I went FMJ into Galactic Knight and stayed a photon saber+dual guns build while levelling other classes for most of the game until near the end I turned to longsword+dg. It's fun.

Lightsaber is fun and you'll enjoy taking it back to use with dual guns.

Make sure you get Essence Exchange ASAP and pump your HP so you can have basically infinite TP. The aura that heals you on art use is fantastic for an EE build, but astrolibrium is also great if you're running beam saber instead of ether saber. Look for Melee Attack Up, Melee Attack Boost, and Arts Gain TP Up XX augs. They're hyper strong on this weapon.

For guns run either Psycho Launcher or Dual Guns. Rely heavily on melee arts though so your overdrive combos don't reset and let Starfall Rondo get to 3x cooldown for peak brutality. There's a skill that halves cooldowns during melee combos and another that boosts damage of melee combos. Get these.

How far are you into the game?
The further you get, the better you can augment your gear, which lets you push towards higher level enemies easier.
Also big things are just straight up stronger than small things at the same level.

generally the latter, though it depends.

As someone who stopped after chapter 4 in the original to try and 100% everything ASAP before progressing in the story, Overdrive makes a massive difference in what you're capable of at level 60. Yeah, I only had three manufacturers, but I was at the level cap with all classes and most characters maxed, a lot of the best armor from those manufacturers, and most of my Arts and skills maxed. There were a number of Tyrants that I couldn't beat even if I hired other level 60 players. Hayreddin is one thing, but things like that one autosentry with the incredibly high spike damage is another entirely. Quick cooldown probably would have been a godsend too, but I'm not far enough in this version to have it.

I don't know how much else I can recommend, there's definitely a point where yellow and even red enemies stop being a threat until the endgame enemies show up but without knowing your build it's hard to say much more.

absorber skin being better than shield wall for some reason because it can go to a higher tier (but is single target only)

slit edge being very spammable when you want to get rid of trash and don't want to bother with overdrive

It's pretty fun being able to hit the evasion cap so easily with knife with enormous amounts of healing a pretty good damage (obviously nowhere near longsword)

Longsword might be S tier in damage but Knife is S tier in support.
Support don't matter when shit dies instantly, though.

There's no quick way, but since you're using knife just brainjack some poor insect and spam servant sacrifice. It heals half your tp at lv5 so it should be fast.

Original X didn't have the ability to just pick the name of an armour set. You had to slot in an actual piece of equipment. That made "None" impossible in all slots, but they realized that it would be a problem for the head slot in particular, so they put in the option to hide all headgear as a shitty workaround.

For whatever reason, they didn't remove that workaround in X DE. And since it exists, it would appear (at a quick glance) to make the "None" option in the head redundant, so they just didn't bother adding it.

Usually people just craft a lot of slayer [insert species here] but if you wanna play properly, then use a lot of low cooldown weapons to fish for cockpit time so you can shoot zenith cannon over and over. Ares90 can't do this because the loadout is fixed.

Another cool thing about weapon combos is that the game promotes mixing them through your party members. Very early you get people like Doug, L, H.B and Irina who are all using custom sets instead of being stuck with their class defaults, showing you how the mechanic can be used to create different playstyles. It will definitely give you ideas like astral protection+shields for maximum tanking.

Nearly all additives are added to the same number, so yeah having two attribute damage boosts in different places is just the first boost+the second.
There are some independent multipliers though, like Offensive Stance straight up triples your entire damage output after additives were already factored in.

Yeah, knife + ranged main has no protection whatsoever. You either run a topple lock or sleep lock.

Don't hellfire unless your build is entirely dedicated to that.
Use bullet storm/twister for damage and swap your potential augs with attribute res.

If you prefer Hellfire in general, then Shield/Gatling might be a better combo because you can use reflect along with stacking potential.

Gradivus doesn't require that much res in the first place. You might want to use a healing art instead since you aren't getting oneshot by most things.

Tanking is shaky but possible, that's mostly because X enemies have many AoE arts so building a tank party member might not protect you as much, unless you are going solo and stack attribute res. Well, it's not something I would ignore in early to mid game at least.
Healing is a little underrated imo, like yeah the game doesn't have many healers but the ones you can use are pretty good. Irina and L are particularly high tier party members, and if you want to heal yourself you can be even better.

Yes.
For main game content pair them with Knife or Dual Guns, and watch big numbers fly all over the screen.
For post-game superbosses that can one shot you, switch to Shield to reflect and give yourself a decent potential boost, then watch more numbers fly all over the screen.
Both thermal and ether are viable with galting, ether does stronger hellfires but thermal allows you to use more gatling arts
Both potential and ranged attack are good ideas, but pick one stat to minmax for better results.
Click Hellfire.

Does anyone who how exactly AttributeDmg augments increases skell damage in calulations, and if it's limited to the weapon it's on or applies to all weapons that use that element?

It's pretty fun if you love sci-fi, open world exploration and offline MMO combat.
For me, it's as close as we'll ever get to an actually good Stargate game.

I mean, that's irrelevant to clearing decoy. The glitch only allowed you to have full damage + full hit count on the right hand weapon. Just take the damage hit and go full hit count.

For core crusher, yes. If you were using appendage crusher with the goal of actually smashing all appendages, no. Though in that case, just use m-missiles if you can use a skell to fight whatever it is.

IIRC Blaze and Choc damage scale off of the power of the attack that inflicted the status, so in a way, yes, boosting your thermal damage also boosts your Blaze damage, because it's calculated off of your boosted hit.

Actually yes, Blaze damage = thermal damage.
As proof, try inflicting thermal res down on an enemy already in blaze, your DoT is actually going to do more.

That's also a thing yeah, but the scaling is going to be a little weirder because blaze/shock take the current enemy resistance against thermal/electric in consideration. Make sure you are always carrying the appropriate debuff.

Technically, it's because attacks that inflict Blaze are usually Thermal by nature, and Blaze is calculated based on the power of the hit that inflicts it, so YES, inflicting thermal res down boosts Blaze power, because it boosts the damage of the thermal hit that afflicts Blaze
