2019 I quit before bwl, this anniversary I quit at diremaul release. To me only 1-60 and HC are fun, the endgame and PvP is just ass in this game. Still love 1-60 (esp in HC) and will do it every 2-4 years.

Na. SoD started nice but now it's old and tired. Classic was awful after TBC. Hell, even TBC sucked. The first 6 months of og classic was fun though.

What do the bots do? Just kill stuff? Pretend they're at the AH? Is the AH just empty?

simulate real players and do everything that real players do except talk to you (they say random bullshit in the chat to simulate a real server)
you have to find the updated version that has all these functionalities though and it's on some russian website, the one on github is an older version that lacks some functionalities I think, also WOTLK might not properly work on that

1-60 in phase 1 and quit, probably the most fun online gaming experience I've had in decades. The experience was like lightning in a bottle. Unfortunately it fell off after level cap and I quit until covid. Played through naxx and then was off and on through the other expansions. Played a lot of wrath and I ultimately don't think it was as great as the first time around. I might have moved into the TBC > Wrath camp. But there's a special magic to vanilla.

Hardcore was a lot of fun, I didn't hit 60 though. I hit 30 on my first character, died trying to help my friend do his whirlwind axe quest and then quit after hitting 33 again on my second char. The Undermine was coming out and I'm a huge sucker for Goblin lore so I switched over to retail for the season until my sub expired. I hit 3k in M+ and stopped.

SoD was interesting, but deeply flawed. I'd like to see what Blizzard does for coming iterations of vanilla in the future.

SoD was amazing in phase 1. Everything after deviated too far from classic to be good.

Played one a while ago and I couldn’t tell if the bots are actually using the ah or not but it looks and acts pretty much identically to a live server filled with chink farmers. On the version I used all the dungeons and raids functioned except for a couple exceptions at the far end of wotlk, and since you’ll have gm commands you can force some stuff to work anyway. I blew through all the content in a couple months and since I didn’t give much of a shit about wrath or pvp the itch was scratched in such a way as I’ll never need to do it again.

This is just not true. Cata is very dead right now.
This is one week of Classic fresh parses. The highest number of parses for Cata is 30k on Mage.

from what I saw all the battlegrounds and arenas are functional but you have to specifically command a bunch of bots to participate. other than that, they'll gank and you can set their reaction times to instant if you really want that wow experience.
