The "Yakuza/Like a Dragon" brand can lean into the silly goofy stuff while Century can go back to the roots as a more grounded crime drama.

They already tried that with Judgement and despite being so much better than 90% of the Yakuza games it still failed. Most people, including Yakuza fans, don't even know the game exists and this Century game is gonna be the same. But going back to Yakuza, they have completely destroyed the series and have nowhere else to go.

Story and pacing. It's filler: the game where you're always running around after characters who aren't there or quickly escape. It verges on self-parody how often you bounce between finding the same 3 characters and they say one thing & leave or simply aren't there at all.
It's light on substories because terrible minigames at the school are 70% of the game.
Everybody loves it anyway. Most of the well-developed cast from Judgment are barely involved.
I'd rather play Dead Souls.

Netease axed a bunch of developers sort of, they essentially gave hard deadlines to all projects and strictly told them no additional funding. So they are still working on the game, but netease is not dumping any more money into the project.

It's funny, RGG wanted Ichiban to be the face of the Yakuza series for the next 10 years, but then made the boneheaded decision to make Ichi 42 years old in LAD. For comparison Kiryu wasn't that old until Yakuza 4. Ichi should've been in his early, mid 30's so they can play off the youth angle but now Ichi is simply too old to be the protagonist. Kiryu managed to pull it off by being a genetic anomaly; Ichiban is not.

In Judgement the stakes slowly get higher and higher and everyone begins to have a personal stake in the story. In Lost Judgement Yagami is the only one really invested in the story, Kaito and the detective duo and all the other good guys are kinda just there. And then in the last 5% of the game they tried tacking on big political/economic stakes that is definitely not organic.
