ROG Ally 2

still no trackpads

lol
lmao even

Idk bro I kinda like it, looks like a GameCube controller.

If it doesn't have better battery life than its predecessor, it's worthless to me.

The Switch 2 killer has arrived!

What's with those nasty fingerprints?

seriously, unless you're the kind of person who never plays anything not 100% xinput compliant a small touch nub for basic mouse navigation should be the bare minimum

like there's always unskippable launchers, older games with controller support in-game but not for menus, etc

Why are these companies so retarded, Millions into development where they intend to sell a product to consumers and they can't make a good handheld. They actively disregard what we as the consumer wants.

Valve made the only good one and even then it's underpowered and overpriced. We should be getting 60fps minimum on triple A games. Sure you can make the argument that shit like the new oblivion remastered or unreal slop doesn't run good on any PC, so it should be disregarded but still games like elden ring can barely stay at 30fps on a deck.

800p, OLED literally all you need because a handheld screen has so much PPI and 1080p is retarded for small screen handheld. 1080p is only valid at 14" or higher.

60WH battery for longer gaming

single right trackpad like the deck

Z1 extreme processor

Then just design your buttons and shit around this, That's literally it. It's not that hard. The Ally X would've been a deck killer day one if they would've put an 800p OLED screen in it with a mouse trackpad and kept every single thing exactly the same so they could utilize the CPU and battery more efficiently, 1080p is retarded, no trackpad is retarded. Fucking retards.

Legion GO was a gimmick that failed because they are retarded.

I thought chinks were supposed to be smart?

Every single one of these designers at these companies are getting paid lazy girl salaries, they have zero passion or thought behind their handhelds.

Why can't they just make a good design? It reeks of either retarded designers, women or middle management/some boomer higher up saying they want the device to be a certain way without actually being a gamer.

Right thumbstick acts as a mouse and left click you morons. This is a non-issue.

We should be getting 60fps minimum on triple A games

You don't even get that on most console games, why do you think handhelds would ever strive for this? I swear some of you retards have unrealistic expectations and bitch just to bitch.

You suggest using a thumbstick as a mouse and call us morons?
lolll

i don't want to play strategy games with a thumbstick

We should be getting 60fps minimum on triple A games.

They need to press the 60fps button on all these handhelds. It's so easy, why are manufacturers so dumb?

Actually the Legion Go is amazing and I will steal the Go 2 on launch day.

trying their hand at the handheld game just as tarriffs hit and switch 2 is releasing

Fucking LMAO pajeetsoft.

I think you're just talking about what you personally want, you don't speak for the whole industry.
Most people who buy a PC handheld want it as a Switch substitute where they can use it both docked and handheld. I own a Deck and it's great, but docked mode is not its strong suit. 800p is fine in handheld mode, but Deck struggles when scaled to televisions/monitors because it's far too underpowered for consistent 1080p. Game streaming also has its problems because of the Deck's 16:10 pixel ratio which isn't great on TVs that are usually 16:9.
The thing which really sold the Switch 1 was that it found a sweet spot at 720p handheld/1080p docked, PC handhelds can do that but they'd rather price gouge you with useless 1600p screens and then it stops being cost-effective and most people would just prefer to buy a Switch or a PC.
Deck still reigns king, not only because of what you said but because even if it has flaws when docked the value proposition is just way better than other PC handhelds even if it's mildly overpriced (it's a niche product). ROG Ally 1's base model has dropped considerably in price lately too which makes it a decent purchase, but initially the price was just too much for a lot of people.

Ideally the perfect PC handheld would have:

touchpads

16:9 aspect ratio for seamless steam link support without black bars

enough power for 720p handheld:1080p docked

80wh battery

detachable joycons (for use as a tablet)

OLED

priced around the 400-500 mark (same as most consoles)

Can you explain to me what stops you from using 1920x1080 output from the steam deck on a 16:9 TV? There should be no reason why you'd be limited to 1280x800 output on an external display. The steam deck is literally a computer and if you're not even using the internal display which uses 16:10, then that aspect ratio means nothing to you.
I have a 5:4 and 16:10 display connected to my computer and It's not limited to either of those aspect ratios. I could add a 16:9 monitor to it and it'd work.

why is it shaped like this, it makes it look goofy

People seemm to hold steam deck just fine without weird inner curves

reere.jpg - 1072x508, 139.1K

Some designer brain probably just wanted it to look more like an xbone controller with a screen stapled to it for brand awareness.

if its actually modeled after the xbox controller do they like reuse vibrators that typically go in that part of the gamepad

Uhh. I just bought a refurbished deck. Valve isn't gonna release the deck 2 for a couple more years, right?

dont worry it wont come out during trumps bimbomancy

800p in 2025

lol
LMAO even

2027 at the earliest.

Can you explain to me what stops you from using 1920x1080 output from the steam deck on a 16:9 TV?

The poor performance for one. In terms of aesthetics, a paralleled display means that the Deck or the TV will get black bars due to a mismatch in pixel ratio. I never said you were limited to 800p, I said that anything about 800p is a bad experience. The Deck can also do 1440p if you don't mind 5fps and games looking like slideshows. What's the point of this post?

I got my Rog Ally X and I love it.

Fuck trackpad niggers, the right stick to control mouse and r1 for left click and r2 for right click is perfectly fine.

b-b-but what about strategy games

I connect it to my dock and use a keyboard and mouse on a 1080p 120Hz display so I get the same performancce in handheld or docked.
It really is the best PC handheld right now.

probably after udna2 so 2030

They said somewhere around 2026 to 2027 is when we should expect any sort of movement on it. They were primarily waiting to have a decent leap in power and quality with the device and we've already seen with the various handheld PCs coming out now and even the Switch 2 that within a year or two that'll probably be in the ballpark they're waiting for.

I truly hope it has a 1080p screen though, I understand why they went for 800p on the first one but it's what keeps me away from getting the first revision.

do people really think companies are going to plan out a product release so they can shit out something with trumps taxes on top for the americas

What is this dumb shit. If you're playing docked on TV you don't need the built in display to even be on. You also said this in relation to game streaming which implies you wouldn't even be using the Steam Deck to render at 1080, you'd be streaming from much stronger hardware. Performance wouldn't be an issue. Pretty sure you could even stream at 4k if you hardware is good enough.

I don't get it. I could ask the same question from you - you say a lot of shit but it makes no sense when you actually try to interpret it as a whole instead of separate words that have no relation to each other.

Is the resolution on the deck really that bad? I thought it'd be fine because it's a small screen and you're right in front of it

thumbstick mouse

rogjeets proved to be absolute retards

The resolution is fine on the built in display. Would make negligible difference to me if it was 1080p, in fact I'd probably not like it because the downsides of higher resolution are pretty bad.

but you get an extra, extra-big asscrate button

800p sucks dude.
1080p should be the minimum.

Everyone is betting on them being heavily walked back within the year including all of our allies so in the best scenario they won't matter, and in the worst scenario they'll likely work around it but it'll cost like $500-600.

Is the resolution on the deck really that bad?

No, it's fine for it as a handheld. It's more that 800p is a bit of an odd resolution for basically everything you want to play so you always have to make some minor visual concession for it be it black bars, weird UI scaling, weird text scaling, weird effect scaling, etc. It's nothing crazy important but I would prefer to at least have a 1080p screen because everything is built for that specific standard and everything but the Steam Deck and original Switch released at that resolution or higher.

you wouldn't even be using the Steam Deck to render at 1080, you'd be streaming from much stronger hardware

Not for people who don't have a PC or any stronger hardware to begin with.

It's an ally 2 with xbox buttons. Microsoft probably didn't have much to do with it than paying for an edition

I thought chinks were supposed to be smart?

who told you that?

What is this dumb shit. If you're playing docked on TV you don't need the built in display to even be on

What if you wanted to mirror the display?

1080p sucks too, because it's a bad aspect ratio. 1920x1200 would be ok but the downsides are still the same as 1080p and I wouldn't want that unless they had a way to make the downsides negligible through specialized up-scaling asic.

This going to be like 800 to 900 bucks. Not worth.

I don't see how that would help you achieve anything. Having 2 screens displaying different stuff maybe, but mirrored is just retarded.

it's a bad aspect ratio

Fuck off is it.
It's 16:9 which is the standard and most commonly used everywhere.
16:10 freaks get the rope.

I don't see how that would help you achieve anything

Would be extremely useful for remote desktop usage or video editing work that requires identical displays.

Just because it's common doesn't mean it's good. The only reason it's so popular in the first place is because it makes displays cheaper to manufacture and every manufacturer wants to make cheap shit. A 24 inch 1920x1200 display is way more expensive to make than a 24 inch 1920x1080 display.

Did you know that a while ago shit-tier 6 bit TN panels were really common? Almost everyone used them. Now a days at least most people use 8 bit IPS panels from the QC fail bin, so technology has advanced a bit.

Just because it's common doesn't mean it's good

In this case yes it does because everyone designs their UI, fonts, and experience around this specific resolution. 1920x1200 is one of those "off" resolutions that's going to introduce some sort of issues like 800p does.

I've never used any resolutions other than 4:3, 5:4 and 16:10 and I've never had any issues with UI, fonts, experiences or whatever else you want to bring up. The worst case scenario that's even possible is having to play a game at lower resolution than my monitor supports.

looks like a madcatz controller
