Canceled Video Games

Talked about canceled or early versions of games that you wish got finished.

The dlc for vtmb and the first person shooter sequel to Arcanum

No idea if it was even scrapped, but As Dusk Falls season 2.

Stereotypical answer but Megaman Legends

Journey to the Center of Arcanum

Made in the Source engine

How come I've never heard of this before
Still mad about this one

The original Ultima IX

Ultima X

I will never forgive EA

Dead or Alive: Code Chronos (Ayane spin-off game) and Project Progressive. An Ayane spin-off game sounds cool as hell, and the concept art we've seen for Project Progressive looked really cool.

Red Stinger, the fact that I'll never get an answer to Blue Stinger's cliffhanger ending due to the creator's passing sucks

Titanfall 3 got cancelled like 4 times already

Disco elysium city of locusts

True Fantasy Live Online makes me so sad:

Dark Cloud 3 becomes Rogue Galaxy

However they list Dark Cloud 3 for the PS3 after Rogue Galaxy got released

Level-5 said they want to make a sequel but Sony doesn't allow them

Why does every publisher fuck this company

Just looked up the Project Progressive concept art, hadn't seen them before they look really cool thanks.

oni didn't deserve a sequel

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Lynch's_unrealized_projects#Woodcutters_from_Fiery_Ships_video_game

In 1998, Synergy Interactive, a Japanese video game production company, announced that it was developing a computer game called Woodcutters from Fiery Ships, designed primarily by Lynch. Lynch was impressed with its earlier game Gadget: Invention, Travel, & Adventure, which he said "delivered an immersive experience to the user". He described the plot of Woodcutters as follows:

Certain events have happened in a bungalow which is behind another in Los Angeles. And then suddenly the woodcutters arrive and they take the man who we think has witnessed these events, and their ship is... uh, silver, like a '30s kind of ship, and the fuel is logs. And they smoke pipes.

The game was canceled in November 1999 due to concerns that its "conundrum"–like story would be uninteresting to computer game players.

Scalebound looked kinda cool.
I was really looking forward to another drakengard-like.
Feels bad man.

Frame City Killer..
kino lost forevermore....

lost kino.jpg - 355x500, 50.85K

Both Frame City Killer and This is Vegas were games with fantastic mechanics and design that were utterly screwed from the very beginning due to being made on the Unreal Engine 3 and the devs not knowing how to use it due the engine being new.
I'll forever miss them: youtu.be/goNgskOPmeI

Oh man I JUST got done playing the first and liked it until disc 4. It's so fucking shit I'm not gonna even bother finishing it. I'll pretend I did and play 2.

I had This is Vegas pre-ordered for the longest time. I remember when it was even announced as being released through one of those "This week in xbox-esque" videos and fucking no one at Xbox even realized it was cancelled. Still makes me sad to this day.

Agartha was going to be a Dreamcast exclusive survival horror game from the creator of Alone in the Dark, the game was 50% done when it was cancelled so there's only a rudimentary alpha on what the game could've been.
Just looking at the E3 trailer the game oozes SOUL it's a shame it got canned due to the dreamcast underperforming

we could've gotten Split/Second 2 after Split/Second 1 ended on a cliffhanger

Disney cancelled the game and shut down the studio for some fucking reason

Fuck Disney, which somebody nuke them already
Making a game like that would've costed literal pennies for them

Disney is legitimately one of the most evil companies I've seen. It's a shame that the guy that was in charged for Disney video games did seem to actually enjoy helping game devs, but after he left nearly everything Disney was publishing died, Epic Mickey 2 got fucked then eventually died too.

sega-dreamcast-info-games-preservation.com/en/agartha-dreamcast-prototype-release

made by the Gadget devs

Fuck I liked that game

Ultima Online 2 looked cool too, the one where new continents appear from the past and the future. The past one would have cat people living in a giant tree and the future one would have high tech lizardmen.

You're either a Gen X boomer, an unusually cool millennial, or a hipster zoomer.

Either way, I feel as you do, but Garriot is the one that sold out, or whomever had Origin at that time.

Werewolf The Apocalypse Brawler by Capcom gets canceled

Werewolf The Apocalypse game by DreamForge (Sanitarium, Warhammer Rites of War) gets canceled, kills both the studio and publisher

youtu.be/VbAlf2X9xBs
youtu.be/bYmiwbO5icc

But the shitty Werewolf the Apocalypse Card Game doesn't get canceled

Goddamnit.

It most likely would have been shit but I'm still curious: youtu.be/hXkq1SaDW_Y

KAIO.png - 1083x1600, 3.44M

What's with EA oversimplifying games during development like Ultima and Spore?

Cancelled games are cancelled for a reason and more often than not it's because they aren't fun. If they were finished you would be bitter that the finished product was a pile of shit.

Duality, an FPS with light immersive sim elements by Double Aught, the developers of Marathon: Infinity. Could have been amazing if they got it out circa 98-99 as originally planned. The game engine used a portal-based system for level design, and levels were made even more complicated and dimension-breaking than anything in Marathon: Infinity.

Have you seen the shit that gets put out? Most of these games would be far better than what we get these days. Besides most of the games posted in this thread weren't released because the publisher went bankrupt or randomly decided to pull staff from the dev team to help on other games, not because what they had made was bad.

Just found out that a MMO based on the Manga Bastard was canceled back in 2009 due to a licensed game thread
I'm surprised I had never heard about it

It still upset me.

Prey2Box.png - 1200x1476, 2.21M

No Prey 2?

What FPS sequel to Arcanum?

The dev is still active saying that the game will come out but I've given up on it ever getting finished

Resident Evil 4 hookman demo.
Devil May Cry 4 with ugly Dante in beta Fortuna.
Overstrike before it turned into Fuse just to see how shit it would have been.

I swear this game was cancelled in my original timeline!

LAIR_PS3_ge.jpg - 600x600, 73.93K

bokosuka girls
killing bites
hinomaruko

Not him but thanks, had never heard of it. Looks really underbaked though, the "pitch" has no meaningful design at all, it's just "Imagine Arcanum... but Deus Ex! In the Half-Life 2 engine!"

die in the middle of making a PSP Vita multi-player game of Killing Bites because your mayoritarian shareholder decided to randomly pull out in the middle of their development

That's certainly a way for the SMT Nine dives to die

I don't know, everyone who played it, including the devs themselves said the game just wasn't fun because Nintendo kept forcing them to use the Wii gimmick

Gone like tears in the rain...

I assume that barely anything actually got made of this game but I wonder if we'll ever see some alpha gameplay of this. Also it's weird that Platinum Games haven't formally said it's been canceled in spite of Kamiya leaving the company.

While I liked The Darkness and Chronicles of Riddick I still wonder what these games would have been

Starbreeze.jpg - 1601x600, 206.58K

Vanguard: Saga of Heroes.

Great ideas, horrific execution and management.

Has Capcom even said what team is "working" in this game?

Captain Blood, a GoW clone that got cancelled in 2010, is getting released in 2 days.

It's kind of surprising how this game came out while everything else the devs were working on at the time git canceled which led to their damnation

Superman

Kid Icarus

Pilot Wongs

Their cancelled VR Wii addon

Rogue Squadron

Hell wasn't Lair originally supposed to be a DnD game?

I still can't believe that game is actually coming out

And I think we should extend the idea of a cancelled game to the games that came out too different. Cyberpunk 2077 is by all means a cancelled game. It was going to be a 3rd person RPG which got completely scrapped by the time Keanu was hired.
