Is it really that good or is it just another FotM that will soon be forgotten?
Is it really that good or is it just another FotM that will soon be forgotten?
It's unironically the best JRPG ever made.
You say that like it's actually impressive. It's definitely not better than Souls though
Is it really that good
Depends on who you ask. It's a pretty game with music, for all the movie game people. It also got difficulty settings for all the movie game people. It has parry for all the parry people. It has turn based for all the turn based people.
I for one think the game is pretty boring, no hack and slash for little dumb me. No loot drops for my dopamine and no good cutscenes for a rpg.
makes money off of your shitposts
How do you respond without sounding mad Anon Babble?
it's great
I'd rate it at the same level as ff10, kind of have the same pros and cons. it's good a far as jarpigs go
GOTY

It’s not like Anon Babble shitposts are gonna contribute anything meaningful to society anyway, making Elonbucks off this is based.
100% fotm just like blue prince or w/e its called
fucking forgotten already after all the glowing praise. just a mindless slop machine trying to get people to consume their low effort trash
It's pretty good. Most games don't peak again in their 2nd week. Not even the Oblivion remaster did that and it came out around the same time.
forgotten
reached player peek today
why can't you tendies even read the OP before posting?
I feel like every fucking JRPG that isn't shit gets that label. Persona 5 was "the best JRPG ever", then it was metaphor and now it's this.
All time peak of 100,000 like thats alot lmao. fucking princess peach sold more and had more players lmao
french devs
unreal engine 5
it could be the best game ever made (its not) but because of these reasons i m not playing, simple as
try some reading comprehension you stupid faggot i was talking about blue prince how it was already forgotten , do you want me to re type the entire message again faggot? i dont care about player count charts on steam half the fucking shit are bots
Is it still worth getting into reposting Anon Babble posts on Twitter or is that a red ocean market already?
I've had X for like 72 hours and have two random followers. How long before I get 200k and become NEET who lives off Elon's graces?
It's FotM, it will eventually be forgotten, but that doesn't mean the game is bad, it's very good but not game of the decade good. It's not a modern classic that games will be compared to in the future and it's not gonna be discussed in a few years like Elden Ring or BotW still are.
The peak is Asia realizing this game exists and it appeals to their sensibilites (turn based, all white cast, cute 15yo party member, gameplay and progression lifted straight from classic FF, great OST, story about killing a god etc...).
People are just mentally retarded lately and they can't work in nuance so they go to extremes. It IS fotm... it's also good. It's fotm the way pizza tower or hi-fi rush was fotm. In a year people will sort of remember it but there will be a new fotm, and so on. It's not the best game of all time, it's just GOOD.
It'll sweep the game awards, not that it matters.
I'm trying to finish it, but outside of the music it just hasn't really grabbed my attention. It's not as mechanically deep as Nioh 2, which I finished Dream of the Samurai recently, nor is it as intense as Khazan which I already did all 3 NG+ on.
It's just very French, very pretty, and....that's about it. The turn-based parts and the real time QTE's (lets be honest that's what they are) don't mesh as well as I suspect the devs intended as the parry timings are oddly very strict for a game of this genre. Not even the souls likes have parry timings this precise yet some of the fights feel like parries are practically required.
It's not the worst thing I've ever played, but I'm not having that much fun with it.
i like things that are very french.

We got shit-ception over here.
Kill yourself pirat_nation
I'm trying to finish it, but outside of the music it just hasn't really grabbed my attention
Ill be honest the music is good but it doesnt have one memorable soundtrack
I'm not going to call you a shill, but you need to use the goddam catalog or get treated like spammers.
This is not counting the 10 other established threads with 50 or more posts in the catalog already.
Four steps behind the curve. You aren't beating auto generators.
Will I like it? Because I thought Khazan was complete garbage.
just finished, its that good
play it instead of lurking here, the story is a 10 but has many spoiler ruining moments. ive avoided internet all week whilst playing and im glad i did
this game will sweep the game awards and it deserves it
It's that good. It's the FF I've wanted that SE has never made after Squaresoft. I hope we get more and it's not a one-hit wonder.
youtu.be
It is the best jrpg I've played since lost odyssey. It's a bit too easy though even on expert. The systems are cool but you can have broken builds.
Well if you like watching a game more than playing it, sure. I liked Khazan for being a really good action game that took a little time to find its footing. I don't really like Expedition because it's spent about 4 of the 5 hours I've played of it sticking me in cutscenes.
I don't like that sort of thing.
World map theme gets stuck in my head but I don't speak French so it's like... Pooonwaaaabeeaaa
it's probably as close to a spiritual successor for lost odyssey as we'll ever get
Ok well yeah I like narrative games with a good focus on gameplay as well like old FF. Khazan was just boss rush to me and I didn't like the artstyle at all
There are only 4 hours of cutscenes in the entire game though.
Wait, correction, I've played it for 9 hours, with 4 being lots of cutscenes and dialogue. Still not great.
One of the best videogames I've played in my 15 year career
the parry timings are oddly very strict for a game of this genre
I'm glad I'm not the only one to think that, at some point I started think that there was a problem with my setup and even changed to a PS4 controller because I'm usually pretty good at games that require precise button presses. I feel like the mechanic is very inconsistent and almost designed to fuck with the player. And I'm also torn on it, on one side it's very rewarding to kill a late game enemy early after 20 minutes of a butthole clenching fight, on the other the parry is so overpowered that it completely destroys the purpose of turn based combat, this sort of mechanic works better when it only mitigates incoming damage.
This but TWEWY and FF9 are still better. Nothing wrong with being 3rd best though
I dodge until I get perfect dodges, then I parry since it's the same timing. Some enemy animations are bullshit though and I can't learn the timing.
Currently it is feeling like a top 10-20 game of all time for me. However, this is just an instant reaction to it and I need to sit with it for a while. However, I will say it is easily better than the vast majority of slop released this generation.
The window is thinner than sekiro
I'm level 60, start of act 3.
Should I just go for the main storyline?
You can always dodge. People who try to force themselves to parry everything and then complain about it are silly. I dodged more than I parried and I beat the game on Expert. Typically I dodged and when I'd get all perfect dodges I'd go for parries.
It's 0.15 seconds irrc
You should do the main story because after you beat it you get put back at a save before the final story and you'll actually get to enjoy the final boss instead of one shotting it. Then you can go do the super bosses which have cutscenes and story associated with them and are important to the entire thing.
thanks
I think it will stand the test of time due to how much of an emotional impact it made on many. Really have not played a game like this in years, and few of them release anymore.
Yes, you're still free to do all optional content afterward, if you do those now you'll be way overleveled.
I've defaulted to dodging because the parry feels pretty bad. If nothing else Maelle is turning out to be best girl for her ability to dump stupid amounts of damage on targets and fast.
All games are FotM these days. So many releases only controversy can really let a game stay in mainstream attention for longer periods.
FOTM slop
reaction based mini game with edward cullen
better than pokemon gen 1-5
better than ff6-10
better than smt/persona
Yeah sure anon
It's a masterpiece.
It's funny, I don't think any game in a long time has been able to give the proper emotional impact to an "escapism bad" parable.
Persona 5 Royal tried it. But when the theme comes up oldfags mostly still mention FF Tactics Advance. I think now people will mention E33 instead.
Just finished Act 2. It's definitely landing in my top 10 all-time favourite vidya. I thought myself jaded, but this game showed that there's still room in me for whimsy. I doubt it's going away anytime soon.
loved act 2 ending, this scene had some kojima tier directing
youtu.be
level up defense and hp
no longer a reaction based minigame
wooooow
I wouldn't say the best but it's a jrpg that actually has a fucking overworld that is ok and gameplay that isn't garbage ass xenoblade white so it's a solid 10/10 from modern jrpg standards unironically
you have no idea how over it is
pic related is dated btw, now everything is automated and 10000 times worse
Electric Tides
finally someone with kino taste
unreal engine 5
the cut scenes look like shit but the rest of the game runs fine at 60fps+ as long as your oldest piece of hardware is ~5yrs old
Probably because its not just le escapism bad, its on top of addiction and grief.
Renoir said they painted hundreds of worlds, Alicia and Verso used to play in the canvass for fun when they were kids, it only became a huge shitshow after the fire
Payed it for 2 h. It's alright. If I wanted to play more of it, I would be forcing myself. The music is good in the moment but forgettable when that moment is over. I literally cannot remember a single track or even what the battle theme is. The characters are fine, I guess. Same with the story. The art style is murky. I don't like realistic looking games. The combat is not as fun as something like SMT, which is probably the closet I could describe it as. Whilst the game is definitely better than most modern games being released, it's not something I, someone who enjoys jrps, really like that much. That said, I'm only 2 h in, but I really have no desire to continue other than to see moar of Mealle, since she's a cutie.
I'd say, at least do the underwater level because it opens up from there. If that's still not your thing just drop it.
For battle theme, there isn't one. All areas have specific battle themes. It makes for more variety but could also make it less memorable.
For me, it's top 3 OST of all time, especially how diverse it is.
the game is good
but it's being sold to you by people who think it's thrice as good as it actually is (30 something year old FF7 fans who have a hard time enjoying anything else)
I'd say, at least do the underwater level because it opens up from there. If that's still not your thing just drop it.
I'm currently in the cave where Gustave reunites with Lune and they beat a boss. How long would you say it would take me to get there if I'm somewhat of a slow player?
You're really at the start. I'm slow as well. I's say you will need an hour to reach it, and one hour to complete it.
GRUG LIKE PUSHING TIMED BUTTON
JRPGs were always a bit boring to me. This one makes it a bit more fun. I like that you don’t really have to grind. Just don’t skip encounters and explore what you can.
The dodge shit is stressful as fuck for me. It’s not hard, but when you meet new enemies it’s just a pain in the ass to get your ass kicked by some of them until you master their timing and the stress is honestly interfering with the fun in a way souls likes don’t. The JRPG repetition and the stress aren’t the ideal mix.
I can also tell where this was an indie like in some shallow places. But the beauty overall is consistent and extremely high quality.
I do like how your skill as a player basically levels up through a zone as you encounter the new enemies over and over and get used to them, at the same pace your characters level up.
Already forgotten desu
Alright, thanks. I think I might manage that, at least.
Just to be thorough, how long will it take me to get Maelle? She reminds me how Elly from Persona 1 who I love to death.
You get Maelle mid-underwater level, so I guess 1h30 from your location
7/10 game
Alright, thanks. I'll play some tomorrow and see if I like it.
I like that you don’t really have to grind.
It's not really anything new. Romancing SaGa 2 punishes grinding by making enemies more powerful (though I did find myself going for an encounter or two from time to time when I lacked money for an upgrade). Black Souls straight up allows for lvl 1 runs to be performed. I heard FFXII does too, but I never played that one.
The dodge shit is stressful as fuck for me. It’s not hard, but when you meet new enemies it’s just a pain in the ass to get your ass kicked by some of them until you master their timing
It might be obvious, but don't attempt to parry until you feel comfortable dodging. Also, invest in vitality/defence. The encounters may take longer, but at least you won't need to repeat them.
The game also gets easier the more pictos you have. Shield on death/revive, greater shell, powerless - you have lots of options to reduce enemy damage.
Yeah I just finally grok’d what Pictos do. Thought they were over complicated at first now I just realize it’s a slightly tedious menu thing that powers up very effortlessly and is very useful.
Just not quite sure about which skills are best but I think that’s the full complexity of the game and it’s just a nice steady pace with fun combos as you scale up.
Good point about vitality. I often beat enemies before I’ve fully deployed a combo especially Lune’s charges. Like the skills want you to have a lot of turns to fully use them.
Just not quite sure about which skills are best
The highest damaging skill is not necessarily the best one. You need to be alive to deploy them, and unless you're a parry god, you'll need some help. Status effects are important, you can also use the Maelle skill which turns her into a dedicated tank. There are lots of viable ways you can build characters; elemental build, physical build, burn build, tank build, support build. Experiment, you get plenty of repaint items to reset your skill tree.
Yeah I’d say the game has a nice pace and cadence.
