No. By the middle of Act 2 I was happy with Verso. The interactions in camp help sell him as the new main character and the death helps push the plot and motivations forward for the rest of the game.
The story also works a lot better with him as the MC with the narrative they decided to go with and the focus of act 2 and 3.

The show made it a point that Rust was a pathetic, grieving man whose entire "philosophy" is just a coping mechanism over the loss of his daughter. The people who idolize him are childish faggots who didn't even watch the show.

Fire was relatively recent but Alicia's burns have fully scarred. which tends to happen in 1-3 months but she hasn't healed in any significant way aside from that

Real Renoir talks in terms of "days spent in the canvas" rather than minutes or hours.

Ofcourse there could have been a lag time between Verso's funeral and Aline discovering the painting that child Verso drew which throws Alicia's burns as an indication out of the window. But I'd wager they've been in the painting for a month to two months. Painters also seem to become suspended when they enter a painting, and their real body only becomes damaged after they spend too long inside a painting at a time rather than dehydrate within a few days like a normal person would.

I love how Sciel initially comes off as strong girl boss woman but it turns out she's actually by far the most empathetic and kind person in the party. She can easily read the situation and how people are feeling and quickly diffuse problems.
This is even better when you closely watch the ending and see how much she's trying to calm Verso before he steps through the portal. She knows his mind is in turmoil. Then at the end when she confronts him about his decision she does it with a caring outstretched hand, understanding completely.
And on top of that she was/is a loving devoted wife.

We cannot make sure of it, but you will probably find that there are repetitions among the humans of lumiere. Because Aline is the painter, and she is old and experienced, she was able to paint an entire copy of lumiere and a lot of people. Already Gustave is very similar to Verso. An outsider like another painter could probably pick up things in common due to all of them being created by the same person. This is also why at the end, Lune and Sciel are dressed like Alicia. She will inevitably make less complex and interesting characters than her mother.

This is reinforced in her ending where they start dressing and acting like her, showing that even if they had a soul they are not the same people as they once were. The irony of your statement is that the people of Lumiere only exist because of family drama in the first place. Everyone in Lumiere was drawn by Aline, which is why they are the only creations deleted by Renoir when he's able to do his yearly chroma purge.

Her loved ones aren't receiving peace, Verso is trapped watching his sister die, and the rest of the Lumiere citizens are going to die anyway, just a bit later on now.

Sadly Aline doomed Lumiere to eventual misery the second she painted them. Chroma is an innately limited resource, which Lumiere would break in half if they were actually allowed to prosper. There'd need to be some form of gommage event implemented regardless of anyone's malice which leads to it's own issues and morality.
From a player perspective it doesn't matter too much, because we aren't given a choice. But I agree within the game that yes the family's selfishness and ruining Verso's painting with their grief was morally rephrensible.

Probably some destiny altering powers or some shit, like they write what will happen and the characters are forced to follow the plotline. That's what I assume.
