The show tried to mend it by giving Abby more legroom and altering how it plays out - and then had her do an elongated villain monologue speech, and a dramatic camera pan over the golf clubs as a knowing nod to the fans about what was about to happen, accidentally tripling down on the problem and turning her into an unsympathetic shitlord again.

Turns out ruthlessly and brutally murdering one of the characters Sony literally used as a face of their company for the better part of a decade was a terrible idea for a brand.

Something that will haunt Joel for the rest of his life, wondering if he really should've let Ellie die. And he has to constantly remind himself there was already a pile of bodies that Ellie would have been thrown on top of.
