Cool. I'm having a hard time with the evasion mechanics of the game. I'm not good at QTEs and never was.

Get that weapon that gives her stains with her gun, get the shit that apply marked, get the thing that gives you 2 AP on shooting marked and the thing that starts you with +1 AP and now you can shoot 4 times and have 3 AP spare to use her giga nuke that requires consuming 4 stains. That's been how I've used her so far and she's clearing as my main damage dealer.

There's a program called BetterJoy that can make it work on Gamepass, but when I tried it with this game the deadzone on my controller was fucked, like it couldn't detect a full run even when the stick was pushed to the max

It works through steam, though sprinting is kinda finicky. I have to use keyboard for any platforming sections where I need to run and jump.

As with most characters it gets better in the late game, I felt like only Verso and Maelle felt good throughout all their availability, Lune was okay with some weapons too, but didn't feel as powerful
Towards the end I got her a lot of crit and sources of AP so she quickly got into Twilight State and able to spam her high cost moves, which hit like a truck
She also has a really good lvl 2 Gradient Attack

She's by far the most reliable high DPS of the game despite how RNG her build supposedly is (basically exploiting the 20% burn/mark on free aim). The stain on free aim weapon is absolutely broken and allows you to chain 2 turns Elemental Genesis with just a little bit of adjusting with her other spells like Immolation and Thermal Transfer. She is this game's Melia, unless you understand what's broken about her, you'll find her shit.

Despite having an extremely good early game DPS, Sciel gets severely limited by the need of using a turn to apply her main mechanic on enemies but she probably still keeps the best supporting array of skills of the team. Gustave/Verso are the real "dead weights" of the game, even Monoko can absolutely rape enemies who spend their time stacking shields on themselves among other things.

You have to use the audio/visual clues. Most enemies have a "tell." Mostly it's when their weapon (or hand) starts moving towards you, but some will make a "hah!" sound as they're just about to attack, or have some kind of visual cue. You'll get the hang of it, it's not all "practice and memorize each enemy pattenr." After a while you get accustomed to the logic of it.

A better analogy would be TLOU2 with killing off Joel. Joel's daughter isn't set up as the protagonist of the game only to be unceremoniously killed off without any satisfying thematic pay off to his arc. It's also weird when you this game and TLOU1 have very similarly started.

I just feel if they were going to do it it should have happened earlier or way later. Happening 1/3 of the way through the game just made his inclusion in the story in the first place feel weird.

Practice dodging. If you get a perfect dodge, it's the same timing as parry. Listening to audio cues also helps.

If you can't parry, equip dodger and just dodge. I can't 100% parry some of the harder bosses so I just have no shame and dodge instead.

Honestly, Gustave looks more like Charlie Cox with a beard than Robert Pattinson.

It would be even more obvious if he only has like a dozen skills compared to everyone else. Better to make people think they're locked behind story progress

I would be fine with it if he actually had any lasting impact on the story going forward in the way that Aerith did with the way her death drives the other characters and her lore relevancy as an ancient but Gustave basically gets all but abandoned and pretty much forgotten about by the story. The way Versa just replaces him as the protagonist honestly felt pretty insulting. Like they didn't even try to weave his death smoothly into the narrative.

Focus on the glowing Vestral if you're having issues keeping up. They do double raft damage.

The time between the shots is literally the exact same as the delay between your R1 so if you're a bit late and the thing hits you, you basically need to stop and let the next one hit you to readjust your timing otherwise you will be permanently behind.

He fires at a constant speed that gives you just enough time to hit the next one. He's actually the easiest one because he has zero speed variation you just get as close to the front as possible and next one will always be in range the moment it recharges and you adjust your direction during the downtime.

I agree that Verso sliding in to conveniently replace Gustave was kinda wonky. In-story, I feel it was a necessary parallel between the feeling of loss Maelle and Alicia experience. Thus influencing Alicia's attempt to remake the painting of Lumiere to live out a delusion and deflect her grief. If there was one edit I would've made, I would've had Verso join the party whilst Gustave was still alive, even for 1-3 battles worth so that his joining the party didn't feel so contrived.

During the battle tower he gets a skill that goes up in power every time its used. Luckily at the time I already had most of the pieces needed to be able to use this skill every single turn powered up.
I also already had a weapon that SAYS he gets 30% more damage every time he uses a powered up skill but honestly Im not entirely sure this really works the way it says it does. Either way it couldnt have hurt.

You can try gunning for the lumina that grants you 3 Shields at battle start at the southern most area which is available as soon as you can swin.
The enemies here are hard as fuck thought so try luring them away from the item and run circles to get it.
No matter how much damage your characters take, 1 hit is still just 1 shield.

Pure traditional turn based with counter/dodge/activate attacks. No woke shit. Lot of customization. Great game but if you like JRPGs but I can see the dodge/parry mechanics filtering some. First RPG I’ve played where I legit love every character even the mascots.

i'm convinced the facial capture/tracking is broken for Maelle and maybe some of the other girls. The male character's faces look fine but for Maelle especially her eyes always look like they're fully opened and unable to emote.

It's turn-based like classic FFs, but you can parry or dodge your enemies' attacks. If you don't, you get one shot. You can do hitless runs if you're good enough

Clearly designated campaign when traversing the open world with clearly indicated optional areas you can explore for fun and experience. It's a very focused game. You can tear through the story in around 20 hours or take time out for fun side quests like finding a secret gestral fight club where you beat up on guys with little heads. You're in for one of the best games you've played in a long time, rpg or otherwise. I'd argue this is FFVII in the 90s level of a home run.

Each character in your party has a unique playstyle too.

The game has linear story but right out the gate you can explore part of the over world and do side content and mark stuff down for later visits. The open world opens up more and more as your vehicle mascot upgrades with the story. Areas you visit also aren’t generally very linear either. Lots of side paths leading to abilities, collectibles, and side bosses. IMO this is peak evolution of the JRPG genre.

Wish we could mark the areas we've already been to on the world map. The game needs some QoL changes.

It's not really an issue, but I wish there was a refashion options for weapons like in Nioh. Some of the weapons, especially the swords and scythes are freaking ugly and more than once I had to stop using a good weapon becaue of it.

I've only played expert but pretty much everything one shots you unless you invest into defences which will make your damage suck, so what I've been doing is maximizing damage at the cost of defense/healing, it basically turns into a kill or be killed mode, but once I found the picto that gives you 3 shields at the start of a fight it became a lot easier.

PC will run it fine anon. I play on a 3060ti laptop and it works well besides some small fps drops in some areas.
