I like to load up big wads like Sunder or Abandon, turn on invulnerability and just wander around enjoying the scenery.
I'm not very good at Doom but I appreciate the talent in the map making community.

Golden Souls. Surprisingly fun.
Golden Souls 2 filtered me though. Levels are WAY too big to find all the big coins. Fuck that.

Why do all wads always shit out slaughter-maps by the end? I prefer the smaller tactical maps over killing 39874298753 demons.
I find the monsters add to the atmosphere. Plus it's fun making them all infight.

I don't think people realize what "End" means. If you manage to reach the end while having fun, it means the designer has done his job right. Now, the designer can go all out with his vision for the end levels without worrying if it's a bad idea or not. (It often is, but it also leads to kino once in a while).
My problem is most wads have cakewalk early level.
I love the early levels. Limited weapons, limited space, and limited demons makes each encounter more tense and it forces the creator to focus on what types of monsters he groups up, not just flooding a room with 100 archviles.
What are the best wads to combine with this?

Played that recently! Loved the contrasts and the way it made the world feel like a real cyberpunk hellscape. Cool wad.
I prefer Zeppelin Armada (with High Noon Drifter for that full on weird west/steampunk Victorian feel), but they're both damn good DBPs.
Can't recall the last one I played through, but some good ones off the top of my head (all megawads btw):
Alien Vendetta (the obvious undisputed king of wads)
Speed of Doom (hard af later on but whatever)
Eternal Doom (puzzles are frustrating but it's still quite fun)
Scythe 2 (why didn't Erik Alm ever finish Scythe X btw?!?!?!?!?!)
Eviternity 2 (fantastic level design but admittedly gets boring around the medieval esque levels)
Hell Revealed (primitive but hard and fun)
Still haven't played shit like Ancient Aliens yet. I last played through TNT Devilution now that I recall but I was honestly a tad disappointed with it.

currently playing endless madness 2, took a break like halfway through the second level because i am slow.
so far it's pretty cool, i'm mostly surprised that it seems to be an actual real thing despite being an april fools release. i guess the joke was just endless madness getting a sequel in the first place.

i tried firing up They Flesh Consumed but it's just not fun anymore. give me some good Wads to rekindle the flame.
