It just feels like the mage mechanics are just not compatible with the game, at least in solo.
I mean, it does do insane amount of damage if you can stay in one point and spam meditation + charge shots but the game isn't designed for that. Maybe if pala or merc buddies were a bit smarter at holding monsters, but then you run the risk of getting out of range real fast.
The defense boost is terrible and doesn't last long enough, the heal is terrible, switching between the mode takes too long because you had to hold the button, and the charge that the game clearly wants you to use is a huge mana sink even with meditation.

I finished up the main quest at about 20 hours and fucked around for another 5 hours after that.

It's basically 'progression/grinding autism' that keeps us going. Some people (including me, somewhat), get a thrill out of ranking up skills in a game even if its technically not rewarding in any tangible way.

Making better stuff for yourself, min-maxing your stats, etc, is all satisfying in a particular way, but yes the extremely shallow combat does impact my enjoyment severely, and is why I decided to drop it and go back to something else.

No you aren't missing anything, I'm borderline on enjoying grinding games like these. For example Elin is a similar game (build an outpost, grind stats, do dungeon for resources, collect from overworld), but has much deeper systems and you can interact with the game world in many more ways, which for me makes the grind feel like it has a payoff.

For me, this game has no payoff since its dumb baby shit all the way down, which I should have expected from the graphics and the company that made it. That's on my though for not dropping it earlier, but I figured since I was in deep I may as well finish the campaign.

There's a couple things I liked more but this one is pretty much an improvement

it had better world/cave design and the masters and your lives had better quests and more interactions, but other than that the sheer tedium and lack of qol made it feel really bad to play compared to FLI

Highly charming and sovlful but I could never go back to having to manually swap out lives every time. Nor the bounty system as neat as it was(FUCK accidentally nicking and breaking my napdragon bounty after I fought it 30 levels under for 20 minutes). No Rougewife either, and the sound and visual design of this game is just top-notch making it inherently more satisfying to play

I think I'm done with the game, got all lifes to hero, got all slate gacha equipments, all areas to rank 6, now I'm replaying RF4 special while waiting for guardian of azuma, great game and looking forward to the DLC update.

After fiddling with legendary events I do believe you can get more mats at lvl 80+, I've gotten 3 diamonds from ore a few times and just got double horns from a Don.

I liked that you felt more involved in the storyline of your respective lives more in the first one. I largely prefer this one but there are some small things like that that I miss.

End credits already hinted at what the DLC is going to be so I think the devs were already planning on an expansion ahead of time anyway. The sheer success this game has been getting is probably a surprise.

Only have the combat classes and gathering classes at hero so far. I've been slacking on the treasure Grove grind so I've been unable to complete the quests.

The amount they restore scales with their level but it's free at random intervals once you're below half, having two of them with you allows you to gather things above your level easily
If we want to have that benefit but also have the combat not be effortless we have to warp to Ginormosia and change party members every time we want to gather

It's amazing just how fucking dogshit mage actually is. At best they aren't even doing half the damage other jobs are. Their big attack that doesn't pierce and flings enemies across the room is weaker than paladin just spamming sword beams at point blank which does pierce and hits EVERYTHING in the room

They're better than gatherers in combat but still nowhere near combat buddies
While they're okay for gathering if you're gathering shit well out of your level but nowhere near as good at expediting farming or fishing as gathering buddies

For where they are on the sliding scale of non combat lifes, they're "okay". With the biggest boon they have being that they enable you to gather shit well out of your gear/equipment range due to infinite SP. It'll just take 9 years.

Instead of adding element to mage they need to add a weapon wheel. The entire elemental system is just dead at this point. You use the light weapon until you get the true time weapon.

No idea why they made element exclusive to staves like the other weapon, being able to use different elements was literally one or its drawing points.

more often than not you're gonna be facing either a collection of enemies or one big boss that's weak to one element, making switching unnecessary
and plus, in the 3DS title each element of magic behaved differently when cast, a level of complexity that just got in the way

i still say its better to separate spells based on function as they did, because it makes their applications clear while also adding some, as the buff series wasn't in the first game
but i would also agree that any weapon imbued with an element would apply a respective status ailment with their charge attacks, just to give an extra bonus when not playing toward elemental weaknesses

Swap from area rank 1 to 2 and keep going back and forth. It resets events and once you hit rank 3, legendary events start to spawn. If you get a gold crown, that's an easy 1k points

changing the area rank at a tower, up or down once, then checking the map, doing this can force spawn a legendary event for 1k area points.

change every area to rank 1 so the legends are level 40 and fast as fuck to kill, they drop the same legend loot regardless

i know you can't specify where they land but this truly is the best way

I decided to apprentice all the starting lives (except the two melee classes) and now the area I'm in has stones/trees that I don't need to level. It did say challenges can still done when you go back but are lives locked to specific era?
Also are specials or charge attacks better to invest in? I split between the both between Woodcutting/Mining but I kinda dislike both.

Problem I'm complaining about is that even having buddies not meant for combat still trivializes all combat until the very endgame, nothing's tuned against having four bodies all taking hits, drawing aggro, and healing for free

I'm starting to think it might be the only item specifically designed to not be obtainable.
Even just looking for silver/sugar forced me to explore the whole island for the specific beach area, you don't find silver anywhere else except the one very specific cave in that area.

But to be honest I've kind of been pushing it. When I realized that you could just grind away in Gino I completely stopped progressing the story to see how far I could go with this.
I'm hitting an average of level 50 but it's getting risky to improve the areas since I can't craft anything past silver for blacksmith. Can't go past adept because 3 crafts need the cotton for my 950 missing blue stars. And amusingly, most tools are also locked behind blacksmith progression.

But I'll have to continue at some point anyway since I eventually need to unlock Farmer & Artist. It was pretty fun to do though.

you need to have areas at rank 3 first before legendary events can spawn in them (it doesn't matter if it's lower than 3 after), so get everything to 3, then turn them all down to 1 then just spam rank changes checking the map each time
i usually get one on no more than 5 tries

gathering companions don't increase your stats but they will hit a node with you or they can independently gather stuff you command them to
their stats affects their damage and they unironically do pretty high dps to gather nodes and their special skills like stopping regen are great

Do the monsters and resources stay the same in Ginormosia? I've discovered the first 5 sections of the map so far, starting from thet tail, and it's all just sheep, copper, and oak. I've also upgraded an area rank to 3 and it's still the same type of resource/monster, just higher level.

Higher tier resources are further in. You first encounter platinum in depths in the present, it's level 40 or so, but in Gino it's level 16 always available.

go further out and you'll see different stuff. It's not linear and the iron is all the way at the back of the map past the gold and platinum
higher island rating increases it, but I only got ~225 last time I think so not by that much
Otherwise keep doing your activities for a small trickle of flowers. You get new ones as soon as you complete them so you can grind them out that way if your really want to. You can also go online and pick flowers from other peoples' islands
Also consider saving your stranglings until you hit island rank 5. The discount from 4 > 5 is massive, going from costing 70 per down to 40. You'll need 20 already human to get rank 5 but it's something to consider.

I opened a dark fire gate in lubul forest and the room just had one luminous tree and and literally an empty treasure chest. Is that normal? I feel like this seal didnt have any good reward.

If you visit other players' islands in multiplayer you can collect 1000 more per day, sometimes you have time to grab them while the host waits for players

the best one is the 50 in warren thing in the cave top of the capital - that has a tree, magic ore and some shadow enemies
