Gonna start playing DS1 this weekend. Any tips?

Use the tools the game provides you, when you unlock something new be sure to try it out. The game doesn't really open up until you get to the second area which is more or less 10 hours in if you take your time. Don't rush. The first two hours are 90% cutscenes. Most of the cutscenes are condensed in the beginning and the end of the story. Pissing can save you from spooky ghosts. Tony hawk your way down places with floating carriers. Make sure to body slam MULEs. Smash MULEs heads with XL cargo. Run over MULEs. Gas MULEs. Kill and incinerate MULEs.

Any tips?

If you run into terrain that is not traversable with your bike, then get off the damn bike.
You can kill BTs. You will want to kill BTs. The game will tell you how to do so, so pay attention.
You will be rewarded for increasing connection levels of bases an knot cities. It is often advisable to do so.

Just the basics to get you started. Enjoy this amazing game.

If you care about maintaining your structures, don't rest in bases if you can help it. It makes time pass. I did it a lot to repair my cars, but you can just store them instead.
