitdo Ultimate 1's shoulder buttons are less clicky, more comparable to like the dualsense L1/R1.

Pros for ultimate 2.4/bluetooth first edition

extremely low latency

comes with charging dock

hall effect joysticks have no drift

Cons

proprietary software required to remap back buttons

only 2 additional buttons

subpar battery life

joysticks feel imprecise

Its probably the best bang for your buck when its on sale for a hall effect third party controller

the wireless 8bitdoos can be both plugged in and used at once. I love em

Vader 4 Pro is the best controller money can buy in the year of our lord 2025.

I prefer a built-in wire rather than attaching a cable.

I have one and the Bluetooth connection is spotty. It has a small chance of disconnecting randomly, and even when connected when you're holding down the trigger button there will be lapses where the input breaks. In expedition 33 this is especially bad because you'll stop sprinting randomly.

they're alright but
do NOT get ultimate 2, they have a problem with inner dampening pads falling off thanks to poor adhesive

Yeah they're pretty solid these days and have improved over time.
Older SN30 / SF30 models had some issues like membranes wearing out or unreliable d-pad diagonals, but the past two SF30 Pro 2 controllers I've been used have been largely perfect.

The exception being a firmware fix that my Hall Effect version of the Pro 2 controller needed, since it wasn't getting the full analogue stick range.
It required looking up an obscure fix that isn't in 8bitdo's site and was only given out to people who asked for support, so info is only recirculated on sites like Reddit.

I fucking love my M30. Great for fighting games, shmups, any 2D games really. And it comes in the cool Japanese Sega Saturn colour.

Pros for ultimate 2.4/bluetooth first edition

"first edition" didn't have hall effect sticks though and had way batter battery life thanks to that

no argument

Concessions accepted

lil bro thinks he's in a debate :skull:

Incorrect due to average latency

None of those anons, but the last several xbox controllers I've had got some sort of defect within a couple of months. From-factor wise, xbox is my favorite, but until they get better quality control, I'm gonna shop elsewhere. I've had original xbox mad catz controllers last longer than this junk.
8bitdo feels shittier, but still no defects for a year and a half now, which is longer than every single xbone controller I've owned.

I use it wired.

We live in the age where the chinesium you find on aliexpress is already better than any OEM controller for the same price.
Like a Vader 4 Pro or a Blitz 2.

Additionally, the triggers have a weirdly high amount of resistance and the D-pad feels slightly mushy. Those were the minor issues I had with it that were fixed in the Ultimate 2.
