The main problem is that one of the attacks is with the fucking Light Brand, and late game enemies have a non-trivial amount of res. Actually, speaking of the Light Brand, his engaged weapons are just okay. They're not as useful in the long run as Alear and don't provide a useful stat bonus like the Ragnell. The Master Lance is probably the best one? Honestly, I've been thinking about going thru the game again trying bonuses Leif on a primary combat unit, but I just haven't gotten around to it.

Say you don't know any better and level Leif to 10. How do you make him the best he can possibly be?

Honestly, my solution just involves inheriting Vantage++ and swapping to Ike for Panette. I guess you could give him to Amber to help fix his kind of shit build. Lindon's got more build than that fucker.

Leaving Leif at rank 9 is absolutely the most retarded shit I've ever heard. Literally just have a better 1-2 range weapon in your inventory like a hand axe/tomahawk. The only case where it would choose the master lance because of weapon triangle is an enemy with a Levin sword and there are barely even a handful of those in the game. Crit builds are fucking gay in the first place. Just reach the ORKO threshold naturally.

Ok ok I will take the bait. The only character on whom a crit build is functional without DLC is too fucking slow to reach one-round thresholds naturally.

I was so disappointed when Engage came out because Leif is my favourite Lord. I was hoping he would have Capture mechanics and we would be able to take generics, or he would have movement stars/huge crit bonus on doubles like his game, robbing enemies of their weapons and getting money for the donation tab/armoury or even just authority stars. Such wasted potential.

Unironically, nothing screams to me how absurdly designed Engage is then creating a full suite of costumes and amiibo outfits and NOT letting you take them to battle where you will get to see them. Despite the last game getting a patch to resolve this issue.

Probaaabbblyy Binding Blade changes the most into a ridiculous game, as you just have no safe way of engaging foes with your shitty hit rates. Conquest will still be difficult but you don't really get many 1-2 range weapons outside of Shurikens anyway. Radiant Dawn also arguably becomes a pain but I think that's more not having Titania be a goddess anymore. Most other games are either player-phase enough that tank strats like that don't really matter or easy enough that no 1-2 range options changes nothing. It really is the GBA games that changes drastically and even then...

Honestly I don't think that matters for the discussion. Even if magic was still 1-2 range, there's not a lot of omnitank mages in the series, least none that are braindead as giving your Paladin a Javelin/Hand-Axe and hitting wait.

Speaking of arena enemies I really liked the concept of encountering recruitable characters if you beat them in the arena like Holyn in FE4. Disappointing that only ever happened again with a basically scripted fight for the worst character in FE7
