Yes, it is. It was always really fun. I played it during launch on PC and sunk 90 hours into my first play-through. It was great.
And no, there was no "engoodening" of CP2077. They fixed some bugs, did some overhauls of the perk system, but they did not substantially change the game from how it was on release. The only major content change to the game was the expansion DLC that released 2 years later, and by that point the anime had already totally revived interest in the game and convinced people to give it a fair chance.
I'm glad Edgerunners managed to convince people the haters were wrong and give the game a fair shot. It absolutely deserved it and did not deserve the hate it got on release. Thankfully though the game now stands as an immense success story. Overcoming the negativity and bad press on top of being a huge success is just icing on the cake.

I had no expectations about it because I didn’t care about it on release and the videos I’d seen on it made out was the worst game ever made with a “decent” story at best. And then but the time I played it the 2.0 update was there and it turned out to be a really fun RPG with a cool setting characters and combat that shat all over starfield

i never played it at launch, i only just started it a month or two ago with Phantom Liberty and mods, but i feel safe saying its a masterpiece. it makes Fallout 4 and Starfield feel like a studio's best indie efforts. i constantly find myself in situations i have the utmost confidence Bethesda could not recreate in their engine. the city is beautiful and exploring it feels awesome. i only used cars for the first hundred and eighty hours, but i bought a street bike the other day and have been bewildered all over again seeing the city at 100MPH without a roof over my head blocking any of the scenery. you can knock someone unconscious with your bare hands, open the trunk of your car, throw them in the trunk, close it, then drive them to nearby police officers and drop 'em off. will they do anything or reward you? no, but it's good rp. lol
the characters and story are awesome as well. if i recommended any mods at all, it would be the one that adds gang member cars and bikes to regular traffic because it creates a lot of spontaneous encounters that make the city feel spontaneous, dangerous, and alive; and the one that hides the HUD unless your weapon is drawn.
you also get to play Detective, Enforcer, Thief, Espionage facilitator, and a few other roles through all the games' Side Missions, Cyber Psycho sightings, Gigs, and NCPD crime reports. i'm at 200 hours and still have to finish the Main Story, Expansion, and like 20-30 more assorted Gigs. i'm trying to decide tonight if i wanna keep going and 100% the game on this playthrough or if i wanna save some stuff for my next go 'round.
meant to add that this is the only real complaint i have about the game other than the way some of the weapons and clothes look, i wish more characters were romanceable. fortunately mods were able to mitigate my clothing and weapon aesthetic needs and Lizzie's Braindance mod let's me play some of the romance scenes with non-romanceable characters. it's obviously not as good as it would be to actually get texts from Evelyn or So Mi during regular gameplay like you can the actual romanceable girls, but it's a sufficient stop gap.
