Of all the Capcom collections, it's one of the more worthwhile ones even if you can emulate. Whatever their in-house NAOMI emulator is works better than Flycast and every game in the collection is running on it (though apparently certain modes run console versions of a couple games from what I saw, not sure why) and having 4-player Power Stone isn't even possible on Flycast as far as I know. Obviously the gallery has a ton of great art because the games have great art, though the remixed music is a mixed bag; some of the Project Justice remixes are really good while others are slight downgrades, but the CvS2 arrangements vary WILDLY in quality with True Love Makin' being easily the worst which really blows.

It's also the only context I'd ever play CFJ, and just picking Hauzer in it makes it actually fun.

I've got 32 hours in it on Steam and was able to get Ranked games in just a few moments today despite queueing in only one game.

SNK games just don't have broad appeal in this, the year of our Lord 2025
Its most direct competitor (Dix) did everything right in terms of appealing to casuals, and it often goes on sale so really, it was an uphill battle from the start.
That said, I thought it would do slightly better than KoF XV and I'm a bit surprised, and disappointed that it hasn't been the case, I hope it picks up a bit after the Season 1 characters are all released.

Graphics are average at best and cartoony but not anime enough so it doesn't pull from any of the crowds like SF6 or Strive.

Marketing campaign did no favors for long term fans and didn't even bring in new casuals because the game doesn't look good enough. A disaster of marketing that only fuels the fire to shit on the game.

Pearl-clutching FGC shuns the game because of Ronaldo, Salvatore (who has since grown on the community) and Saudi money (even though Saudi money goes into other games as well but don't let them know that).

FGC e-celebs shat on the game pretty hard prior to launch, losing a lot of goodwill.

Game's features are lackluster compared to other current fighters.

Game launches, FGC E-celebs admit the game is fun, a return to form for fighters, but this isn't enough to get over the above issues.

Game's balance is questionable as the top tiers are pretty much dominate of anyone below.

But the only GG game with Johnny in the base roster is GG X and neither is that important to either game or series' success.

The first anon was right, it's mostly because people don't really care about Fatal Fury and SNK as a whole. The game being full price and the first beta sucking didn't help either.
Fatal Fury doesn't have a SF2 or a Tekken 3 tier game that makes casuals want to buy the game out of nostalgia. Even if CoTW was the best fighting game ever made it still would have flopped on release.

X to AC+R is the sweet spot. A genuine cornerstone of the genre. Xrd and not even Strive had the same cultural impact on fighting games.

They marketed it to normalfags because they didn't realize that it's not the 90s/early 2000s anymore and that normalfags don't play fighting games nowadays. Saudis likely agreed to pay for and handle all marketing and it had disastrous consequences.

New Virtua Fighter will be coming out with the only competition being Tekken 8, which is an edge it has over any other fighter trying to come back. COTW has to compete with Strive, SF6, Granblue, MK, Uni2, and others. As much as people say this genre is dead, there are a lot of 2D fighters clamoring for the audience. Consdering Tekken 8 has shat the bed, maybe Virtua Fighter has a good chance to put some competition back on 3D fighters.

Similar to what happened with Koei and DOA 6, SNK tried to appeal to the wrong people, the FGC, I speculate they thought winning the FGC crowd, would translate as winning the American market.
Other decisions that support this hypothesis would be the inclusion of an ENG dub, something not seen since KOF XII, the censorship of Mai, Hotaru and the design of Preecha. These decisions seem to have been made to please a really specific public.
The conclusion was inevitable, the FGC could not care less, the American market was not interested, and their real market China, ignored the game.
