Bros its not fair. Will they get a happy ending ?
Bros its not fair. Will they get a happy ending ?
game went downhill when gustav died for a cheap shock
thought we learned this shit back when they killed off superman 60 years ago in the comics and sales went up only briefly before crashing the entire comics market
fun, quirky, awkward, heart of the group
replaced with edgy lookalike that uses all the same equipment
rest of original group ceases to get any more character development as the story becomes completely about the new donut steel ocs
this story came straight off of deviantart 14 years ago or some shit
The events are in motion
It wasn’t just a cheap shock. It serve its purpose to develop Maelle character.
I hate how you can tell that they literally did it for just this. If they had actually thought it out, they would have had you play without Gustav for awhile, while the remaining three desperately try to keep it together and you as the player would feel the loss of the character as well since you'd be down a man.
Instead he just gets instantly replaced by a guy who is literally holding exactly what Gustav was holding when he died. And somehow he uses the same weapons too, how convenient.
It's like the game died with him. Maelle got a bit of development while the rest disappeared. Game is all about Verso and Maelle after.
I love the game but I hate what happens after Gustave dies. Verso comes in and skinsuits him and it's fucking weird. Immediately playing as him in the campsite was a mistake. There is dialogue in old areas that doesn't change either.
Based
It serve its purpose to develop Maelle character.
Rendered meaningless by the ending
Can someone explain why The Paintress created sentient humans in a magical dream reality only to have them all die horrendous deaths over and over again? If her goal is to live forever with her dead son why do ANY of this other shit? Is the story that retarded or am I retarded and completely missed the point of all this?
It's supposed to simulate her life. Society and all.
or am I retarded and completely missed the point of all this?
This one. Pay more attention, they explain it outright multiple times
youtube.com
This game hard filter's Anon Babble's collective intelligence.
Together?
Anon Babble is mostly brown and poor now, that's why the culture shifted to shitting on games rather than enjoying them, because they litterally can't. Most of the complaints about denuvo have always been from thirdies with low end rigs that can't brute force the miniscule performance hit and because they can't pirate.
Again, why are these magical painter family members creating these fake worlds with "real" sentient, conscious humans in them that they slaughter?
So she escapes into the painting world to hide away from her real life just to re-simulate her life? Makes no sense if she is literally a god figure that can create and do anything within this world.
Why doesn't it make sense? She wanted her life except her son is alive and her daughter was the only to suffer the fire.
I hate zoomers so much it's unreal.
If you can create a magical dream world and be the God of that world, why the fuck would you make it a living hell and not an escapist utopia?
Gustave best brother
Palicia best sister
both screwed over by Verso
Who the fuck cares what their reasoning was? They killed a character that people liked, and all the writers deserve is a shotgun to their faces
Did you play the game? This is all explained there. She didn't make the world the way we see in the game.
Aline didn't make it a living hell, dimwit.
Again, why are these magical painter family members creating these fake worlds with "real" sentient, conscious humans in them that they slaughter?
You're hopeless
Then why is the painted world like that if she or her family with the same god powers didn't make it that way? It makes no sense. This is why god powers are can make things retarded as fuck. The game explains next to nothing about the outside world or the family. The Dessendre family are the sole creators of the painting world and can create, change, or destroy anything inside it right?
Reading these threads has made me realize how utterly brain-dead and illiterate Anon Babble is. The most basic concepts go right over their heads. I can't even imagine one of these retards attempting to read a book.
how do you go from this amateur shit to potential goty?
youtube.com
Then why is the painted world like that if she or her family with the same god powers didn't make it that way?
Gustave is not a character people like.
People like Gustave more than Verso
Nice rebuttal. I'm speaking in plain English and can't even get an attempted explanation of how this isn't a completely retarded story with a massive godpower plot hole.
Get back on stage and play the piano.
The one who created the life is not the one doing the killing, you absolute dumbass
Books are cope for brown people who cant afford vidya.
They don't understand Verso and are children who get overly emotional because he lied. Boo hoo.
all you faggots saying this have probably poured hundreds of hours into this and are complaining about this but some how you are here discussing it
that means they did something right you dumb faggots
How does king crimson work????
Their team up needs to happen.
Gustave wakes up in a cave, his last memory of dying to the white-haired man
first thing he sees is a masked white haired girl sharpening a fencing word
next to her a barefooted woman in a dress
"I'm putting together a team"
NO SHIT. Renoir is killing, who gives a FUCK, that has nothing to do with my question. There is still a massive fucking plot hole of why the fuck they needed to create this world in this way to begin with, it makes zero fucking sense. They are Gods within this world they created, why would they make it this way, they can make it however they want and they settle for creating and then killing their creations for some convoluted BS reason to have drama for fake doppelganger painting creations?
they can make it however they want and they settle for creating and then killing their creations for some convoluted BS reason to have drama for fake doppelganger painting creations?
"they" is not the same people
You're overfocusing on the wrong thing. The whole canvas world is an alegorical piece to talk about addiction and grief and family.
Wondering about the godpowers of the Dessendre is like reading Plato's cavern allegory and complaining how the others can't just stand up and walk outside, aren't they humans with legs? How can they subsist while doing nothing but watching shadows?
It's completly missing the point.
/kino
Why would anyone attempt to explain something to you that's already explained in the game?
Verso created this canvas as a child. Originally, it was only Esquie, Monoco, the gestrals and grandis. It was meant to be a "playground" world where he'd go on adventures with Clea and his painted friends. When he died, the last part of his soul remained in the canvas to maintain its existence. This is why Aline went into this canvas; because it contained the last remnant of Verso's soul.
When Aline went into the canvas she painted Lumiere, a society that parallels her own real life. She painted copies of her family and they lived happily together. But Renoir needed to get her out because she will die if she stays too long.
When Renoir went into the canvas they fought. Their godlike powers clashing caused the fracturing. Aline disappeared from Lumiere and was trapped by Renoir at the top of the monolith, while Renoir was trapped at the bottom. Painted Verso and Renoir went on the first expedition which was intended to be a search and rescue mission for any survivors; painted Renoir and Verso were searching for Aline.
That's when Clea stepped in and tried to stop them from interfering. Because Aline is a stronger painter than Renoir, Clea helped Renoir by creating the nevrons which prevent their human victims' chroma from returning to Aline. This meant Aline's chroma would be drained over time until she's forced out of the canvas.
So the reason why the world is fucked up is because there are multiple powerful painters fighting with their powers. Nobody intentionally designed it this way. If you can't understand this you are simply retarded.
Play the piano, wipe those tears this time.
Aline made the painting an idyllic place where Verso was still alive and she could live in happy escapist life with her fake painted family. The only reason it's fucked up is because both Renoir and Clea shit all over it in order to pull her out. They don't just kill their creations for kicks you dingus.
Didn't read. Eat shit retard
The Paintress isn't the one creating the Nevrons/monsters in the Canvas. That's Renoir and Clea, she wants the world to be peaceful but those two are fucking it up.
Offered a very straightfoward summary of the events of the game
Chimps out
Subhuman behavior, anon wasted his time on you
Didn't read.
Clearly. If you were capable of reading you wouldn't be asking these questions to begin with.
t.
Kek
Half lots of money and the right people working in the right job to pay them. That is it.
I read books and play vidya, but that's beside the point, retard.
So she escapes into the painting world to hide away from her real life just to re-simulate her life? Makes no sense if she is literally a god figure that can create and do anything within this world
She doesn't want to be a god figure, she just wants her missing son and the family dynamic she lost on his death.
Are the "zoomers" in the room with you?
Rendered meaningless by the ending
The ending where Maelle is decomposing in the painting because she's spending too long there?
I miss em
I'm talking both
When the story begins with The Paintress being this big mystery and sole focus for the characters we follow it's a pretty big detriment to the story, not allegory, but STORY, when it turns out that the motivation for this god figure makes zero sense when she could have just made a world that actually helped with with her family grief and suffering instead of this video game world with hell monsters and fake humans and family doppelgangers. This is a video game that sets up a character driven plotline that utterly fails to deliver anything of substance in the end thanks to a nonsensical direction of the writing, this is not like one of Platos allegory's. Logically she and her family would create a sort of utopia for themselves, but of course that makes for a bad video game. The game story tries to hide an incredibly simple and obvious plot hole under a layer of melodramatic convolution.
Retard
she could have just made a world that actually helped with with her family grief and suffering instead of this video game world with hell monsters and fake humans and family doppelgangers
How exactly do you bring back PAlicia?
You don't. The third route should be an alternate one
Imagine they killed Crono and just left him dead
LOL
When Renoir went into the canvas they fought. Their godlike powers clashing caused the fracturing
This makes more sense but I didn't read or hear this in the game I swear. If this was only revealed in a journal entry that's pretty retarded.
that the motivation for this god figure makes zero sense
when she could have just made a world that actually helped with with her family grief and suffering instead of this video game world with hell monsters and fake humans and family doppelgangers.
The motivation for the so-called god figure makes perfect sense. A mother in grief loses herself into what little remains of her son, enters his canvas (his magical world, his imagination, his vision) and repaints her family to pretend tragedy hasn't struck.
What part of that exactly doesn't make sense? People who are suffering pain from loss don't behave like automatons, Aline's actions make perfect sense given her circumstances because they were taken during EMOTIONAL turmoil. Reasons aren't only logical reasons. In her grief, she decides to DENY the reality of what happened and instead paint herself an illusion, an idealize version of the world to live with her immortal family.
I swear the rise in autism will kill all fiction.
This is a video game that sets up a character driven plotline
It is character driven. The main character is Maelle. It was always Maelle. You getting overly attached to other characters because you briefly control them is just on (you).
You understand painters can just repaint anyone right. They're not "dead"
It's ALWAYS better to play rpgs as nobodies. The moment they killed John Expedition, that magic was gone.
Wait, you can bring him back?
RETARDBRO??
Fair enough
They killed a character that people liked, and all the writers deserve is a shotgun to their faces
Psh next you're going to say the Star Wars sequels weren't masterpieces despite doing that in every movie.
No this was mentioned in a cutscene.
Something like "we can't risk another fracture from you two clashing". Not quite but along those lines.
You getting overly attached to other characters because you briefly control them is just on (you).
I actually think this was intentional, as it serves as an allegory to Alicia's attachment to that which isn't real. By getting the player to invest time and emotion into Gustave and Verso before they're revealed as not real, it leads the player to empathize with Maelle's attachment to the painting.
Now you're gonna tell me you can ressurrect Aerith too, yeah right, fuck off
Nah, it almost made me quit the game and the feeling of aversion was so strong that I'm still typing about it after beating it. His death was important to the story, I just think introducing Verso and making him the main character immediately after was stupid. Needed an interim.
introducing Verso and making him the main character immediately after was stupid. Needed an interim.
Yeah it could have been done a LOT better
They were never alive
Simon feels like a character from another game of the devs. Do we get more info about him somewhere else? He's Clea's lover, I don't know why real Clea would super buff him though.
Since they're not alive and they're not people, then there is no such thing as rape or murder there
Just putting that Dragonirian-like axiomatic truth out there as a reminder for all
It's not a theme they explored but perhaps they should have
He's painted Clea lover, real Clea is pissed he plapped her painted version silly and mind rapes him into a monster
Painted Clea’s lover
Post em

Still don’t understand why they tried to trick us with Verso on the marketing of the game
The point was making you attached to Gustave
I don't really mind Gustav dying but I feel like there's barely any weight to it. Maelle has an episode but everyone else kinda just moves along as if it barely mattered. Yeah I know, gotta continue the mission and all that but you wouldn't think these were friends who knew him for years. Also while it's a stretch to call Gustave the main character, he felt like one at that point and I feel like if you perma kill the MC then it should be accompanied by some kind of grand narrative change to go with it. Even though it changed from Act 1 to Act 2, it doesn't actually feel like much changed besides getting some more mysterious lines from Renoir.
Honestly, I think this is my issue with the game's story in general. The pacing sucks dick, it doesn't feel like anything major is ever happening. You're just going from dungeon to dungeon until you get to the Paintress while occasionally Maelle has a vision or Renoir shows up and drops some mysterious bullshit. That happens the entire time until you get to the last .5% of the game where they dump the entire lore on you at once. There's nothing really engaging until right before the final boss.
When one falls, we continue
that one anon that completely missed the plot in favour of his action figure fantasy storyline
LOL
Understanding it doesn't make it good.
He keeps going and he sounds like an ape in every single thread. It's the same fucking guy.
Mfw I died for nothing and my entire world gets wiped out because a depressed guy wanted to drag us all down with him
you wouldn't think these were friends who knew him for years.
The rest of their expedition died on the beach and I don't see you complaining about how fast they moved on from that.
still crying over gustave
kek move on already it only took me a day
Blown out
Nice gets, also anon got BTFO.
Quints of truth.
You may have a point because I do feel like Gustave’s death should have a bigger weight. However, they all lost friends at the beginning of the expedition.
He would want Alicia/Maelle to move on.
Died to save Maelle's life because chad Verso forced her out of the canvas
Verso did nothing wrong
What can men do against these reckless digits?
I'll give Lune a happy ending if you catch my drift.
Well, they have lived their lives with death staring them in the face in the form of the gommage, then these ones went on a basically guaranteed suicide run. It makes sense that they'd move on quickly. Time is something they never had in excess.
Also, nice get.
French aren't white.
he uses the Gommage gradient skill
You didn't beat the game.
Maelle abuser
Using Gradient skills at all
Using Gradient Counters
Parrying for free counter-attack damage
Avoiding guaranteed damage by abusing the Dodge mechanic
You didn't beat the game.
You forgot
Jumping
Learning new Monoco Skills
Upgrading weapons
Increasing your Lumina above their natural cap
An "action figure fantasy" would have been a hell of a lot better than the contrived convoluted nonsense we got. Clea or Alicia could have just destroyed the canvas if her mom was mentally gone anyways. What was the point of any of it narratively if 95% of our perspective and time was from the canvas POV? This is what happens when you make the big twist some bullshit like this or time travel. I swear it's a law of writing. The second that the late big reveal in a story is dream worlds, sudden reveal of god powers, or time travel, the story is about to take a shit all over itself.
