Pretentious.
Pretentious
We'll never get an actually complex story in any game because devs HAVE to create for the lowest IQ retarded masses.
one of my favorite games despite it basically being just a walking sim.
fuck you.
walking sim
No shit sherlock.
Tell us about the coin flip, did you understand?
it's not really complex unless you're a vtard
That's what was saying, they dumbed down Soma so much that it barely even matters.
Game ends with Simon calling for his ai Asian gf like a simp
It doesn't end with him trying to reconnect with his diving suit version
Sorry, I don't care about defeatist narratives.
Simon is a retarded whiny baby and for the life of me I can't understand how he thought the coin flip was a real thing.
He's been working on the follow up for 10 years now
Literal, unironic brain damage
Both Simon's and yours for not remembering
Simon should've cloned himself a million times and created a society of homos to rule what's left of the earth
It is pretentious, but also really good.
The one half if not more of the playerbase euthanized?
I'm not sure if Simon was even able to get out of the launch room without the omni-tool.
His robot body was running on a battery, obviously that wouldn't keep him animated forever.
He and the Pathos survivors who seriously talked about that were very clearly desperate beings grasping at bad logic just so they could tell themselves there was a real chance of escaping the underwater shithole into paradise. Getting on to the Ark was the point of Simon's whole quest and the motive driving him to push on, not hard to believe he'd block out the truth just to keep going forward
I liked the mystery, but other than that, it was meh.
The one half if not more of the playerbase euthanized
Like I said, I don't care about defeatist narratives. Not all thought experiments are worth exploring, even in sci-fi settings.
Now that you put it like that I have to agree.
But it was, you can literally see in the game how he won the coinflip the first time but lost the second. Dumb of him to believe he'd win twice in a row which was statistically impossible.
Case in point. Its due to people like you being the target audience, that anything with more complex stories or themes is off the table. You couldn't even comprehend one sentence that had more than five syllables.
Nta but the coin flip is a lie she's using to manipulate the mentally handicapped protagonist to go along with her retarded plan.
I would have loved the game if the writing wasn't that atrocious. It's peak liberal word view. Instead of repairing or rebuilding anything they're just putting humanity on life support to die a few hundred years later. I've never seen a more meaningless and pointless main quest than this one.
existential questions are liberal
anon you're a fucking retard. it's supposed to be a work of scienci-fiction to make you think about important questions.
I can't understand how he thought the coin flip was a real thing
because he was holding on to hope despite it being clearly fake. it's also why people believe in afterlife and reincarnation.
he won the coinflip the first time
anon...
They had no ability to 'rebuild' or 'repair' anything, they were facility with a very specific function entirely dependent on the civilization above to sustain them, and by how bad the game was making the impact to be, it sounded like an extinction event where recovery would mean more something like life evolving again in millions of years
That's because you lack mental fortitude.
only because Simon is the dumbest motherfucker alive
Calling it pretentious is pretentious
statistically impossible
You mean 1 in 4?
He had brain injury, so it makes sense.
Creating a digital heaven for a digital copy of yourself to float in space until it eventually breaks down is not an existential question. It's retarded.
It's only an existential question if you're stupid and don't know the slightest about how computers and data work. If the story was about clones instead of AI copies nobody would think it's deep but because the inner workings of a computer might as well be magic for average Redditor they think it's deep.
There is no coin flip. The copy is always a new being and killing yourself doesn't change anything.
The entire game are essentially the memories of the most interesting forks.
The suicides were just cope.
It's an existential crisis sim and it succeeded. It got you thinking - that's what scifi is suppose to do - world building and thinking about stuff. Awesome story and one of the best atmospheres I've ever experienced.
This. With retards like above that need their hand held and a simplistic 5 year old MCU tier story where "da good guys win again!!."
Extinction for humans. You are a robot and so is everyone else except for one human. I can't imagine the impact was so bad that even robots can't survive on the surface.
Knowledge is power, ignorance is bliss. Some people would sell their soul to Satan to reign on Earth for 50 years then suffer in hell for an eternity. Yes the arc is gonna break down eventually.... WE ALL ARE GONNA BREAK DOWN AND DIE EVENTUALLY. Why do you still get out of bed every morning? To do something with the goal of making it one day. That's another way you could view the story - guy is trying to make it to paradise and escape hell. You're telling me you wouldn't do the same?
They also had 2 fertile women still left on Earth (the black one hooked to the artificial lung, Sarah Lindwall the one you euthanize).
I fucking despise this bugman defeatist attitude.
You know what the essence of life is? Defiance against decay and entropy.
Not without a fucking fight.
inb4 muh 2 people bottleneck
Look, I know more about biology than you, and I tell you you can bootstrap an entire species out of 2 mothers.
Not least because you have plenty of genetic material from other people. You only create 2-3 inbred generations.
The coin flip is real to the simon who ends up in the better position. Also to the player for which simon you play as.
It's called being a productive member of society. If I die, humanity will live on. If the ark breaks, humanity ends.
Instead of wasting time and energy on the ark they should have created robots to put their digital copies in but they all choose the pleasant dream instead of the unpleasant reality. It's ironic that the crazy AI did more to preserve humanity than the actual humans.
What they did is the equivalent of putting yourself into a coma until you die because work is too hard for you.
I agree that the ending is stupid and kind of ruins it but I still really enjoyed the entire other 90% of the game. Absolutely top notch atmosphere, writing, pacing and voice acting... until the """coin flip""" bullshit. Still, haven't really seen anything else that can match the rest of the game.
They weren't able to make infinite robots either, they were scavenging shit to keep Simon moving
Both of them were in no position to be having babies, lol.
They could have started reproducing en masse after the comet hit, but they knew they were on limited food and water. Didn't help that the WAU then decided to start killing people. Information about the surface seems minimal so I guess they didn't even try to get back up there. Not that they really had any means to do so or any way of getting back to land. It was only like 6 months from the impact to when the WAU went nuts, and you'd probably want to wait at least a few years post impact before attempting to make it to land.
