If people can afford to even get a fucking PS5 pro, then 450 isn't a lot. The problem for many people are the games and not even in a "I can't afford it" way. People are worried that the price of the next gen is going to be more unless they send the message now. Idiots don't care, they are only interested in short term fun. I wish more people cared, so that we aren't going to have to pay 1/5th of the console price in the future, for every single game that comes out.
I'm willing to call it fake news. Today I browsed online shops in my country and found the preorder in stock in multiple places. People know that a recession is coming and will just keep playing on their old consoles. Even the ones who buy Switch 2 will not buy many games for it because they still have their entire library from Switch 1 available. Nintendo is going to have their PlayStation 5 moment and increase prices on hardware to cope lol.

Switch 2 is about as powerful as a PS4, actually. Its GPU is weaker than the weakest mobile RTX 3000-series card, that being 3050 4GB.

The retailers have been aggressively culling bot/unverified orders. A lot of places are expected to get new allotments before launch too. I don't think the entire launch day stock is truly as "sold out" as it looks even though Nintendo will probably definitely be straining to meet demand.
