There's nothing wrong with Gamecube control in the context of the first two Prime games. The games are designed around them, and I'd take them over having to force god awful dual stick controls that consoles forced onto every shooter.

zero mission is hardly a remake, it takes the atmosphere and ability to get lost/explore out completely and adds in some shit bosses like the bee

Primehack changes the pace of combat to be much smoother and easier than was intended, and the fluidity doesn't really match the tone of the games. Also the morph ball controls for primehack suck.

Primehack with gamepad support enabled is the best. It plays like a modern twinstick shooter. Played through all three games with an Xbox controller and it felt great, it even handles Prime 3's motion control segments nicely.

Primehack is fine but overrated, it just centers the reticule. You can use mouse with default config just fine if you're OK with it moving within the screen instead of keeping centered at all times.

It's a single button press for when you want to readjusted when slouching or repositioning. It sounds bad, but in practice it's nice.
I started with gamecube, but wiimote and chuck is my favorite way to play by far.

Either's fine but I prefer playing Primehack now.

Dread sucks - trial and error bullshit, everything is grey looking and the ost is lackluster.

I have to assume Prime 1 is one of those games that people only like due to nostalgia and it being Nintendo, it would be generous to say that only 40% of the game is backtracking. There's also zero reason to engage in the combat since the game gives you 15 trillion health and enemies hit you for about 3 damage each so you may as well just walk past them when you're going through the same room for the 80th time. They also couldn't think of any other way to make combat 'harder' than to make the enemies play Simon Says to hit them with different weapons, a gimmick so good they reused it 3 times and even made the entire mechanic of the final boss.

I played it for the first time in 2023 and loved it. Its basically just Metroid in 3D. Can't really get the same experience from anywhere else. It nails the lonely space adventure perfectly and has a great soundtrack.
