What is the Rogue Trader system? I've been thinking of getting this game on sale, but I disliked Kingmaker and dropped it not even 6 hours in. It just felt overbearing. I don't usually play CRPGs and I almost missed out on BG3 later because of this. Turned out that was much more to my liking.

What I meant was dwarves usually have some cool ass armour and weapons in fiction so a sci-fi version looking like having a mostly generic human sci-fi aethestics is disappointing. The utilitarian scifi as you call it feels milquetoast and nordic stuff thrown on to make it not completely generic fails to move the needle for me. While it certainly is different enough from the other factions which is commendable that doesn't mean it's good in my opinion.

Its a d100 system, so basically your objective is to roll under your score. So if your ballistic skill is 60 you need to roll 60 or better to succeed. In terms of meta, builds that stack turns are optimal, basically there are conditions in the game that give you another turn, or another action, or whatever. An optimal squad will all have that and your encounters will go from filling whatever resource you need to get the turn stacking thing and you ideally steamroll the enemy, becuase they usually are stronger than you and you don't want them ever having turns at all.

Some reveals probably aren't that good too but they also fleshed out the primarch and created a lot of popular characters. Also isn't Cadia's fall the natural progression of the setting or an I missing something?

Cadia's fall retconned Eldrad dying and maybe becoming a magic space fortress ghost so there's that.

HH shifted the dynamic of 40k to being significantly more focused on Marines while pulling it further away from xenos. Whereas before Marines were typically equal to xenos, it's shifted more and more to Marines being casually above xenos. This became more of a reality with Primaris; bigger, stronger, more tacticool Marines who are casually superior to everyone else.
On top of this, Primarchs became a much, MUCH larger focus due to HH. Whereas before they were mythical figures either corrupted or lost to time, they're now a bunch of quirky plot-armored superheroes/villains that xenos factions can't compete with from a narrative perspective. Even the 'Primarch equivalents' for Xenos are treated like shit; Ghaz got killed by a normal Space Wolf captain. The Silent King has been completely clowned on even before Guilliman has faced him. Farsight got his shit kicked in within his own book. The Eldar and Nids don't even HAVE Primarch equivalents.
Meanwhile Guilliman gets a scene where Mortarion literally kills him inside Nurgle's realm, just for the Emperor to go "Nuh uh" and resurrect him.
Even beyond that, Guilliman's return has greatly altered perceptions of the Imperium. There's a legitimate push by some (newer) fans to say that the Imperium are the full blown Good Guys of 40k and that everything they do is justified, even though such an idea goes against GW's own writing.
40k went from being a setting about numerous factions interacting to just being the Space Marine franchise.

Marines were the faction utilizrd for Start Set boxes since they were the simple, straightforward Space Guys. This led to most players having Marines, even if they were focused on a different faction. GW's metrics don'tcaccount for that, so they think everybody loves Marines. This leads to more Marine production, which in turn people will buy into when GW slaps Marines on the front of 40k. It's a snowball effect years in the making; Marines get the most so Marines sell the most so Marines get the most.
