I just finished the main story. Aside from the flaws of the UX and the pacing issues in the middle, this game is the FF I've been wanting for 20+ years after X.

Art direction and OST are absolutely stellar. Combat and progression systems are a logical modern evolution on four niggers in a row. The story starts off strong, then does become a bit of a slog because of how much it insists on vagueness and withholding any real exposiiton until the final quarter of the game, but when you get there the payoff is immense.

I beat the area after getting Maelle and while the combat is enjoyable it's a bit too combat-heavy with too little story development to keep me interested so far.

Even those filler areas had amazing visual design and music so I enjoyed my time through them

Yeah the Axons, especially Visages with the mask guy felt like filler or a repurposed arc that got cut or downsized. Especially with how each gives Sciel and Lune a deus ex machina moment that makes no fucking sense.
But then Sirene was absolute fucking kino.

I like it. It's a simple game but feels like the devs cared and the writing doesn't make me wanna strangle whoever was responsible. Dunno if it stays that way but a few hours in it's still solid.

I'll say that I saw the twist in Metaphor coming from a thousand miles away in the first minutes of the game. E33's twist kept me guessing until the reveal, although one of my guesses did get close.

E33's only flaw compared to Metaphor is that it doesn't have in-battle party member switching. I feel that should be a standard for the genre.

For me Metaphor was like a 7-8/10, felt competent with some flaws, but it didn't surprise me in any way because I played the Persona games before, also just too few music tracks for how fucking long of a game it is, like what's there is great, but it gets repetitive
In terms of music and environmental design Clair Obscur shits on pretty much anything I've ever played, those are the areas that wowed me a lot throughout playing it

I think its very good. These chicks are pretty hot, great music, visually interesting, a nice, more engaging feel to the combat with dodges and parries you need to hit or else. Its a turn based soulslike! The story takes itself seriously and starts off compelling. We’ll see if it goes anywhere but the game very fun 15 hours in. It’s priced like a video game should be, not asking the user to overpay for their bloated staff’s health benefits.

i'm like 5 hours in, at the area with all the red trees right now, and there's a lot of stuff that falls under the category of "too soon to judge" but i do have a few thoughts so far. yes, there's #soul and it's not forced soul, though with all the reddit-type shilling surrounding this game i do get why some might think that. other than the conveniently placed climbing ledges, nothing about this game feels like it could've come from people that worked at ubishit. while the game does look very good, this is also the first UE5 game i've played where i now absolutely understand the gripes about it from people who claim that every game in this engine looks the same. more specifically, there's A LOT of parts of the design here that remind me of Lords of the Fallen.

From what I've seen it is relatively great in most aspects but for a 'jrpg' it is pretty short. An IGN reviewer beat it in 20~ hours including a decent amount of side content. So a real gamer could probably beat it 100% in 18h or so. I'll wait for a steeper sale merely because it's a bit shorter than I'd pay money for but I am gonna eventually pick it up.

People throw around FF and Purseowner a lot but personally my own vibe from it was more "Lost Odyssey 2" so i think if you find it good or not depends on how you saw/enjoyed Lost Odyssey back in the day right down to the "Antithesis to new (Current) FF" narrative thing, i must say that audio balancing seems kinda fuckey (Or it was just my computer), like the music is good, but sometimes it is extremely quiet so you can barely hear it only to go speaker shattering loud even in the same cutscene, and swear it is specifically the game since the OST had things be just fine, but i never see people praising the game bring up minor negatives like that, so i do get "Shilling" vibes.

I also think it is kinda pressing boundaries on being comfortably runnable for toasters, so there is probably also sour grapes in the anti-camp too.
