Every year we get a new indie game that blows up and becomes at least a minor internet cultural phenomenon, if not bigger. Stardew Valley, Undertale, Vampire Survivors, Balatro, Five Nights at Freddies, Lethal Company, even fucking Among Us. Minecraft was an indie game before Microsoft bought Mojang. Silksong would never have become a meme if Hollow Knight hadn't been popular. The only people refusing to play indie games are the CoD/Madden dudebros and a random handful of jaded basement trolls.
