Game Controllers

Whats the best videa gammin controller?
Your favourite?
Any that you hate?
I mean, obviously my opinion is objectively correct, but i am curious, but feel free to debate anyway.

I've used quite many. I liked to have back buttons so I used Mad Catz for a long time. Steam Controller was very nice for almost all things unless the game did something weird with the right stick. After the RB button broke I switched to DS5 and that's where I am now. I am looking for a controller but also kind of waiting for Valve to release one if they will.

OPs picks are retarded though. Seems like a raging boomer

genesis over saturn

NGCD over NGPC

Absolute retard OP.

my ds4 is indestructible, the micro usb is the only bad part but I never play with it plugged in anyways so it doesnt make a difference to me

Anything without Gyro support

Above 5th place

Dumbass.

Doesn't Logitech STILL use micro USB for their keyboards

Why do people pretend Sega were ever good?

Seems like a raging boomer

30somthing who recently decided to abandon consoles and go fulltime PC.
Now flooded withthe option to use whatever type of controller i want, and realizing what i want to use is just old controllers.
Yes
Yes i like my ds4's aswell, big improvement comfort wise on the old dualshocks, but are an absolute bitch to charge because of how fucked the micro connectors are, has to be positioned perfectly, slightest bump and it quits charging.
(i have used them mostly wired though, and thats why)
Gyro is for sodomites.

The Duke was the best, but I don't even want to attempt the Hyperkin shit. I'm using a Series X right now and I like it.

The Duke was the best

Was a hard call for me between that and dualshock 2 for 'best with pressure-sensitive face buttons'
dualshock won because i have more nostalgia for it and its not a giant brick.

all d-pad only controllers are inferior to an arcade stick with all the parts you prefer and I'm saying this as a fag with a OG saturn pad with a board swapped for USB. The d-pad itself is a cost saving measure used for mass produced controllers, there's no need to do such a thing if you want the best 2D experience. Series X is the best general 2 stick controller but I haven't fucked around with hall effect alternatives.

GCN is best for GCN games that utilize the analog shoulder buttons.

Everyone else aped the Xbox design afterwards for a reason. it should replace the Gamecube controller, that controller is just fucking awful to hold about as retarded as N64. Only gripe people had with 360 controller was the dpad. It was more made for with shooters in mind and action games anyhow than 2D games.

Enter pic related.

Sorry Anon Babblero looks like you will not win the tournament with your stick anymore. Enter the new era already. Most tekken pros prefer this cheating device rather than a stick today same with street fighter. Only thing an arcade stick is useful for is a charging character where you hold down the command before attacking which is good with a square gate, otherwise these ones are better for directional inputs.

genesis 3 button

no saturn 6 button

lol. lmao. holy shit what a bad meme image.

the dpad is dogshit
still a good controller besides that

Do i fucked if i played DS4 wired? I'm gonna buy DS4 since dualsense had many complaints and reliability issue

Why don't you just charge the controller from the wall outlet like a human being instead of wiring your computer with peripherals?

Charge motions are literally exactly where leverless is most superior. It feels better on stick, but the lack of travel time is a huge upside.

Nah, I feel like I've always had more success on a keyboard with D-Inputs than on a dpad because its more accurate. Charging is more simple just just jam it to the direction you want on the stick, I literally can't do that shit with any other input than a stick and especially a square gate. With a square gate I can spam that shit with ease. Probably just a timing issue or co-ordination problem but whatever.

That what they get for making fun of Keyboard players years ago

Most tekken pros

false

today same with street fighter

true

Tekken & shmups ask for accurate movements in all 8 directions while SF mostly asks for cardinals, 3 and 1. If you only need those a hitbox works well for accuracy but it's still a worse playing experience.

than a dpad

Yeah because dpads are dogshit for retards.
Funnily enough I primarily play with a keyboard and the only game I regularly play on stick I play a charge character, but it definitely is objectively better and like 5 minutes playing leverless guile in any street fighter should make that very clear.

tekken is still way more sticks and pads
street fighter or anime fighters is where you find an abundance of leverless

Shmups are the only reason to get a stick though for sure, makes them more fun for you but a nightmare for your neighbors if you live in an apartment. > CLACK CLACK CLACK CLICK CLICK CLACK. @x200apm.

Their response time is really what makes them still usable for shmups compared to d-dpad or keys and accurate direction as you said.

Pretty sure the d-pad was the biggest complaint for that thing.
I much prefer the shape of the 3-button.
Recently picked up picrel and have very much been enjoying it.
The shape of the 3, with the buttons of the 6 :)
Feels a bit flimsy tho.
In my experience yes, using it with the cable connected will eventually fuck the connector.
And if i am remembering correctly, for later model ds4 controllers they made it so they cant send signals over the usb anymore, its just a charge cable.

Dpads are still fine for Shoto characters however.

Only gripe.

learn to read, that's exactly what it meant people only didn't like the D-Pad. everything else was fine though, the newer D-Pads are pretty decent. I just don't like the sony style dpads at all and the thumbsticks are too mushy plus the newer controllers just break all the time lmao.

Feels a bit flimsy tho.

The body or something else? Old Sega controllers actually use rubber in their construction under the buttons so they're a bit mushier than modern copycats but way more durable. That's why I did a board swap on a Saturn controller because the plastic under the d-pad snapped when I was using copycats.

learn to read

My bad, i read the image but not the post.

replace the Gamecube controller, that controller is just fucking awful to hold

I ackshually find it quite coomfy, nothing like the n64

Only gripe people had with 360 controller was the dpad

I don't like that they ditched the pressure-sensitive face buttons, aswell to me a xbox controller isnt an xbox controller without the black&white buttons.
Thin plastic shell.
I actually took it apart to put lead fishing wieghts in it because i didnt like how light it was.

Thoughts on pic related? Seems like a good enough controller for that sort of thing. How's the dpad on this one?

32523525352.png - 1248x618, 220.09K

Looks interesting, though i don't hold Hori in the highest regard;
I do enjoy extra face buttons, and absolutely love hard wiring, but losing an anolog stick kinda limits it, and the d-pad looks like ass.

Could've been the perfect controller if it had another analog stick. Fucking retards.

Then people would've complained about it being built like a brickhouse, they could've probably placed thet hree extra buttons in a straight vertical line and had space that way?

Doesn't look like it would fit, without making the face buttons cramped.

I own this and place high in fightan locals. It's a good controller. Seal of approval from random Anon Babble retard :)

older iteration's dpad obliterated my friend's thumb

how?

Yeah, DS4 is the best. Been using mine for 10 years now for general PC gaming, though I recently had to replace the rubbers for the face buttons as the silicone was starting to crumble. New parts cost like $5 and was piss easy to swap so no biggie.

GEP gun

It made it very sore and tender so we had to keep ending our sessions after a few matches. Maybe the combination of his habit of pressing hard + the plastic cup style of the dpad made it dig into his thumb

only thing other controller makers should learn is that the xbox360 colored face buttons are perfect and should be emulated by other manufacturers even if they don't make them colored, I've never had any issue in any form with those.

Xbox controllers have the worst face buttons.

They never fell apart, crumbled or cut my thumb or whatever.

Just use the ext port for charging you goddamn boomer. Also the duke is the best controller, so go eat shit

Xbox 360 controller: left stick material dead

Xbox 1 controller: left stick material dead

Joycon left stick: drift

Pro controller left stick: drift (fixable, but keeps coming back)

I'm cursed with controllers.

They look like candy i want to eat them.
Though i think flat or concave buttons are more comfortable than convex.

candy.jpg - 580x495, 78.57K

Controllers were a mistake.

I should probably elaborate on what I think about the dpad:
First, the general mushiness + the xbox style circular style makes it comfy. I like to press hard and sometimes I got blisters on my thumb joint from playing fightan too long on other controllers. I also think the circular style works a lot better for fighting games than having separated directions, because to do motion inputs I'm not individually pressing directions I'm just rolling my thumb across the dpad. The hori dpad is ergonomic for this because it's rounded and concave in the middle.
Second, despite the first point seeming like it would sacrifice this, it's precise ENOUGH. I can do like 50 ewgfs and shoryukens in a row. So it's precise and comfy.
I actually don't know if I'd use this for anything else other than fightan though, I usually just pull out my 8bitdo pro 2 for other dpad heavy games.

bow to your king

hard to use in bed or on a couch

I somehow know the weight of the person who made this image.

Duke wins the most flavours of candy contest.
~170, but just really, really, coooommmfffyyyy.

candies6.jpg - 429x495, 43.09K

speaking of controllers, ss there a "modern" reproduction of the duke anywhere? i would love to have one nowadays

~170

Really? Lying on the Internet?

Best controller is the XBone's
Worst is the N64's

If you are willing to settle for just the 6 candies and pressure-sensitive face buttons aspect; then picrel exists.
I'm also 6'4" tall.
Certified lanket.

platformers feel like utter shit on an arcade stick only the unhinged play them with that.

I think the GC controller is one shoulder button away from perfection
The best triggers ever made and it's not close

Hyperkin made a version of the Duke and a duchess which is probably based more on the smaller variant. The white one for the Duke is still available it seems not sure about the rest.

It doesnt look like the duke at all
i always hear people say hyperkin are overrated af

and damn, there was a 20th anniversary duke controller? gotta check that out

They might be but they were the only ones to do an official remake of the controller. Duchess is at least relatively decently priced and it has hall effect sticks.

It doesnt look like the duke at all

I know, i'm just super gay for pressure face buttons.
It is a very rare feature.
Only the og xbox, ps2, and ps3 controllers had it. and just a handful of 3rd party ones.

6'4"

Oh the earlier wasn't kg

How many controllers can actually be overclocked? I assumed polling rate overclock would be a pretty universal thing, but I've only found it applicable to Sony controllers and partially Flydigi (wired Switch mode OCs, dongle can be OC'd which doesn't affect the controller but Vader 3 Pro xinput naturally outputs above the dongle's 500hz). Anything else I've tried can clock down, but won't go above the base value.
